Ice Cube Details Nasty Beef With Studio Over ‘Last Friday’ Sequel

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz83 If you’re looking forward to ever seeing Last Friday, you may have to wait until the literal last Friday in existence, if it’s meant to be.   According to the Wall Street Journal, Ice Cube and Warner Bros., the studio that owns the rights to the Friday franchise, are at an impasse over its fourth and reported final film of the celebrated series. The film’s creator and the studio have been going back and forth over the many weeks via nasty letters rooted in gross creative differences, unreasonable demands, and even allegations of discrimination. Indie Wire reports that the whole beef started when Warner Bros. made too many demands for script changes that Ice Cube didn’t take too kindly to. The film was originally set ...

Tyler, The Creator Seemingly Trolls DJ Khaled After Going No. 1

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Tyler, The Creator is easily one of the most entertaining music personalities of today, and his quick-witted and energetic demeanor makes him a captivating subject. Keeping that same energy, the Odd Future co-founder’s latest album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 charts and he seemingly trolled DJ Khaled via social media as a result. Harkening back to 2019 when DJ Khaled threw shots at Tyler, The Creator ahead of the California star’s Grammy Award-winning IGOR album with the Florida producer labeling Tyler’s music as “mysterious” in a bid to downplay its impact on the culture. “I make albums so people can play it and you actually hear it,” Khaled said in a now-deleted post. “You know, driving your car...

#FreeBritney: Dance Music Artists Weigh In On Britney Spears Conservatorship Battle

After the latest setback in Britney Spears‘ explosive conservatorship battle, the #FreeBritney movement has mutated into a full-blown crusade. With legions of supporters that seem to be growing by the second, the movement is unafraid of locking horns with a justice system they deem to be wicked. Their fervent support of Spears has remained resolute as she remains ensnared in a 13-year legal arrangement that has given her father, Jamie Spears, complete control of her life. In a 20-minute statement provided by Spears in late June to a probate judge in Los Angeles, the pop icon harangued the conservatorship, saying she wants to sue her family after being “abused” by a therapist, among other shocking allegations. Despite her pleas for help, the court ultimately denied her req...

Quentin Tarantino Buys Vista Theatre in Los Angeles

While the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated cinema’s movement towards streaming services, Quentin Tarantino is investing in the theatrical experience. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has now purchased the historic Vista Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. “I bought the Vista on Sunset,” Tarantino announced on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. “We’ll probably open it up around Christmas time.” This is the second venue acquired by Tarantino, after he picked up the New Beverly Cinema in 2007. That theater shows older 35mm and 16mm films, mostly plucked from Tarantino’s vast personal collection. Norwegian Company Creating Doomsday Vault to Preserve Music Recordings

Starting next spring, a Norweigian company will begin housing some of the world’s most important music recordings in a doomsday vault located between Norway and the North Pole. Oslo-based Elire Management Group recently spoke with Billboard about their grand ambitions to preserve recordings varying from pop acts like the Beatles to Australian indigenous music for at least 1,000 years. Named the Global Music Vault, it will share the same safeguards as the Arctic World Archive and the Global Seed Vault, two preexisting facilities located underground in the Svalbard archipelago. As the financer of the project, Elire is currently negotiating with the Norwegian company Piql to use their PiqlFilm format, based on binary coding and high-density QR codes written onto special durable optical film. ...

Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard Sang Sparks Songs While Simulating Oral Sex for Musical Annette

Instead of pre-recording the songs in Annette, director Leos Carax had the actors perform every musical number live on set. This led to Adam Driver singing Sparks songs while simulating oral sex on his co-star Marion Cotillard, which honestly sounds like quite a mouthful. Via Insider, Cotillard dove into the deep end in a press packet for Cannes Film Festival, where Annette opened the festival today, July 6th. “On most classic musicals, you record your songs in advance and then you do playback on the set,” she said. “But there, Leos wanted everything to be completely live.” Obviously, this didn’t make the actors’ jobs easier. “It added to the complexity of the set: we found ourselves singing in very complicated positions, doing back-crawling or mimicking cunni...

Amen Dunes Releases New Single ‘Feel Nothing,’ Signs With Sub Pop

Amen Dunes, the project of rock-songwriter Damon McMahon, has shared a new single “Feel Nothing,” his first new song release since 2018. Additionally, the artist also inked a deal with Sub Pop. “Feel Nothing” combines hurt lyrics with a chill synth beat, bringing in a little more life around the four and a half minute mark which is said to represent the rhythm-heavy next chapter in Amen Dunes’ sound. On both ends of the listening spectrum, it is quite a cool creation that enlists Sleaford Mods and Panoram in its making. Listen to “Feel Nothing” below. [embedded content] Freedom, the last album release, was a breakthrough moment for McMahon. A remix of Freedom’s closing track “L.A.” was released in 2019 with London-based artist Westerman. But since then, fans had heard nothing from Amen Dun...

Jennifer Lopez Talks New Single ‘Cambia El Paso’ & Says She’s ‘Never Been Better’

She elaborated on the meaning behind the title of the summer dance anthem and how it reminds her of her 2012 Dance Club Songs No. 1 “Dance Again,” which features Pitbull and was co-written by Enrique Iglesias. She released the song shortly after her ex-husband Marc Anthony filed for divorce. “It is about change and it is about taking a step … when things don’t feel right,” she continued. “To me that represents joy, happiness, life. After my divorce, so many years ago now, but I did a song called ‘Dance Again’ that I kind of took from Enrique Iglesias. That was his song. And I was like, ‘This is my song. You have to let me do this song.’ And he was like, ‘That’s my song.’ And I was like, ...
