The entire two-day experience costs $35, or $20 for one day, which met organizers’ goal of “being cheap and accessible,” says Splendour in the Grass co-producer Jessica Ducrou, who is developing this year’s event with co-producer Paul Piticco. “We wanted to re-create the festival as it exists in real life. People who’ve been will be able to connect with the space and their memories and their experiences and people that haven’t been will get to see what it looks like.” Ducrou is describing the festival as extended reality, taking what fans are used to experiencing online and augmenting the realism using virtual reality headsets and spatial sound, noting “it’s more than watching a stream — it’s an immersive...

In the spirit of the game for which it was named, Hopscotch Music Festival has leapt over the square marked 2020 and landed on 2021. The event returns to Raleigh, North Carolina from September 9th through 11th with appearances by Animal Collective, Flying Lotus, and Dr. Dog on their farewell tour. Hopscotch built its brand around an experimental and underground vibe, though those adjectives haven’t described this year’s headliners for quite a while. But few will complain about seeing more recognizable names on the roster. In addition to the bold-faced acts, the fest boasts performances by Caroline Polachek, Parquet Courts, and Shannon & The Clams, as well as Archers of Loaf, Body Meat, Bowerbirds, Colin Stetson, Dougie Poole, Garcia Peoples, Hannah Jadagu, Helado Negro, Hippo Camp...
Producer Brady Watt has teamed up with Westside Gunn and DJ Premier for their new collaborative single, “The Narcissist.” Along with the two-and-a-half minute track, the artists have shared a music video animated by cartoonist Jim Warren to bring the track’s lyrics to life. “The Narcissist” opens with a drumless, twinkly synth riff, and the beat gradually builds into a swirling instrumental with a jazzy bassline. “I cooked up this composition how I usually do, just jamming in the studio,” Watt explained in a press release. “I used three basses on this; my fretted, fretless, and upright…This song really manifested itself, and I’m honored to have my name next to these titans.” DJ Premier added, “This one was more of me listening to Brady’s direction and vision. I felt like it needed some dru...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz83 If y’all thought Nike was done suing people for customizing their classic kicks, think again. After taking Lil Nas X and Warren Lotas to court over their remixes of some of their timeless silhouettes, Nike has now filed a lawsuit against Customs By Ilene, Inc a.k.a Drip Creationz for daring to re-imagine some Air Force 1’s. According to TFL, Nike has slapped a trademark infringement suit against CBI for profiting off of “knockoff Air Force 1-style shoes that it refers to as ‘D1’ shoes.” Not only did Nike dismiss the customs as knockoffs, but even criticized the designs saying “crooked proportions, messy stitching, cheap details, and [are] taller than the real Air Force 1 shoes.” Talk about sh*tting on someone else’s artwo...
Williams won multiple Grammys in all three of these years. He also took the 2003 award for best pop vocal album for co-producing Justin Timberlake’s solo debut Justified; the 2013 award for album of the year for co-producing Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories (and two other awards for its breakout hit “Get Lucky”); and the 2018 award for best pop vocal album for co-producing Ariana Grande’s Sweetener. Rick Rubin and Greg Kurstin are runners-up, with two wins each for producer of the year, non-classical since 2000. Rubin won the 2006 and 2008 awards. Kurstin won the 2016 and 2017 awards. Kurstin was the first producer to win back-to-back awards in this category since Babyface won three years running — 1995-97. Remarkably, Rubin produced or co-produced three of the 2006 album of ...
“I’m happy he’s found Christ but there’s so much compromise,” the Twitter user wrote, referring to the direction ‘Ye’s music has taken since his back-to-back 2019 gospel projects Jesus Is King and Jesus Is Born, the latter of which is credited to the Sunday Service Choir. “And then to find out that he helped produce that demonic sonf/video that Lil Nas X made is so upsetting.” But the 22-year-old rapper shut that down immediately by responding, “There was nothing demonic about the industry baby video. just say u hate gay people musty.” LNX was also surprised to find out that people took issue with his latest video, which in one widely discussed scene depicts a group of naked men dancing in a prison shower...
Tommy Torres, El Playlist de Anoche (Rimas Entertainment) For his first album in almost a decade, Tommy Torres teamed up with Bad Bunny to co-produce and co-write the nine tracks on El Playlist de Anoche. Torres and Bunny may not have a lot of things in common but both are very intentional with the music they write; they want their fans to feel via lyrics that are packed with tangible emotions. The pair does just that with this set that touches on love and heartbreak where Torres remains true to his signature alt rock-tinged, sentimental pop but integrates a rock star attitude after learning how to phrase the way Bunny does. The eclectic set kicks off with the sentimental pop track “Toda La Noche” – the only song on the album where you’ll hear Bunny as he sets the mood for the guitar-power...
