Syd Returns with First Solo Song in Nearly Four Years “Missing Out”: Stream

Over three years following her Always Never Home EP, Syd has returned with a new solo song called “Missing Out”. With a dark wave of synths and a slowly crunching beat, The Internet member delivers the perfect self-actualizing anti-Valentine’s Day ballad. “As far as I can see, you and me could never be/ ‘Cause we didn’t spend the proper time tryna work it out,” Syd sings. “Hope you findin’ what you need or what you seek ’cause now I’m free.” Stream “Missing Out” below. In addition to it being nearly four years since Always Never Home and its preceding LP Fin, it’s been two and a half since The Internet dropped Hive Mind. That doesn’t mean Syd’s been silent until “Missing Out”, though; over the last year or so, she’s collaborated with The Free Nationals, Disclosure, Zayn, Lil Uzi Vert, and ...

Kings of Leon Share New Song “Echoing”: Stream

Kings of Leon are in the process of rolling out their first album in five years, When You See Yourself. The full record arrives next month, but today they’re giving fans another taste of what’s to come with a new song called “Echoing”. Last month, the Nashville-bred band announced their first full-length since 2016’s WALLS by sharing two promising singles, “The Bandit” and “100,000 People”. The former was a brisk and rattling rocker in the vein of their 2008 mega-hit “Sex On Fire”, while “100,000 People” was took more of a slow-burning ballad route that still featured a satisfying build. “Echoing”, which is the second-to-last song on the tracklist, falls somewhere in the middle between those two sounds. It begins with a tense and lively drum beat that revs in the background the whole time ...

Cherry Glazerr Release New Song “Big Bang”: Stream

Cherry Glazerr have returned with a new song called “Big Bang”. For this one, the Los Angeles garage-rock band continue to move in the poppier direction that their last couple singles have hinted at. During Cherry Glazerr’s breakout years in the mid-2010s, the band, led by frontwoman Clementine Creevy, were standouts in the West Coast garage and surf revival. Their 2014 album Haxel Princess helped define that era, but 2017’s Apocalypstick and 2019’s Stuffed & Ready saw the band develop into a bigger, fuller rock sound akin to groups like White Reaper and Bleached. Then, at the end of 2019, the group collaborated with their former tourmates Portugal. The Man on a track called “Call Me” that had a much sleeker sound. After a year of radio silence, they dropped a ...

We’re days away from Super Monster, the highly-anticipated debut album from Claud. Now, the first artist signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label has gifted fans with one final peek behind the curtain with a new song called “Guard Down”. Co-written with Cameron Hale and Mary Weitz, the song kicks off with an eclectic drum riff that sets the stage for whimsy and fun. Claud unveils another catchy melody, using the sunny topline as a Trojan Horse for a tale of unrequited love. “Don’t let your guard down,” they sing over and over again, “Don’t let your guard down.” In a statement, Claud explained the emotions behind the song, writing, “I have the hardest time opening up and letting my guard down. When I wrote this song, I had just found out somebody I had ...

Ora The Molecule Announces Debut Album Human Safari, Shares “Creator”: Stream

Norwegian avant-pop artist Ora The Molecule has signed to Mute Records and announced her debut album Human Safari. To pair with the news, she’s shared its elastic lead single, “Creator”. Ora The Molecule is the project of the Oslo, Norway-born songwriter Nora Schjelderup, who started putting out music under this name back in 2018. In 2019, she released a great EP called Sugar that sonically landed somewhere between The Eurythmics, Austra, and Jessie Ware. Throughout the rest of 2019, she dribbled out singles that were in the same vein of sleek, icy, slightly strange dance-pop, and clearly she resonated with a wider audience. According to a press release, the 12-track Human Safari was informed by Schjelderup taking the opportunity to really examine the world around her. ...

Andrew Bird and Jimbo Mathus Unveil New Song “Poor Lost Souls”: Stream

Andrew Bird and Jimbo Mathus wish blessings on Los Angeles’ homeless population on their new song “Poor Lost Souls”. The former Squirrel Nut Zippers bandmates have remained friends since parting ways in the ’90s, and Bird even joined SNZ for “Train on Fire” from their 2020 album Lost Songs of Doc Souchon. Now, the two songwriters are fulfilling a longtime ambition and collaborating on an album, These 13, which contains a baker’s dozen of folksy new tracks. The latest, “Poor Lost Souls”, takes place in LA, where, as the lyrics have it, you can “Look down and see the stars/ Look up and see the gold/ Look around and see these poor lost souls.” Mathus keeps up a steady groove of guitar, while Bird adds fiddle accents. The song highlights the absurdity of abundance surrounding need, w...

Lars Ulrich’s Father Has Released a New Album at Age 92

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich’s father, Torben Ulrich, has released a new album at age 92. The spoken-word collaboration with cellist Lori Goldston is titled Oakland moments: cello, voice, reuniting (rejoicing) and arrived on Bandcamp and limited cassette tape on February 5th. The album features Torben reciting text and poetry over Goldston’s cello. If that triggers a Lulu flashback, don’t worry: Goldston’s playing quite pleasant, and Torben’s narration has a relaxing ASMR vibe to it. Lars took to Instagram to congratulate his father: “92 years old and just getting started…Today, as one does at his age, he’s putting out another record… This one being a collaboration with his dear friend @legoldston.” The fact that Torben is releasing new music at age 92 shouldn’t be too surprising. He’s ma...

Eyehategod Unleash New Song “Built Beneath the Lies”: Stream

Eyehategod have shared a new single, “Built Beneath the Lies”, from their highly anticipated album, A History of Nomadic Behavior, out March 12th. With each new single, the NOLA vets have offered another catchy slice of grooving sludge metal. “Built Beneath the Lies” is driven by a fuzzy riff and has a more hectic punk approach — the aural backdrop for some seriously filthy vocals from Mike IX Williams. “’Built Beneath the Lies’ is another acidic Eyehategod song playing in the background while the back alleys burn with nervous alcoholic tension and people all over cancel their summer plans to stare at the wall,” Williams said of the track in his typically sardonic manner. Williams’ vocals are placed high in the mix, giving added emphasis to the lyrics. Once again, the words and title ...

Conway the Machine is still putting the final touches on God Don’t Make Mistakes, his debut album on Shady Records, but he’s got another release to keep fans occupied in the meantime: If It Bleeds It Can Be Killed, a joint LP with producer Big Ghost LTD. Today’s new effort marks a reunion for the two hip-hop acts, who previously linked up on last year’s well received No One Mourns the Wicked. Conway, Big Ghost LTD, and fellow Griselda regular Westside Gunn also put out a collaborative project in 2015 called Griselda Ghost. There are 10 tracks in all on If It Bleeds. Many feature soulful, almost Motown-esque production (“J Batters” and “Highly Praised”), while others like “Toast” couple heavy artillery sounds with fuzzy funk. There’s also “Red Beams”, which fills every conceivable spac...
