“Canaries” is the guitar-pounding new single by Los Angeles-based post-punk band, Cuffed Up, led by their Fender-slinging vocalist, Sapphire Jewell. The music video, which she directed, is grainy and off-kilter — just like the song. [embedded content] “The nature of the beast, you choose to say the least,” Jewell sings tremulously over the crooked chaos provided by her bandmates, Ralph Torrefranca, Joe Liptock, and Vic Ordonez. “‘Canaries’ is about going down a path that you know is wrong, yet you keep going because some form of shame is driving you,” the band said in a statement. “Sometimes we become numb to the burdens we carry.” If the song reminds you of Nineties hardcore/grunge, it’s because it was produced by one of the decade’s musical architects, Brad Wood. Cuffed Up’s manager, Bla...

Little Mix gave fans a “Heartbreak Anthem” with Galantis and David Guetta, but the pregnant members of the girl group felt a different kind of pain during the video shoot. In an official behind-the-scenes clip from the music video, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock — who are both pregnant — reveal how cumbersome pulling off the video was, especially the wardrobe and mechanical angel wings. “I’m literally living my childhood dream right now in this music video. The glitz, the glamour, the hair is so crazy, the outfits and the wings. We are going to be like creatures,” Edwards says in the video before thinking about how the glitz and glam might weigh on her throughout the shoot. “It’s just the start. We haven’t started filming yet. So ...

In an early glimpse at a forthcoming Velvet Underground tribute album, indie rockers Kurt Vile and the Violators released their souped-up rendition of “Run Run Run,” the 1967 song Lou Reed penned on the back of a napkin. The song is a personal favorite of Vile’s, who mimicked Reed’s needling guitar solo in the song as a teenager. [embedded content] “So it was a cosmic thing … There is a direct connection to certain indie bands and beyond with the Velvets. That’s why the Velvets are a classic,” Vile said in a press statement. “[Their songs] can have doo-wop in there and things like that, but it can also have this jagged noisy thing, and it immediately let me feel like I could do anything.” I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to the Velvet Underground & Nico will arrive September 24, via Verv...
