Netflix is fond of asking if you’re still watching, but during the pandemic the question has become, are they still filming? To keep things healthy and humming along, the streaming giant has announced that it will require COVID-19 vaccines for all cast and crew members in the United States who work in close proximity to a set. Pandemic-related pauses can be incredibly expensive. Just recently, positive COVID tests temporarily delayed blockbuster productions like Mission Impossible 7 and the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and while we don’t have estimates for how much that cost, the production company behind Apple TV+’s The Morning Show recently sued their insurance company to recoup $44 million lost just waiting around. Besides that, mandato...
“Netflix, I choose you!” As Variety reports, The Pokémon Company has struck a deal with Netflix to develop a new live-action series along the lines of… gulp… Pokémon Detective Pikachu. The show is in the early stages of development. While few details are known, this adaptation of the beloved video game/card game/anime empire will be helmed by Joe Henderson, who is currently the co-showrunner of the Netflix series Lucifer. Both Netflix and Pokémon have somewhat dubious histories of live-action adaptations. Pokémon Detective Pikachu had enough manic energy to satisfy kids in the audience, but the plot pacing could be frustrating for adults, and it failed to measure up to the likes of Pixar and Marvel in appealing to all ages. “I have the power!” Netflix has unveiled the first full-length trailer for its upcoming animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The clip reintroduces fans to the world of Eternia, which is slowly losing its magic long after the events of the 1980s series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. “I built a life of truth, away from magic. Now you want me to save magic?” Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Teela, captain of Eternia’s royal guard, demands as she angrily tosses her tiara-like helmet to the ground. The answer to Teela’s query appears to be ‘yes,’ as she joins forces once again with Prince Adam (voiced by The Vampire Diaries’ Chris Wood) to protect their planet from Mark Hamill’s villainous Skeletor. “Whatever became of Eternia, we’ll face it. Together. No one else dies,” the pri...
Netflix has unveiled a first look at its upcoming action movie Beckett, and the tense teaser is soundtracked by a brand-new song by Blood Orange. Starring John David Washington, the thriller tells the story of an American tourist in Greece who becomes the center of a dark political conspiracy after his girlfriend mysteriously disappears. As the couple’s car careens over a cliff and Washington’s Beckett wakes up in a hospital with more questions than answers, the atmospheric track “Born to Be” plays on top of the clip. “Not a soul will take my breath,” Blood Orange croons as the Greek police turn on Beckett and he finds himself on the run for his life. A figure at the American embassy says, “I know you’re scared, I get it. But you don’t have the whole picture,” leading Beckett to ask, “Then...
Have you heard the one by Jerry Seinfeld about the invention of the Pop-Tart? If not, you’re in luck because the comedian has inked a deal with Netflix to turn his stand-up joke about the iconic breakfast pastry into a full-blown movie. The Seinfeld co-creator will star in Unfrosted, the streamer’s upcoming film about the creation of Pop-Tarts. He’s also slated to both direct and write the deliciously bonkers project. In a statement to Deadline, Seinfeld revealed that the impetus of the movie came to him in the midst of quarantining. “Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness,” he said. “So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.” T...
