The Jaded Hearts Club, the new supergroup featuring members of Muse, Blur, and The Last Shadow Puppets, and Jet have announced their debut album. You’ve Always Been Here is due out October 2nd via Helium-3/BMG/Infectious Music, and is being previewed with a pair of cover songs in “We’ll Meet Again” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There”. Rock veterans Nic Cester (Jet), Graham Coxon (Blur), and Matt Bellamy (Muse) feature in the band, as do Miles Kane (The Last Shadow Puppets), Sean Payne (The Zutons), and guitarist Jamie Davis. While their first-ever single came out just this past March, The Jaded Hearts Club were actually informally formed back in 2017, when Davis was in search of a Beatles covers band for his birthday party. The available options were either too expensive or not up to par, so Dav...
Six years ago, Travis Barker lent his sticksmanship to the Run the Jewels 2 track “All Due Respect”. Now, El-P and Killer Mike have finally returned the favor by jumping on Barker’s latest solo single, “Forever”. Listen below. In June, El-P and Killer Mike released Run the Jewels 4, one of our favorite releases from 2020 so far. Earlier this week, they shared a new video for the RTJ4 track “JU$T” and launched their own branded cannabis strain. Beyoncé knows how to orchestrate a promotional cycle better than almost anyone in the game. So we probably shouldn’t be surprised that there’s more than just her new visual project, Black Is King, arriving today. In addition, the Queen Bey has shared an expanded deluxe edition of The Lion King: The Gift, as well as a music video for the album cut “Already”. Black Is King is a companion film to The Gift, itself a companion album to Disney’s live-action Lion King remake. The new deluxe edition of the LP includes Beyoncé’s recent single “BLACK PARADE”, originally released on Juneteenth, as well as an extended version that adds a good 35 seconds. There’s also a remix of “Find Your Way Back” by MeLo-x. Stream the collection below via Spotify and Apple Music. You can also hear it ...
Veteran songwriter and producer Róisín Murphy has announced her first album in over four years. Dubbed Róisín Machine, it’s slated for arrival on September 25th through Skint/BMG. Consisting of 10 songs, the new effort follows up on 2016’s Take Her Up To Monto and the 2015 Mercury Prize-nominated Hairless Toys. Like much of her past output, the LP continues Murphy’s creative partnership with longtime collaborator Crooked Man, aka DJ Parrot, and features varying shades of disco and funk. Our initial peek at Murphy’s Machine comes in the form of “Something More”, which was written by New York City-based musician Amy Douglas. “We met last year at a very interesting talk event in london about the psychology and science of Dub,” Murphy recalled in a statement. “We hit it off imme...
Juicy J has announced a guest-heavy new album called The Hustle Continues. Billed as the veteran rapper’s “first independent release” in over 10 years, it’s due out October 14th through eOne. For the upcoming effort, Juicy J hustled together a staggering list of hip-hop stars, including ASAP Rocky, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Logic, and Rico Nasty. Jay Rock, Conway the Machine, Ty Dolla $ign, NLE Choppa, Young Dolph, and Project Pat also feature on the album, as does fellow Three 6 Mafia member Lord Infamous. While Juicy J’s previous records were put out by major labels like Columbia, The Hustle Continues sees the Memphis rapper returning to his roots: eOne executive Alan Grunblatt, who was the first to offer Three 6 Mafia a record deal. Editors’ Picks “I’m thrilled...
T. Rex’s Marc Bolan (photo via Ian Dickson:Wikipedia) and Peaches (photo by Philip Cosores) There’s a massive tribute album coming out this September that sees everyone from U2 to Father John Misty covering the music of Marc Bolan and T. Rex. The latest artist to share their contribution to the compilation is Peaches, whose cover of the 1972 T. Rex single “Solid Gold, Easy Action” is as big as it is fun. So far, the songs we’ve heard from the tribute album, dubbed AngelHeaded Hipster, have been pretty imaginative thanks to artists like Joan Jett, Kesha, and The Sword. But Peaches puts her own unique spin on her cover while still remaining pretty faithful to the original track. According to a press release, that’s in part due to Hal Willner, the album’s producer and a longtime pa...
Lil Uzi Vert and Future have linked up for a new two-song collaborative project called Pluto x Baby Pluto. Take a listen to “Over Your Head” and “Patek” below. The songs arrive on Lil Uzi Vert’s 26th birthday (happy birthday!), and add to what has been an already massive year for the Philadelphia rapper. Back in March, he released his long-awaited sophomore album, Eternal Atake, along with the sequel to his 2017 mixtape, Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World. Future, meanwhile, has kept up his prolific ways, even amidst a pandemic. He dropped his latest album, High Off Life, in May. Beyond his work with Lil Uzi Vert, he’s also collaborated on tracks with DaBaby, Lil Yachty, Teyana Taylor, Jhené Aiko, and the late Pop Smoke. In a year where absolutely nothing is surprising anymore, and nothing is ever on time, Lil Uzi Vert and Future just reinvented what it means to be fashionably late. The hip-hop powerhouses came through on a promise and sort-of-surprise-dropped two new tracks “Over Your Head” and “Patek,” on Friday afternoon. While the pair teased a joint effort this month on Instagram — with a date of July 31 attached — fans were disappointed to see the release was absent from streaming services on Friday at midnight EST. But even with a tardy pass, Hendrix and Baby Pluto just came through with a pair of emo-trap slappers to help us graduate past Summer 2020. “Over Your Head” sees Uzi — who dropped his sophomore album Eternal Atake earlier this year — taking charge with Future giving the uptempo, sing...
Hinds released their excellent new album The Prettiest Curse last month to help soundtrack our summer. While they were recording those songs, it turns out they were also rehearsing a cover of The Clash’s track “Spanish Bombs”. Now, they’ve released the studio version of that cover. Of course, “Spanish Bombs” comes from London Calling, The Clash’s iconic album and one of the most influential punk rock records of all time. While “Spanish Bombs” is a classic in its own right, the song has additional meaning for the members of Hinds because of its perspective on the Spanish Civil War — singer Joe Strummer was inspired to write about it after he heard about the Costa Brava hotel bombings on the radio at the time — as a piece of pop culture history. “The Clash were my mom’s forever favorite band...
The Go-Go’s finally premieres tomorrow (Aug. 1), and they are celebrating the documentary’s release with their first new song in nearly 20 years. While some bands would try to align their sound with what’s current, The Go-Go’s go with what they’re known for — rolling guitars the grow toward the chorus. Summer beach feels all around, and we fully appreciate it. “Club Zero” was self-produced and came to fruition through a series of email conversations. It was recorded in San Francisco with co-producer/mixer/engineer Travis Kasperbauer and with Gabe Lopez in Los Angeles. And The Go-Go’s shows the Los Angeles band’s rise to fame in the early 1980s and how the went from playing in the L.A. punk rock scene to filling arenas. There will also be early footage from recording sessions as well as the...
