Rising Vancouver-based artist JARETT has arrived with his debut single “TRAVEL.” The dancehall-inspired track comes at the perfect time, as the weather is warming and live events are slowly returning. The groovy “TRAVEL,” written and performed by the blossoming JARETT and produced by Diamond Style, draws influence from the infectious Caribbean stylings of Major Lazer and Sean Paul. The electronic-pop crossover features an intoxicating vocal performance that would flourish at both a beach party and in a nightclub. Diamond Style balances the dancehall beat with rhythmic hip-hop elements and alchemizes them into a radio-friendly production. JARETT’s upbringing has had a direct effect on his musical journey. He was raised in Toronto with a Bajan fa...
It’s hard to imagine (at least for some of us) that 2001 was 20 years ago. That’s good news for music fans since it means a ton of great music has and will be released with a deluxe reissue. The latest from that batch is the Avalanches’ highly influential debut album Since I Left You [it was released in their native Australia in November 2000]. No one quite used samples like the Avalanches did on Since I Left You and became a blueprint for emerging genres years after its original release. Thus, it makes perfect sense that there’d be material that had yet to be heard from the original sessions from the turn of the century. That album is set to be reissued on June 4 via Astralwerks and will feature a number of audial goodies, including fresh mixes from such artists as the...
As the safe return of music festivals becomes more and more of a reality, bass music fans are dusting off their neck braces. Ergo, head-bangers rejoiced today after two of dubstep’s most popular artists released one of the genre’s most anticipated collaborations in recent memory. Subtronics and Excision have finally unveiled “Bunker Buster,” a long-awaited song that was debuted back in December 2019 during the former’s performance at HiJinx. Teeth-chattering bass ripples through each of the single’s three unique drops, which contain signature elements of both producers’ styles. However, fans shouldn’t simply fast-forward to the loudest part of the waveform. The verses of “Bunker Buster” are jaw-dropping, kicking off with beautiful...
Twenty One Pilots have been quiet for the better part of the past few years, with the release of the pandemic-inspired “Level of Concern” and their holiday single “Christmas Saves the Year” being the exceptions. Now, the duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun are officially back. The Ohio-based band will release Scaled And Icy, their sixth studio album, on May 21 via Fueled by Ramen. The release will coincide with a livestream where they’ll debut songs from the album. You can grab tickets for that event, which kicks off at 8 pm EST, here. Scaled And Icy was written and produced by Joseph as he was hunkered down at his home studio in isolation. The themes of the record assess the chaos that was 2020, with Joseph tackling anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and doubt in his lyrics. D...
The latest reimagining of a Paul McCartney tune comes courtesy of Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien, who shared his remix of “Slidin.’” It will appear on the April 16th release of McCartney III Imagined, which features numerous artists putting their own spin on songs from last year’s McCartney III. O’Brien worked on the track with producer Paul Epworth. and told BBC Radio 6 Music more about remix. “I really liked [‘Slidin’], and so I said to Paul Epworth, ‘would you fancy getting stuck in?’ He was really up for it. It was great. A moment of light in the darkness of the winter that’s just been,” O Brien said. “We had a lot of fun. Got into [McCartney’s] vocals and added some chaos, some guitar — my reference point was ‘Helter Skelter.’ Ramp up the intensity!” Prior to “Slidin’,...

After a five-year break between solo albums, Sufjan Stevens is already back with his next project after last year’s The Ascension. But for those expecting a concise sequel to the 15 tracks released in September, Convocations is far from it — even by Stevens’ standards. The five-volume album will seemingly release one volume at a time, every Thursday until May 6. Clocking in at about 150 minutes, the 49-song project is broken down into the artist’s interpretation of the five stages of mourning, with the volumes titled Meditations, Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations and Incantations. The idea was conceived and created around the release of The Ascension, which happened to closely coincide with the death of Stevens’ father. Ahead of Meditations’ full release on T...
On the 27th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, the Lumineers co-founder Jeremiah Fraites has shared his take on Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” It’s from Fraites’ just-announced EP titled Piano, Piano (Acoustic), which will be released via Dualtone Records on April 16. The new collection will be made up of seven live tracks of songs released on his debut album earlier this year, plus two covers, Billie Eilish’s “when the party’s over” joining the Nirvana tune. “Out of all Nirvana’s songs, ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ is my favorite,” Fraites said in a press release. “I remember listening to this song in the car while riding to middle school with my Mom. I think it has one of the strongest melodies ever written. I did my best to honor this song, especially on this day of remembrance as it ma...
Known for his artistic depth and imagination, 21-year-old wunderkind Petit Biscuit has done it again, this time with his visionary Parachute Remixes project. Released on April 2nd via Écurie, the 12-track album pulls from all corners of the electronic universe, culminating in a sonically diverse companion to his acclaimed 2020 sophomore album. If you need a dark and brooding remix for your track, look no further than Tchami. The acclaimed French DJ and dance music producer has been enlisted to do just that for Surf Mesa and Madison Beer‘s collaborative hit “Carried Away.” The original has seen viral success, surpassing 13 million global streams since its release in February, and Tchami is set to build off that success with his deep house rendition. Tchami fully transforms “Carried Away,” pulling Beer’s resounding vocals into a muted space while maintaining them at the forefront of our attention. He brings up the energy of the original with a steady beat that features brisk synths and his signature basslines. His reimagination of the love song will bring the romantics straight to the...
Just last week, fans of 1788-L received a glimmer of hope when the mysterious producer unveiled a cryptic new website, signaling the possibility of a return. The hunch has proven to be correct and a new EP has arrived. The highly-anticipated Parallel: S is out now via Deadbeats, marking his first release since 2019. Parallel: S symbolizes a new era for 1788-L, showcasing an evolution in his distinctive sound. The two-track EP’s lead single “Automation” draws inspiration from Daft Punk with its groovy melodies, vocoded vocals, and brash kickdrum pattern. It’s a welcomed sense of nostalgia since the robots’ recent departure. “Human Machine,” while not homogenous in nature to its counterpart, feels like the perfect accompaniment to express the d...
RL Grime is back, baby. After a mini hiatus on the release front, the famed Nova producer has teamed up with young gun ISOxo for “Stinger,” a haunting trap banger arriving by way of his own Sable Valley imprint. “Stinger” is signature RL Grime. More post-trap than OG, the track is a monster bass number that is primed to be rinsed across the festival circuit. Harkening back to his annual fan-favorite Halloween mixes, a pre-drop scream sample sets the tone before all hell breaks loose. The break is just as impressive, with tribal vox and eerie soundscapes that slither through a haunting arrangement before Grime and Iso wallop listeners with a ferocious second drop. Listen to “Stinger” below. Prior to “Stinger,” RL Grime’s last o...
