The Story Behind Blondie’s Iconic “Rapture”

Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Pocket Casts | RSS Blondie are, without question, one of the most successful, iconic, and influential bands in rock and roll history. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 15 years ago, the Debbie Harry-fronted group has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and continues to release new music. But the “rock and roll” label doesn’t do justice to the group’s genre-bending music. What started as a punk band in the mid-1970’s in New York City after Harry and guitarist Chris Stein broke off from their earlier band, The Stillettoes, Blondie (first called Angel and the Snake) always innovated, infusing pop, disco, new wave, reggae, and rap elements into their music. Duran Duran Unveil New Single “ANNIVERSARY”: Stream

With Duran Duran’s upcoming album, FUTURE PAST, arriving in October, the new wave veterans have unveiled the latest preview, titled “ANNIVERSARY.” Stream it below. Co-produced by the band with British DJ and producer Erol Alkan, “ANNIVERSARY” contains hints of previous Duran Duran hits meant to be Easter eggs for fans to uncover. “‘ANNIVERSARY’ is a special song for us. Obviously we were conscious of our own impending 40th anniversary of making music together, but we wanted the song’s meaning to be inclusive in the broadest possible way,” bassist John Taylor explained in a statement. “After playing and working together for so long, we very much appreciate what ‘being together’ and ‘staying together’ can really mean, it’s not something we would have thought song-worthy 40 years ago but we d...

Men Without Hats Reinvent “Safety Dance” with New Single “No Friends of Mine”: Stream

Nearly four decades after unleashing “Safety Dance” on the world, Men Without Hats are writing the next chapter of the story with their new single “No Friends of Mine.” Take a listen below. Built around hop-scotching synths, booming percussion, and an all-too-familiar melody line on flute, the track slows the 1982 new wave classic down into a rather soothing meditation while replicating its original lyrics. “We can dance if we want to/ We can leave your friends behind/ ‘Cause your friends don’t dance/ And if they don’t dance/ Well, they’re no friends of mine,” Ivan Doroschuk croons before a bombastic beat crashes in on the song’s chorus. “After the filming of the music video for ‘Safety Dance,’ the jester and the crazy blonde girl settled down in West Kington. He became the mayor of the to...

Robert Fripp and a Pixelated Toyah Cover Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams”: Watch

Another Sunday means another performance from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp and singer Toyah Willcox. The married couple are once again joined by mysterious second guitarist Sidney Jake for a cover of the Eurythmics classic “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”. As she’s done in the past, Toyah sports nothing but a sheer top and body paint, but apparently this one was a bit too revealing. Perhaps she got an alert from YouTube upon uploading the video, or decided to censor the clip herself, but either way there’s strategically placed pixelation throughout the performance. And while Toyah’s skimpy outfits often take center stage in the couple’s weekly “Sunday Lunch” series of cover songs, her voice shines on the Eurythmics cover, as she delivers a nice clean version of the 1983 single. As ...
