All Them Witches are offering up a nice respite from all the chaos going on in the world. The Nashville rockers have announced the forthcoming release of a new album, Nothing as the Ideal. Moreover, the band is teaming up with Heavy Consequence to share a taste of what’s to come with opening track “Saturnine & Iron Jaw”. Nothing as the Ideal will arrive on September 4th via via New West Records. The album was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles famously laid down most of their iconic catalog. Mike Patton joined fellow original members Trevor Dunn (bass) and Trey Spruance (guitar) for a series of reunion shows in February of this year, with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo rounding out the touring lineup. This past week has been rife in police protests, rampant looting, burning buildings, and a blatant lack of equality following the death of George Floyd. During all of this, President Donald Trump has been, to quote Taylor Swift, “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism.” So it was only a matter of time until politically driven punk group Pussy Riot stepped in to write “1312”, a new song about ending police brutality. “1312” sees the Russian group collaborating with Argentinean artists Parcas, Dillom, and Muerejoven as a form of solidarity — similarly to their Vic Mensa track “Hangerz” — to honor “the bravery and strength shown in front of abusive police forces” at Chilean protests. Now he’s back with another acronymic protest song to match the current socio-political climate: “FTP”, or “Fuck the Police”. For this year’s Record Store Day, Brandi Carlile has teamed up with remaining Soundgarden members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron to record new versions of “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching with My Good Eye Closed”. This tribute to Soundgarden will be released as a 12-inch on September 26th, which is the second of three separate Record Store Drops this year. In addition to Thayil, Shepherd, and Cameron, Brandi Carlile worked with her frequent collaborators, twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth. The songs were recorded at Seattle’s London Bridge Studio, a legendary place that hosted both Soundgarden and Brandi Carlile early in their careers.
