Ghastly Drops Massive New Bass Single “The OG” and Announces Upcoming EP

Ghastly‘s year in lockdown was a time of introspection, and he reflected as much in his productions. His singles “Help” and “Stay” were both cathartic and expressive of what many of us were feeling at the time.  As the live music scene slowly returns to a sense of normalcy, Ghastly is ready to bring back the energy with a brand new single, “The OG,” out now via Kannibalen Records.  Ghastly’s new festival-ready bass single “The OG” arrives just in time for Ubbi Dubbi this weekend.  Kannibalen Records “The OG” encompasses the hard-hitting bass we know and love from Ghastly and is built for the festival circuit. It has a slow, haunting build with distant claps and vocal chops looming in the eerie background...

YOOKiE Drop Wonky Trap Tune “Bubble Bass”

After teasing fans for nearly two years, bass music duo YOOKiE have finally dropped the curtain on one of their most hotly anticipated IDs. The YOOKiE brothers have made a name for themselves with a mind-melting sound all their own, which is on full display in their latest trap banger, “Bubble Bass.” Frothing with their signature quirky sound design, the track rumbles with granular bass, wacky droplet samples, and woozy vocals courtesy of YOOKiE. Staying true to YOOKiE’s genre-bending sonic flair, “Bubble Bass” is rife with ferocious production that foams at its arrangement’s mouth. Their unique style is one of the reasons Excision tapped the duo to release the first-ever EP on his celebrated Subsidia Records imprint back in October 2...

Weezer Bring the Metal With ‘I Need Some Of That’

Weezer wasn’t kidding when they said that their upcoming album, Van Weezer, would be heavier. Rivers Cuomo and company take things to headbanging heights with “I Need Some Of That,” the latest song to emerge from that album that’s out on May 7. “I Need Some Of That” follows the release of last year’s “Hero” and “Beginning Of The End,” as well as 2019’s “End Of The Game,” all of which appear on Van Weezer. The LP was initially announced in 2019, with a May 2020 release date which obviously didn’t pan out. OK Human, the group’s first-ever orchestral album, ended up dropping first. Van Weezer, the band’s fifteenth studio album, is produced by Suzy Shinn. The band also gave fans a sneak peek of Van Weezer song “Blue Dream”&n...

Josh Klinghoffer’s Pluralone to Unveil Earth Day EP

When we spoke to Josh Klinghoffer last year after he departed the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he told us he had many other individual projects he was working on — and he wasn’t kidding. Last July saw him (under the moniker Pluralone) release a single featuring tunes that he recorded with former bandmate Flea and fellow ex-Chili Pepper Jack Irons, along with a song from another LP. Earlier this year, he released a Dot Hacker single. And now, he’s back as Pluralone with an EP set for release in time for Earth Day. Aptly titled Mother Nature, the EP includes two new versions of “Mother Nature” (a track from the last album) along with four unreleased B-sides. “If someone said, ‘Mother Nature, thoughts?’ there are a few preposterous things that would come to mind,” Klinghoffer to...

Helmet Share Cover of Gang of Four’s ‘In the Ditch’

Helmet’s cover of Gang of Four’s “In the Ditch” is the fourth single to hail from the upcoming album The Problem of Leisure: A Celebration of Andy Gill and Gang of Four. This is Helmet’s first new song since 2016. Gill, who died in early 2020, was a fan of Helmet from their early days and had hoped to collaborate with them on a future music project. Page Hamilton from Helmet explained his involvement in the project via a statement, noting: “My old pal Henry Rollins reissued Entertainment! and Solid Gold back in the 90’s and asked me to do liner notes for Solid Gold. I don’t remember what I wrote but I know it was glowing, corny and fanboy. “Their songs, feel, energy, inventiveness made an indelible imprint on my musical soul,” he furthered. “All of our peers that formed bands in ...

Nero Keep the New Music Coming With Electrifying Edit of Genesis’ “Mama”

Last month, legendary trio Nero kicked off a string of edit releases with a massive rework of Daft Punk’s “Emotion.” The electronic outfit didn’t slow down after that, releasing edits at random intervals throughout the month thereafter, including a take on Tame Impala’s “Disciples” and classic 80s track “Relax” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Now, the next Nero bootleg is here, and it’s glorious. Travelling back even further in time for an edit of the Phil Collins-era Genesis, Nero’s version of “Mama” refreshes a nearly 40- year old song with a clean 2021 sheen. In classic Nero fashion, a dark and synth-driven production provides a nearly cyberpunk atmosphere that fits the trio’s aesthetic perfectly.&nbs...

Steve Aoki and Farruko Drop Collaborative Single “Aire” Just Ahead of 4/20

Steve Aoki has teamed up with Puerto Rican superstar Farruko for a new reggaeton single called “Aire.” Out on Ultra Music, the uplifting tune provides a pleasant poolside ambience. Released just ahead of the celebrated cannabis holiday 4/20, the lyrics praise the plant, stating “the atmosphere is good and it smells like marijuana” in Spanish. Using dembow rhythms, steel drums, and the dancehall vocals of Farruko, this song is ideal for summer. A blend of Spanish and English, the lyrics discuss a party that “doesn’t end until tomorrow,” and has hemp aplenty. In July 2020, Aoki launched his Dim Mak En Fuego imprint as an evolution of his Dim Mak label founded in 1996. This new banner gives a spotlight to Latin culture and experiences, and challenges the old ways of traditional Latin mus...

Sam Gellaitry Debuts New Pop Sound in “Duo” Music Video: Watch

Sam Gellaitry has come a long way since making trap and house beats in his Stirling bedroom. In his first-ever music video for his newest tune “Duo,” the renowned Scottish electronic artist shows off his own vocals and debuts his new pop sound. Released on the legendary Parlophone imprint, the single arrives ahead of his forthcoming EP due later this year. Funky guitar licks, groovy percussion, and bright synths flawlessly harmonize with Gellaitry’s catchy vocals, which tell a bitter tale of a romantic interest that took him for granted. The music video is glitchy and colorful, perhaps nodding to his synesthesia, a neurological condition that allows him to see music as colors. Gellaitry comes from a family of musicians. His father plays the bagpipe in classic Scottish tradition and his old...

Completely produced, sung, mixed, and recorded by Pauline herself, “Selfish” is a stunning indietronica ballad that’s sure to make waves with its emotive vocal work and dazzling production. Soaring pads and synths play nicely off of a trap-infused beat, complimenting Herr’s somber yet hopeful vocals.  “This song is special because it’s a lot more vocal driven than the other stuff I’ve released and it’s showcasing a ne...

The Mountain Goats Share ‘Mobile’ Single Ahead of New Dark in Here LP

Prolific indie quartet Mountain Goats have shared the song “Mobile” — described by frontman John Darnielle as the “weathered, gnarlier cousin to ‘Getting Into Knives’” — from their upcoming Dark in Here album, which is out June 25 on Merge Records. Dark in Here was recorded March 9-14, 2020, the week between Getting Into Knives and Songs for Pierre Chuvin at FAME Studios, the Alabama recording studio that’s hosted Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Gregg Allman and many more in the past. “Mobile” features Muscle Shoals players Spooner Oldham (Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt) on electric piano and Will McFarlane (Bonnie Raitt, Tammy Wynette) on lead guitar. Mountain Goats bassist Peter Hughes spoke about that experience and his interpretation of Darnielle’s lyrics in a s...

Kygo Drops Emotive New Single “Gone Are The Days”: Listen

Kygo has dropped his first single of the year, an emotive new track titled “Gone Are The Days” featuring British singer-songwriter James Gillespie. The release comes as a two-for-one and features a beautiful piano version along with the original.  The reflective single is heartbreaking but relatable for those who’ve loved and lost. Gillespie’s soulful and vulnerable vocal performance is impactful and beautifully supported by Kygo’s signature production of lush piano chords, soaring pads, and aching strings. Listen to the track below. Kygo recently performed one of the most awe-inspiring sets of his career earlier this year. The performance was streamed via Moment House and was filmed in the beautiful Sunnmore Alps in his home country of Norway. You can st...
