Oh KDrew, who hurt you? In his latest single, the production virtuoso flexes his abilities as a singer-songwriter—and it’s a tearjerker. Dubbed “Losing My Mind,” the track is a lovelorn banger that conjures the euphoric electro of the early 2010s. KDrew’s gut-wrenching lyrics tell the story of someone languishing through a relationship which is disintegrating in real-time. “But then the weight of the world came crashing down, and you just left me out to dry,” he croons. “We could’ve had it all, we should’ve had it right—what a crime.” All said and done, “Losing My Mind” reinforces KDrew as an electronic music aesthete with an unmatched skill-set. In addition to penning the lyrics and recording...

A little over a week after announcing that her sophomore album was on the way, Maggie Rogers has shared its first single. Titled “That’s Where I Am,” the song was written by Rogers and co-produced with Kid Harpoon. The track was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bath, England. This is her first new song in three years. Rogers, who was once a SPIN intern, unveiled a teaser for the album with its announcement. After wrapping the Heard It in a Past Life tour in October 2019, Rogers relocated from New York to the Maine coast and “cut herself off from the noise of the outside world,” according to a statement. This change of location allowed her to channel “the frenetic intensity of the last two years of her life, bringing her braci...
Coming off his biggest year yet that includes a phenomenal collaboration with ILLENIUM and Valerie Broussard, Nurko has unveiled his Arrival EP. The slow-burning intro helps paint a vivid soundscape, directly leading into “Disappearing Now” (with Chander Leighton). Her ethereal vocals guide listeners through a familiar path, as she croons about struggling to clearly define one’s identity. The following tune, “Lost Without You” (with Crystal Skies and KnownAsNat), continues the moving presence found early on in the EP. KnownAsNat conveys heartbreak through her lyrics while the abundance of soaring synths...

Chicago indie-rock band Horsegirl released a new single titled “World of Pots and Pans.” The new track is a love song complete with fuzzy post-punk instrumentals and deadpan vocals reminiscent of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Despite the rugged exterior of the song, there is a tender charm in the lyrics that describes an unrequited romance. The accompanying lyric video features the band placing the lyrics on an overhead projector in time with the music. [embedded content][embedded content] “’World of Pots and Pans’ is the first love song Horsegirl has ever written—or the closest thing to it. We wrote it in Penelope’s basement while preparing to leave for our first-ever tour. The lyrics, inspired by the misinterpretation of a Television Personalities lyric, imagine a (possibly unrequited) roman...
