Netflix Unveils Trailer for Upcoming Film Metal Lords: Watch

Netflix has offered up the first trailer for Metal Lords, the upcoming film written by Game of Thrones showrunner D.B. Weiss and directed by Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist). The film is about two metalheads who happen to be the only headbangers at their high school. As the two try to start a band, the only viable candidate for a bassist is a girl who plays cello. The trio must work together if they’re going to win the all-important Battle of the Bands. The trailer depicts a far more lighthearted coming-of-age story as opposed to say, Lords of Chaos. However, Metal Lords still boasts a hardcore heavy metal pedigree. Just in the trailer we see references to cred-establishing bands like Celtic Frost, Manowar, Anthrax, and more. Marvel’s Netflix Series Coming to Disney+ Under New Parental Controls

When news broke in February that Netflix’s live-action Marvel series would be moving to Disney+, one major concern was how the House of Mouse would handle the decidedly non-PG content of The Defenders franchise. Today (March 1st) Disney has answered that question by announcing a new update to parental controls that will go into effect when the shows hit the streamer on March 16th. When subscribers open Disney+ for the first time on or after March 16th, they will be offered the granular ability to select content ratings restrictions and create a PIN for each profile. According to a press release, any profile without the parental controls in place “will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment.” IMDb lists Daredevil, Jessica Jones...

In Defiance of Russian Law, Netflix Refuses to Carry Propaganda

Netflix will ignore a Russian law, expected to go into effect March 1st, that requires media platforms to carry state propaganda channels. In a statement to Deadline, the streaming platform referenced the invasion of Ukraine, stating, “Given the current situation, we have no plans to add these channels to our service.” Netflix introduced a local-language service to Russia a little more than a year ago. As an “audiovisual service” with more than 100,000 users, it falls under the jurisdiction of Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor. It would be obligated to avoid promoting “extremism,” whatever that means, while carrying Channel One, the entertainment network NTV, and a Russian Orthodox Church channel. Given Russia’s ongoing military campaign in Ukraine, it’s unclear if the media law wi...
