BROCKHAMPTON Unleash New Songs “I.F.L.”, “baby bull”, and “downside”: Stream

For the third Friday running, BROCKHAMPTON have shared a cache of new music. This week, it’s a chilled-out trio of tracks in “I.F.L.”, “baby bull”, and “downside”. A handful of BROCKHAMPTON members are in quarantine together, and as they’ve done the last two weeks, they hosted a password-protected livestream called Technical Difficulties. Via the fans at /r/BROCKHAMPTON, the boy band is being cagey about what Technical Difficulties actually is — album, loosies, or something else entirely. However, they did suggest that it’s happening without label RCA’s approval, which might explain why none of the premieres have made it to Apple Music or Spotify, and also why the four previous releases — “M.O.B.” and “twisted”, as well as “N.S.T.” and “things can’t stay the same” — have already ...

BTS Member Suga Releases New Agust D Mixtape: Stream

BTS member Suga has dropped off a new mixtape under his Agust D moniker. Dubbed D-2, it’s streaming in full below alongside a new music video for “Daechwita”. For Suga, real-name Min Yoon-Gi, this marks his second overall following a self-titled solo tape in 2016. D-2 is comprised of a total of 10 songs, including titles like “Moonlight”, “Strange”, “Burn It”, and an interlude called “Set me free”. To celebrate the release, the K-pop megastar is sharing a visual for “Daechwita”, which is also the name for a kind of Korean military music. Directed by Yong Seok Choi (Lumpens), a sword-wielding Agust D and his group of friends conspire to take down a corrupt king. Editors’ Picks “The theme ‘Daechwita’ was already on my mind when I first started working on this track, so I samp...

IDK served as the music supervisor, composer, and narrator for Kevin Durant’s new Showtime documentary Basketball County: In the Water. As part of the gig, the Baltimore rapper also recorded new music specifically for the project. Earlier this month, we heard IDK rep his and Durant’s hometowns on “495” featuring Rico Nasty. Today, IDK is dishing out a new single dubbed “Mazel Tov”, and it includes guest bars from fellow East Coaster ASAP Ferg. Editors’ Picks Co-produced by Ronny J and IDK, the slowly percolating cut includes references to NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Tesla, and Kylie Jenner. Check out “Mazel Tov” below via its official music video. IDK and Ferg previously linked up on the latter’s “Kristi YamaGucci” single from 2018. (We’re sensing a sports-related theme between thes...

Gia Woods Is Anything But “Naive” in Her New Song: Stream

Persian indie pop artist Gia Woods is back with a new song called “Naive”. It’s the latest track she’s shared from her new CUT SEASON EP, and it very well may be the next anthem for her LGBTQ+ community. “I can’t wait to perform ‘Naive’ on electric guitar. It sounds insane,” Woods said during her recent Ask Me Anything on Reddit. “It’s my personal most favorite song I’ve ever written and I hope y’all love it just as much as I do!” Lyrically, the song sees Woods reflecting on past relationships and the lessons she’s learned from them, namely to stand by herself, even when she’s made to feel crazy. “I’ve been in two long-term relationships and when they ended, both my exes said, ‘You never felt like my girlfriend.’ At the time, it was jarring to hear,” she said in a statement. “Looking back ...

100 gecs Throw a Backyard Rave on New “stupid horse” Remix: Stream

Earlier this month saw 100 gecs member Dylan Brady contribute extensively to how i’m feeling now, the quarantine album from Charli XCX. Now, 100 gecs proper are back with new material of their own: a remix of “stupid horse” featuring UK pop singer GFOTY and producer Count Baldor. Compared to the original version found on last year’s acclaimed 1000 gecs debut, today’s rework capitalizes further on the duo’s manic, off-the-wall brand of experimental, futurist pop. Guitar parts have been swapped out for shredder-like synths and the whole thing feels like a Blink-182 and Sleigh Bells mashup on the verge of implosion. Check out the remix below via an official video directed and edited by Weston Allen. As to be expected from 100 gecs’ Brady and Laura Les, it’s a bonkers watch filled wi...

Coriky is Ian MacKaye’s new band with his Fugazi bassist Joe Lally, as well as MacKaye’s spouse and co-founder of The Evens, Amy Farina. Together, the group has shared the new single “Too Many Husbands”. They’ve also announced an altered release plan for their self-titled debut album, which now drops on streaming services on June 12th. All three of MacKaye, Lally, and Farina are singers. But while the trio harmonized on lead single “Clean Kill”, the new cut “Too Many Husbands” is a showcase for Farina’s expressive vocals. She overflows with attitude: sneering, blustering, and crackling with wit. Her performance is complemented by staccato bursts of guitar punctuated with furious walls of noise. Check out Coriky’s “Too Many Husbands” below. When the rockers first revealed the record back in...

Migos Team with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on “Need It”: Stream

The trap gods of Migos have teamed with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on their new single “Need It”. The track is all about money — but as the title implies, it’s not about merely wanting cash, it’s about doing anything and everything to get it. The structure involves pairs of rappers trading bars, with most of the song given over to a lyrical tennis match between YoungBoy and Offset. “I said I need it!” YoungBoy sneers, and Offset hits the ball back in his court with, “This Draco undefeated!” With those two on the first verse and chorus, Quavo and Takeoff are relegated to the second verse. That means every part of the song benefits from a high-energy tenor and a smooth-talking baritone, and that tried-and-true formula sure sounds easy on the ear. Listen to “Need It” below. The collab is anot...

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande Drop Collaborative Single “Rain on Me”: Stream

With just a week to go before the arrival of Chromatica, Lady Gaga has unveiled the album’s most highly anticipated collaboration: “Rain on Me” featuring Ariana Grande. Check it out below via its official music video. On the new single, the two pop powerhouses take turns belting out lines like, “I’d rather be dry, but at least I’m alive.” The pair took a similar empowering stance in all of the track’s various promos on social media, which featured Gaga and Grande striking poses in outfits straight out of a sci-fi flick. In an interview with Apple Music on Thursday, Gaga recalled how the partnership came together, “I said to her, ‘OK, now everything that you care about while you sing, I want you to forget it and just sing. And by the way, while you’re doing that, I’m going to dance in ...

The two bandmates also helped produce David Berman’s first and only album as Purple Mountains. Editors’ Picks According to a statement, the new record’s 11 tracks — including lead single “Where Do You When You Dream?” — serve a “sweet reflection for the 15-year-old band, bouncing back to earth as something hopeful and weird and resolute.” Stran...

Meskerem Mees Is Not Your Average “Joe” on Her Debut Single: Stream

You may not know Belgium-based singer-songwriter Meskerem Mees just yet, but she’s ready to charm you with a formal first impression. At least that’s the plan for her debut single, “Joe”, which she’s released today along with an accompanying music video. Mees is a 20-year-old indie folk artist with Ethiopian roots. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a gentle, scratchy voice, she whisks up music akin to Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, and Jade Bird in a modest but nurturing style. After stealing the spotlight at local live shows in Europe, she’s finally begun making moves to formally record and release her music. That’s where “Joe” comes in. With a soothing, strolling guitar melody, Mees tells the story of a wandering man who won the protagonist over when she was just a teenager. The narrative...
