Lil Nas X “Industry Baby,” Belly ft. The Weeknd & Young Thug “Better Believe” & More | Daily Visuals 7.23.21

HipHopWired Featured Video Oh, so y’all thought Lil Nas X giving Satan a lap dance was hard on your eyes? Wait till you see what he’s like when he’s locked up in prison with men who claim the Devil made them do it. Looking to push the envelope in his latest visuals to “Industry Baby,” Lil Nas X finds himself sentenced to three years in prison, but instead of doing hard time he finds himself turning out the joint and even leading a choreographed naked dance number in the shower with fellow inmates. Expect conservatives to wig out over this one too. Elsewhere Belly links up with The Weeknd and Young Thug to ride through the night in some exotic whips before setting the city a blaze in their clip to “Better Believe.” Pretty impressive CGI effects. Check out the rest of today’s drops including...

Michael B. Jordan Developing Black Superman Project for HBO Max

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Kevork Djansezian / Getty For comic book fans, a Black Superman is nothing new. But actor Michael B. Jordan is developing a Black Superman project that will surely bring the concept more visibility since it will be for HBO Max if all goes to plan. The OG Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster has an eventual origin story that pegs the big blue-eyed farm boy as an alien refugee from the doomed planet Krypton and has him appearing as a typical, but cock-diesel, white guy from Kansas. The aesthetic has carried on to the big and little screen mostly, see: Christopher Reeves in 1978’s Superman or Henry Cavill in 2013’s Man Of Steel, for example. Thanks to the concept of multiverses there has been a “Black” Superman in the DC Comics Universe. Collider...

Taylor Swift Fans Reflect on Powerful Impact of ‘Folklore’ on Album’s First Anniversary

“Happy one year to the album that is everything and quite literally saved so many of us during the chaos an uncertainty of last year,” one fan tweeted. “Love you and your team of folklorians so incredibly much.” Another Swiftie wrote, “folklore feels like a warm blanket on a cold day, or a warm hug on an especially rough day. Thank you for creating this beautiful album that has saved my life and has made me feel understood. Please never stop making music. I love you.” Swift herself celebrated Folklore‘s first birthday by gifting fans an original version of the album’s bonus track, “The Lakes.” “It’s been 1 year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler,” the 31-year-old singer tweeted on Saturday. ̶...

Camila Cabello Responds to Backlash Over Dancer in ‘Don’t Go Yet’ Performance

In response to the tweets, Cabello said that the intention was for the dancer to look like a character with a bad fake tan. On Saturday afternoon Cabello shared an iPhone Notes app statement that said: “hey! so this dude was just supposed to be a white man with a terrible spray tan. we purposefully tried to pull together a multicultural group of performers, the expectation was not that everyone in the performance needed to be Latin. There are white people, African American people, latin people, etc. and so the point wasn’t to try to make everyone look Latin either. There are a lot of people in the performance who are not.” “The point was to try to make each person look like an over the top 80’s character just like in the video, including a white dude with a te...

Liz Phair Exits Summer Tour With Alanis Morissette & Garbage

As Phair shared, Cat Power is joining the lineup for the U.S. leg of the trek, which kicks off on Aug. 12 in Austin and runs through early October. Morissette is celebrating the delayed 25th anniversary of 1995’s Jagged Little Pill. The tour was originally scheduled for summer 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic. “When she asked me [to do this tour], it was at a difficult point for me, where I was trying to come back as an artist, and the industry powers that be are like, ‘You’ve already done your thing, we’re focusing on younger artists we can build and then reap the rewards for a long time,'” Phair, who released the album Soberish this year, told Billboard in May. “I found it really hard, harder than I exp...

Lil Nas X Responds to “Industry Baby” Music Video Backlash, Raises Thousands for Bail Project

Leave it to Lil Nas X to get the people talking. Earlier this week, the rapper shared the clip for his latest single, the Jack Harlow-featuring “Industry Baby.” The accompanying clip depicts Lil Nas X throwing a dance party in jail with a slew of naked men. As with all good things Lil Nas X, the video has been met with criticism, to which the rapper offered his trademark smart — and sometimes hilarious — responses. Journalist and social media commentator Tariq Nasheed accused Lil Nas X of racism in the “Industry Baby” music video, writing on Twitter: “White corporate music execs funded a music video with Lil Nas X, where a bunch of Black men are in prison twerking. And the lone white man, Jack Harlow is sexually involved with a FEMALE guard. But all the Black men are sexually engaging with...

Liz Phair Pulls Out of Tour With Alanis Morissette and Garbage, Replaced by Cat Power

Bad news for those who were planning to catch Liz Phair on tour with Alanis Morissette and Garbage this year: Phair announced this week that she had pulled out of the tour. In her place, fellow ’90s icon Cat Power will join the lineup on the Jagged Little Pill 25th anniversary tour. “Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, I won’t be able to join Alanis & Garbage on tour this summer,” the singer-songwriter wrote on Twitter. “I’m incredibly disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing all of your beautiful faces. Shoutout to Alanis, Garbage, and Cat Power, who I know will put on an incredible show. Hope to see you all soon!” The “Why Can’t I?” singer has yet to give any indication to what prompted her dropping out of the tour, which kicks off in Austin this August after being delayed...

Somehow, an entire year has passed since Taylor Swift surprise-dropped her eighth studio album, folklore. To celebrate the anniversary, the singer-songwriter has gifted Swifties with an original version of “the lakes,” the album’s bonus track. “It’s been 1 year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler,” Swift wrote on social media. “With tall trees & salt air. Where you can wear lace nightgowns that make you look like a Victorian ghost & no one will side eye you cause no one is around.” “To say thank you for all you have done to make this album what it was, I wanted to give you the original version of The Lakes. Happy 1 year anniversary to Rebekah, Betty, Inez, James, Augustine and the stories we all created around them. Happy Anniversary, f...

The sizzling pic caught the attention of several stars, including fellow singer Tinashe. “BRITNEYYYYYYYYYYY,” she wrote in the comments section. Paris Hilton also reacted with her famous catchphrase, “That’s hot.” Spears is currently in the midst of her ongoing conservatorship battle. Prosecutors Air More Claims in R. Kelly Case, One Involving an Underage Boy

The Grammy Award-winning singer is charged with leading what prosecutors call a criminal enterprise of managers, bodyguards and other employees who allegedly helped him recruit women and girls for sex and pornography and to exercise a lot of control over them. The charges involve six different women and girls, who aren’t named in court filings. Now, prosecutors would also like jurors to hear about more than a dozen other people whom the government alleges that Kelly sexually or physically abused, threatened or otherwise mistreated. Among them, the government says, was a 17-year-old boy and aspiring musician whom Kelly met at a McDonald’s in December 2006 and later invited to his Chicago studio. After asking the boy what he would do to make it in the music business, Kelly propositioned and ...
