From prison, Kodak Black has dropped a new album called Bill Israel. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. Last summer, the 23-year old rapper pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges in Florida and was sentenced to 46 months in prison. He began serving time in Miami, but was moved to maximum-security Kentucky prison after grabbing a prison guard’s testicles and sending him to the hospital. His legal troubles continued this year, and in April he pleaded guilty to gun charges in New York. Luckily for him, that sentence is being served concurrently with his prior charges. Last month, he was transferred to an Illinois correctional facility after suing the Federal Bureau of Prisons alleging physical abuse, mental abuse, and religious suppression. Black is reportedly a practic...
Underground rap king Pharoahe Monch has formed the new group th1rt3en with guitarist Marcus Machado and drummer Daru Jones. Their first album, A Magnificent Day for an Exorcism, arrives January 22nd, and the trio has offered a preview with “Fight” featuring Cypress Hill. Monch has been a favorite of hip-hop heads since the 1990s, when his machine-gun flows bolstered the duo Organized Konfusion. Now, he’s joined forces with Machado, a former child prodigy who’s performed with Anderson .Paak and Pete Rock, as well as Jones, who’s handled drums for Jack White. Together, they specialize in a fusion of rap and rock, with Machado’s guitars providing a searing counterpoint to Monch’s lyrical assaults. In “Fight”, they use those sounds to face down the epidemic of police brutality. It opens ...
AC/DC are just days away from unleashing their highly anticipated comeback album, Power Up. In advance of the album’s release on Friday (November 13th), the band has unveiled the new single “Realize”. “Realize” is the leadoff track and second single from Power Up, following first single “Shot in the Dark”. Like the preceding single, “Realize” has a vintage AC/DC vibe, but is a bit heavier than “Shot in the Dark”. Brian Johnson delivers his full wail, as he sings over some heavy riffage from lead guitarist Angus Young. As previously reported, Power Up marks the return of three classic members to AC/DC. Johnson had left the band’s “Rock or Bust Tour” in 2016 due to hearing issues and was replaced with Axl Rose. Drummer Phil Rudd had been caught up in serious legal issues in New Zealand, whic...
Teenage Fanclub have announced a new album called Endless Arcade. Their first full-length since 2016 is due for arrival next year on March 5th. The forthcoming LP follows Here and marks the Scottish group’s first since the 2018 departure of founding member and bassist Gerard Love. In a statement about the project and its name, the band’s Raymond McGinley said, “I think of an endless arcade as a city that you can wander through, with a sense of mystery, an imaginary one that goes on forever.” He continued, “When it came to choosing an album title, it seemed to have something for this collection of songs.” Altogether there are 12 tracks on this new collection, including lead single “Home”. A jangly tune full of longing, it finds the veteran alt-rockers wondering if they’ll ever find comfort ...
Some say rock music has gone the way of the Neanderthals, but HAIM are bringing it back with their new song “Feel the Thunder”. Produced and co-written by Ariel Rechtshaid, the track appears in the upcoming animated caveman comedy The Croods: A New Age. With booming drums and guitars as flashy as a lightning storm, “Feel the Thunder” is a throwback to the go-go 1980s. As the band told Rolling Stone, they wanted to evoke the glamorous swagger of Guns ‘n Roses. That’s one of the reasons they tapped Rechtshaid, because according to Danielle Haim he is “the biggest Guns ‘n’ Roses fan.” She said, “He’s obsessed with them – he went and saw them on their most recent tour a bunch of times. And so I figured that that’s what we were looking for. We were like, ‘Let’s get Ariel.’ But I’d nev...
Classic Scottish alt rockers Teenage Fanclub announced the release of Endless Arcade, their first LP since 2016’s Here, with the premiere single, “Home.” Endless Arcade will drop on March 5, 2021. “I think of an endless arcade as a city that you can wander through, with a sense of mystery, an imaginary one that goes on forever,” says Raymond McGinley, one-half of the band’s songwriters for this album, in a statement. “When it came to choosing an album title, it seemed to have something for this collection of songs.” The group’s other songwriter, Norman Blake, added, “We’re all getting older, and you can’t help but think about mortality, especially when you’re being creative and reflecting on your life.” A press statement further clarifies that the album “walks a beautifully poise...

Haim have been known to churn out some great pop-rock music, as evidenced via their latest LP, Women in Music Pt. III. But when they were asked to contribute a song to the children’s movie The Croods: A New Age, Haim moved into a harder direction. Working with producer/co-writer and Guns N’ Roses superfan Ariel Rechtshaid, they were able to experiment with their sound and turn around a song inspired by the legendary rockers. [embedded content] “[Ariel’s] obsessed with them – he went and saw them on their most recent tour a bunch of times,” Danielle Haim told Rolling Stone. “And so I figured that that’s what we were looking for. We were like, ‘Let’s get Ariel.’ But I’d never tried to make music like that before, so it was fully like a crazy experiment.” Not only was this a fun track fo...
When Eels released “Are We Alright Again” in September, singer Mark Oliver Everett bka E said it was “kind of a quarantine daydream that I needed to have.” And the band has released a new video that completely brings that idea to fruition. Directed by Greg Barnes, the one-take visual presents actor Jon Hamm getting so ost in the new single that he doesn’t even realize that his home is getting robbed. With headphones on, he sips on his whiskey while bopping and singing along. In the background, you see burglars — played by actors Eric Edelstein, Caroline Bloom and Jude B. Lanston — grabbing everything they can, even holding comic Mike Mitchell hostage in the background. “We could all use a little comfort from the past year. Perhaps this song can provide a little for you like it does for the...
Last month, The Antlers returned with their first single in six years, “Wheels Roll Home”. Proving their comeback isn’t just a one-time affair, the indie rockers have shared another new song, “It Is What It Is”. While the preceding offering saw The Antlers overjoyed at the thought of reuniting with an old friend, today’s single is a more sobering listen. On it, frontman and lead songwriter Peter Silberman is forced to come to terms with an unexpected, and oftentimes less-than-ideal, reality. “‘It Is What It Is’ is a song about hindsight. It considers what might have changed had you handled things differently back then, and the reluctant acceptance that it’s too late for all that now,” he explained in a statement. “It’s the inevitability of changing seasons, transitions that feel like loss ...
Phoebe Bridgers has announced a new EP called Copycat Killer. Featuring four fresh takes on tracks from Bridgers’ latest album, Punisher, the EP will be available on November 20th. Punisher landed in June with all the force of a lightning strike. A quiet, searching effort, it’s one of those rare records that even the most cautious of critics would feel comfortable labelling an instant classic. Now, Bridgers has re-worked four standout songs: “Kyoto”, “Savior Complex”, “Chinese Satellite”, and “Punisher”. To do so, she’s enlisted the help of Rob Moose, co-founder of yMusic and occasional member of Bon Iver. Moose’s stirring string arrangements have added razzle-dazzle to songs by everyone from Sufjan Stevens to Taylor Swift. On paper, this partnership sounds just about perfect. Co...
