Underground rap king Pharoahe Monch has formed the new group th1rt3en with guitarist Marcus Machado and drummer Daru Jones. Their first album, A Magnificent Day for an Exorcism, arrives January 22nd, and the trio has offered a preview with “Fight” featuring Cypress Hill. Monch has been a favorite of hip-hop heads since the 1990s, when his machine-gun flows bolstered the duo Organized Konfusion. Now, he’s joined forces with Machado, a former child prodigy who’s performed with Anderson .Paak and Pete Rock, as well as Jones, who’s handled drums for Jack White. Together, they specialize in a fusion of rap and rock, with Machado’s guitars providing a searing counterpoint to Monch’s lyrical assaults. In “Fight”, they use those sounds to face down the epidemic of police brutality. It opens ...
Teenage Fanclub have announced a new album called Endless Arcade. Their first full-length since 2016 is due for arrival next year on March 5th. The forthcoming LP follows Here and marks the Scottish group’s first since the 2018 departure of founding member and bassist Gerard Love. In a statement about the project and its name, the band’s Raymond McGinley said, “I think of an endless arcade as a city that you can wander through, with a sense of mystery, an imaginary one that goes on forever.” He continued, “When it came to choosing an album title, it seemed to have something for this collection of songs.” Altogether there are 12 tracks on this new collection, including lead single “Home”. A jangly tune full of longing, it finds the veteran alt-rockers wondering if they’ll ever find comfort ...
Alice Cooper has announced that he will release a new album, titled Detroit Stories, early next year. The legendary shock rocker’s latest LP will arrive on February 26th, with the first single, a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll”, set to be unveiled this Friday (November 13th). As the title implies, the new album pays tribute to Cooper’s hometown of Detroit. The singer points to the beginning of his career in the late ’60s and early ’70s as inspiration for the new LP. “Detroit was Heavy Rock central then,” explained Cooper in a press release. “You’d play the Eastown and it would be Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the Stooges and the Who, for $4! The next weekend at the Grande it was MC5, Brownsville Station and Fleetwood Mac, or Savoy Brown or the Small Faces. You couldn’t be a s...

Neil Young has finally shared the details for the 50th anniversary edition of his seminal album After the Gold Rush. The deluxe vinyl box set edition comes with special artwork, a litho print of its cover, and a 7-inch picture sleeve of both versions of “Wonderin’”. The first was recorded in 1970 and originally released in The Archives Vol. 1:...
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Goodie Mob have announced a kind of Dungeon Family reunion. Their new album Survival Kit drops November 13th, and will feature guest verses from old collaborators André 3000, Big Boi, and Big Rube, as well as the legend Chuck D. Production was handled by the Family crew Organized Noize. If the four members of Goodie Mob, the three producers in Organized Noize, the two representatives of OutKast, and Rube did come together at a Thanksgiving feast, their roles would be clear: André 3000 and Big Boi are the brothers who don’t talk anymore; Khujo and T-Mo are cousins who’re closer than brothers; Organized Noize cook and carve the turkey; Big Rube delivers the blessing; Big Gipp loudly says, “Their eyes are red!” after you and your cousin come back from a wal...
