The Streets Demands to Know “Where the F*ck Did April Go” on New Single: Stream

The winter holidays tend to whiz by like a blur, and yet Januarys always seem to last forever. Because of this pandemic, the concept of time is again eluding those of us in lockdown, including The Streets mastermind Mike Skinner. Today, he voices his quarantine frustrations on the aptly titled “Where the F*ck Did April Go”. Skinner here takes a more ambient approach to his catharsis, his reflections quietly unfurled over cool and soft keyboard chords. In addition to tensions with a loved one, he laments the ruining of summer and how his “10,000 steps” have to all be done inside his flat. “I wrote this last week. It’s a weird time isn’t it,” The Streets rapper remarked in a statement. We were looking forward to the Summer just like everyone else, festivals and gigs all there, new music, new...

St. Vincent Brings the Piano Bar Vibes on ‘The Eddy’

Netflix’s The Eddy premieres today (May 8), and its soundtrack features a new song sung by St. Vincent. Since the film follows the struggles of keeping a jazz club in Paris afloat, St. Vincent’s version of the theme song quickly brings you to the middle of a dimly lit and smoky piano bar with a glass of strongest libation in your hand. Joanna Kulig, who plays Maja, one of the show’s leads, sings the theme song on the show. Randy Kerber, who worked with The Eddy director Damien Chazelle on La La Land co-wrote the soundtrack with Glen Ballard, who has done production for Alanis Morissette and Michael Jackson. St. Vincent is no stranger to the piano ballads and showed off that musical side with 2017’s MASSEDUCATION. More recently, St. Vincent has been entertaining fans with her podcast, Showe...

Puscifer Share ‘Apocalyptical,’ First New Song in 5 Years

Tool had been rolling along on the road — until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Once that tour got postponed, singer Maynard James Keenan instead (in all likelihood) figured it was a good time to roll out a new Puscifer song. Titled “Apocalyptical,” which is decidedly fitting for these times, the five-and-a-half-minute tune is synth-driven and the video for it, which you can watch below, is likely inspired by the pandemic. It starts off with a guy skateboarding in a hazmat suit in Los Angeles and kinda just goes off from there. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Keenan explained a bit about the song and how it was made. “Try it again tomorrow or try it again a week from now, but don’t let yourself off the hook. Force it. And then all of a sudden you’ll find when you get past this, it’s ...

And with Bellamy’s whispery tone, it feels like he’s trying to remind you that everything will be alright in the end. “This song captures my mood and feelings whilst in lockdown,” Bellamy said in a statement. “I have been reminded of what really matters in life and have discovered growing optimism, appreciation and hope for the future.” With lyrics like “Look for tomorrow / The end of our sorrows / Our world could be so full of joy,” Bellamy wants people to continue being hopeful. As for the story behind th...

She said that after breakup bop “Reminds Me” and last year’s Clarity project “I had cried all my tears and moved on, so this is a reflection of how I’ve been feeling.” The Ariana Grande and Charli XCX associate hopes her fans, too, are lifted up by the single — especially during this pandemic. “I just want ‘Malibu’ to be a fizzy, refreshing drink that comes to you dur...

Jacknife Lee Starts a Riot With Beth Ditto and Earl St. Clair on “I’m Getting Tired”: Stream

Between lockdown, the pandemic death toll, and The White House’s endless foibles, it’s hard not to feel completely burnt out on reality. With the help of his two collaborators, Lee turns all of his inner frustrations outward in the form of soulful chaos mixed with noise-rock and fiery jazz fusion and funk. The collision of genres may seem a little busy on paper, but Lee is a master of balancing everything out — after all, his production credits do include an array of artists, such as R.E.M., Taylor Swift, and The Killers, and Regina Spektor. And at the end of the day, it’s that clashing of feelings and sounds that ultimately provides the catharsi...
