Netflix has canceled Steve Carell’s comedy series Space Force after two seasons, as first reported by Deadline. The decision comes just two months after Season 2 debuted on February 18th. Reuniting Carell with The Office creator Greg Daniels, Space Force also starred John Malkovich and Ben Schwartz. Space Force was a workplace comedy centering around a group of people tasked with establishing the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, which was formed under President Trump and continued under the new administration. After an uneven first season, Space Force was retooled by Daniels and Carell to be more like The Office with promising results. In our review of Season 2, Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller described how the changes improved the sho...

With each season of Netflix’s “Selling Sunset,” the cast’s wardrobes grow bolder and more memorable. While Christine Quinn worked with stylist Kat Gosik on her over-the-top looks for season five, Emma Hernan collaborated with creative consultant Kendall Finzer for her wardrobe of thigh-high slits and monochrome suit sets. Chelsea Lazkani is the newest agent to the Oppenheim group, telling POPSUGAR that she puts together all her own looks for filming, and aims to stand out from the rest of the crew. “When you’re on a cast with a number of ...

Netflix has reported a loss of 200,000 subscribers so far this year — the first time the customer base has declined in 11 years. As Bloomberg reports, the bleeding may have only begun. In an earnings report, Netflix said it expects to lose an additional two million subscribers in the second quarter of 2022. This is despite the fact that Netflix signed up an additional one million new users in Africa during the first quarter. Those gains were offset by losses across the rest of the globe, especially in the US and Canada, where 600,000 people cut their service after a price hike, and in Russia, where the company lost another 700,000 subscribers after ceasing operations in response to the invasion of Ukraine. For those times when a single thumbs up just doesn’t cut it, Netflix now has you covered. The streamer has begun rolling out a new two thumbs up rating option, allowing users to indicate the movies and TV shows they really love. As Netflix tells it, the new two thumbs up feature — which winks at the trademark “two thumbs up” seal of approval from movie critic duo Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert — will give them even more insight into user preferences, further refining their content recommendations. Beginning this week, Netflix subscribers will start seeing the two thumbs up option alongside the existing thumbs up and thumbs down buttons. Two thumbs up will send a stronger signal to Netflix’s recommendation algorithm than just one. For example, if you give Squid Game two thumbs up, you can...
Image sourced from Pixabay Broadcasters, content creators, and online streaming service platforms in Kenya will start classifying content under new regulations meant to keep up with increased production. According to Business Daily, commercial TVs and radios will review 70 percent of the content aired for age appropriateness to show if it’s good for watching from a certain age, with the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) reviewing the other 30 percent. This will target pre-recorded shows like movies, advertisements, and telenovelas. Netflix, Showmax, and Amazon will also review 70 percent of their movies and add KFCB’s age-appropriate symbols. “Classification of one-day content can take one week and we are not able to keep up. So the involvement of the industry is to ensure complia...
Nancy Meyers, one of the sharpest comedic voices of her generation, will return after a long hiatus to direct a new movie for Netflix. Meyers’ last film was 2015’s The Intern, which earned over five times its $35 million budget despite middling reviews (59% on Rotten Tomatoes). But the flick has a large and devoted fanbase that counts among its numbers Quentin Tarantino, who said it deserved an Oscar. Now, via The Hollywood Reporter, a 72-year-old Meyers is back to write, direct, and executive produce a new movie, though the title and plot details are being kept a secret. For decades Meyers reigned as the queen of the mid-budget comedy, having scripted such hits as Private Benjamin and The Father of the Bride before making her directorial debut with The Parent Trap...
Netflix isn’t big on fan service these days (A $16 standard plan? Charging a fee for sharing passwords?), but thanks to Pete Davidson, the streamer has done one thing right. After the comedian took to Saturday Night Live to bemoan the epic-length movies dominating the industry today, Netflix made Davidson’s dreams of a “Short-Ass Movies” section a reality. “These days, when I sit down to watch a movie, I can find just about anything in the world,” Davidson says to open his musical sketch. “But night after night, there’s only one kind of movie I’m always looking for, and that’s a short ass movie.” The comedian then goes into a rap with Chris Redd about how his short attention span requires a film that’s “like, at most, an hour-forty,” and even starts listing examples. Naturally, musica...
