HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Lester Cohen / Courtesy of Netflix Dave Chappelle has finally addressed the controversy stirred up by his jokes in his latest Netflix comedy special The Closer and reiterated his desire to meet with members of the community – with a couple of conditions. The five-minute Instagram clip features the comedian addressing the furor, which led LGBTQ+ employees and allies at Netflix to stage a walkout in protest of what they considered transphobic hate speech by the comedian and CEO Ted Sarandos’ initial handling of the situation. “It’s been said in the press that I was invited to speak to the transgender employees at Netflix, and I refused. That is not true,” Chappelle said at the outset in front of a live audience at a show of his reportedly taped in Louisvill...

Takin’ It Too Deep

Christian Slater and Lizzy caplan team up to voice the brilliant (unhinged) father and (on-the-edge) daughter Rand and Reagan Ridley, pivotal to running America’s shadow government, in Netflix’s new animated adult comedy, Inside Job.  The wild show is, at its heart, an office and family comedy. It focuses on Reagan’s work life, leading a team at Cognito Inc. that creates conspiracies and president-replacing robots (ROBOTUS), and her dysfunctional relationship at home with her father (who was forced out of the company, and now threatens the organization’s very existence by vlogging on YouTube).  Slater, 52, and Caplan, 39, spoke with SPIN about getting into the headspace of mad geniuses behind the running of the greatest superpower in the world, and tackling all sorts of conspirac...

At some point, when everyone is open, I’m sure the communities will come together.” This news comes after a few dozen LGBTQ+ employees, angered by the comedian’s comments about the LGBTQ+ community and trans people in particular in The Closer, staged a walkout in protest over the special and the streaming giant...

Netflix CEO Admits He ‘Screwed Up’ With His Dismissive Response Dave Chappelle Criticism

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Lester Cohen / Courtesy of Netflix No matter how one feels about comedy icon Dave Chappelle and his latest Netflix stand-up special The Closer, there’s one thing objective people should be able to agree on from both a business and human standpoint: The response to the backlash by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was trash. As previously reported, when viewers called The Closer out for transphobic and otherwise derogatory remarks made by Chappelle, and many were demanding the special be pulled from the platform, Sarandos sent out an internal memo to Netflix employees stating that “We don’t allow titles (on) Netflix that are designed to incite hate or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line.” Related Stories “I recognize, however, t...

Netflix CEO: Dave Chappelle’s Trans Comments Don’t “Translate to Real-World Harm”

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has issued a new internal memo defending the streamer’s decision to stand behind Dave Chappelle amid the growing controversy over his latest special, The Closer.
