We all know Fred again.. is a gifted music producer. But it’s actually his humanity which is his greatest weapon. After being starved for connection throughout the isolation of the pandemic, our hunger for genuine bonds is ravenous. And no one is able to cultivate them with their music quite like Fred, a master of unfiltered storytelling whose new album, Actual Life 3, is a reminder to imbue color in life’s grey moments. AL3 is a microcosm of Fred’s profound ability to turn life’s happenstances into visceral dance music. Interpolating samples from real-life encounters, transcendent songwriting sessions and even random videos sent by friends, the album is a collage of the mementos he’s collected during his breakthrough year. We’ve pulled the yar...

Ellie Goulding is healing from the scars of the pandemic with a return to dance music. The chart-topping songstress announced her vision for her fifth studio album back in early 2021, but now, Higher Than Heaven has an official release date slated for early 2023. In a 2021 interview on “The Joe Wicks Podcast,” Goulding outlined her original vision for her upcoming LP and explained that writing in the album’s early stages was progressing seamlessly. “I spent a lot of time by myself, quite introspective. I had a backlog of things I wanted to write about,” Goulding said at the time. “It was quite deep and emotional. And this album is the opposite of that. I found this dream team of writers, who just for some reason, without even having to talk ab...
Despite tearing up stages across the world for over a decade, Seven Lions has only just begun to show his final form. Known as the godfather of melodic bass music, Lions has achieved world renown and even earned a kingmaker’s reputation for his work in developing artists through his flagship imprint, Ophelia Records. He’d done it all without even releasing an album, but that all changes with Beyond The Veil. Lions’ debut album sees him firing on all cylinders with seemingly greater conviction than ever before. “The best thing about working with Jeff is his consistent commitment to forging his own path,” Lions’ manager, Stan Shkrobor, said in the artist’s monumental 10-year anniversary documentary. That commitment is on full display in this hero̵...
Revered experimental bass music duo Ivy Lab have released their third studio album, Infinite Falling Ground. Spanning 14 tracks, Infinite Falling Ground is a tour de force for Ivy Lab, whose reimagined sound is explored through haunting, deeply introspective production. Coming nearly five years since Death Don’t Always Taste Good, the album finds the pair journeying through eclectic concepts and sounds, making for their most entrancing work yet. The album’s opener, “Celeste” serenades us into a hazy, lo-fi vibe. It doesn’t last long though, as tracks like “Balaclava” and “Q Nix” conjure haunting, melancholic bass and hollowed sound design. Wrapped in dusty hip-hop cloaks and swathed in downtempo electronica, “Our Time” and “Late Night Fit” will hit home for fans of Ivy Lab....

Capricorns: limitless in resilience, relentless against adversity and steep in emotional depth. TSHA taps into the heart, soul and spirit of her astrological sun sign on her debut album, Capricorn Sun, a swelling stunner out now via Ninja Tune. The 13-track LP is mountain-moving at its best, and consistent in the punch of its hooks. And while the power of TSHA’s free-flowing arrangements may take a moment to hit their stride, her work is of the breed that transforms on the dancefloor. Take the slow-building rapture of “Dancing in the Shadows” (with Clementine Douglas), for example. Ecstasy bubbles under the surface of orchestral chords and Douglas’ impassioned flows. It’s easy to imagine TSHA, who was named one of EDM.com‘s best music producers in ...
