Nigeria to begin business sample census October 12

The statistician General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale, announced this on Monday while delivering a keynote address at the Training of Trainers for the National Business Sample Census (NBSC) 2020 in Abuja. Kale said the information emanating from the census activity would be primarily useful in understanding the nature and structure of the economy, as well as providing a sound business frame for the conduct of economic surveys in the country. NBS solicits Nigerians’ support on survey on children, women

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has appealed to the general public to support its survey on the situation of women and children it is conducting, is brought to “ a successful end”. Mr Sunday Ichedi, the Head, Public Affairs and International Relations Unit, NBS made the appeal on Wednesday in a statement. Ichedi said that Nigeria had formally started the process of conducting the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS6)/National Immunisation Coverage Survey (NICS) with a virtual inaugural meeting of the National Steering Committee. NBS: ICT sector contributes 17.83% to nation’s economy

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), on Monday released Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), report for in the second quarter of 2020 (Q2 2020), showing 17.83 per cent contribution by the Information, Communication and Technology sector. A statement signed by Dr Femi Adeluyi, Technical Assistant, Information Technology, said the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, expressed delight to hear of the growth of Information Communications Technology’s (ICT) contribution to Nigeria’s GDP. According to the NBS, Nigeria’s GDP decreased by minus six to10 per cent, year-on-year, in real terms in the second quarter of 2020. Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has vowed never to allow a cultist to succeed him in 2023 so as not to plunge the State back into violence. Emmanuel has said he is not interested in a third term arrangement through surrogacy. Nigeria declares telecoms facilities critical national Infrastructure

In response to the yearnings of industry stakeholders to declare telecom facilities Critical National Infrastructure, President Muhammadu Buhari, has finally approved and also directed that necessary physical protective measures be put in place to safeguard telecommunications infrastructure deployed across the country. NBS: Inflation rises to 12.34 percent in April

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation, increased by 12.34 per cent year-on-year in April 2020. The NBS made this known in its latest CPI and Inflation Report for the month of April released on Thursday. It stated that this figure showed 0.08 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in March 2020 which was 12.26 percent. It explained that month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 1.02 per cent in April 2020 and this was 0.18 per cent rate higher than the rate recorded in March 2020 which was 0.84 per cent.
