NBC’s Brian Williams Blasts Trump Backside Smoocher Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Over Safe Dogs Act Veto

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NBC / Getty NBC News host Brian Williams has largely portrayed himself as a stern and sometimes serious journalist but has shown flashes of having more edge than previously assumed. During his nightly news program, Williams had choice words for Donald Trump supporter, Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, this after the state leader vetoed a bill that would protect dogs from mistreatment. In the closing segment of a Wednesday night (June 23) airing of The 11th Hour with Brian Williams, the host opened with a straightforward rundown of Gov. Abbott’s deep alignment with the so-called “Trumper Republican” mindset which included the state’s controversial open-carry law, and Abbott’s support of new restrictive voting laws widely supported by Republicans and conservatives...

Nigeria Govt is asking House of Reps to amend the NBC Act and include “internet broadcasting”. That...

Facebook hit with campaign by pro-Palestinian activists leaving 1-star app store ratings

A social media campaign by pro-Palestine activists has pushed down the ranking for Facebook’s app in Apple and Google’s app stores, NBC News reported. The activists are seeking to protest Facebook’s alleged censorship of Palestinian accounts on its platform, and are instructing people to leave Facebook’s app a one-star review. According to NBC News, Facebook is treating the situation as a high-priority issue internally; one software engineer wrote in a post on an internal Facebook message board that “users are upset with our handling of the situation,” adding that the users “have started protesting by leaving 1-star reviews.” Facebook has reached out to have the reviews removed, but so far, Apple has declined the request to remove the reviews. It’s not clear how or if Google responded to t...

US Supreme Court bars New York from imposing attendance limit on houses of worship

The US Supreme Court has barred New York from imposing coronavirus restrictions on houses of worship in a ruling likely to be heralded by conservatives as a victory for religious freedoms. Services should not be treated differently from permitted secular gatherings, said the unsigned ruling, one of the first since the appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett tipped the court’s balance to the conservatives. Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York state, had ordered that only up to 10 people could gather at sites of worship in high-risk areas designated “red zones”. The court was responding to two applications — from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as two synagogues — claiming they were singled out under the restrictions designed to limit the contagion’s spread in hard-hit New Yor...

Hollywood-backed Quibi to shutter six months after launch

Streaming service Quibi said on Wednesday it intends to wind down its operations and start a process to sell its assets, just six months after its launch. The announcement highlights the dominance that Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+ hold over smaller streaming service providers, which struggle to keep up against their large content budgets and vast libraries of shows. “The world has changed dramatically since Quibi launched and our standalone business model is no longer viable,” founder Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a statement. Los Angeles-based Quibi offers entertainment and news in episodes of 10 minutes or less on mobile phones, initially promoted for on-the-go viewing. The service was priced at $5 a month with advertisements, or $8 a month without them. “Our failure...

Ransomware reportedly to blame for outage at US hospital chain

Health care provider Universal Health Services, one of the largest chains in the US, has been hit by an apparent ransomware attack, TechCrunch reported. UHS facilities in California, Florida, North Dakota, Arizona, and other locations began noticing problems early Sunday, with some locations reporting locked computers and phone systems. Some UHS hospitals had to use pen and paper to file patient information as a result, according to NBC News. The hospital system, which has more than 400 locations in the US and the UK, said in a statement on Monday that its IT network across several facilities was offline “due to an IT security issue.” No patient or employee data appears to have been compromised, according to the statement, which did not mention malware or ransomware. “We implement extensiv...
