‘Framing Britney Spears’ & More Music Docs That Are Vying for 2021 Emmy Nods

Another music doc, Tina (HBO), about rock legend and survivor Tina Turner is also seen as a very likely nominee in the category, while still others are seen as having a reasonably good chance of receiving a nod: The Boy From Medellín, which follows musician J Balvin as he prepares for a concert in his hometown (Medellín, Colombia); The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, a look at the famed brother trio, of which Barry Gibb is the sole survivor; and The Go-Gos, a look at the iconic female rock band. The last two winners in the category — Leaving Neverland and The Apollo, about the legendary Harlem club — were both music docs, and both aired on HBO. Two other music docs have won in the category in the past decade: George Harrison: Living in the Material World, a...

What transpired next should surprise no one: another cover. But you probably weren’t expecting her to break out a 1990’s Cocteau Twins tune. “Now I’m gonna do a classic Miley — no, I’m not gonna show my titties are something — but I am gonna sing a song that no one fucking knows,” she said. “But you will know it after tonight. And I’ve seen the tweets — ‘Stop doing covers’ — but yet, somehow, ‘Jolene’ was requested. So one for me. This song is called ‘Heaven or Las Vegas’ for obvious reasons.” See Cyrus’s take on “Heaven or Las Vegas” by Cocteau ...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Al Pereira / Getty All the news about A Tribe Called Quest becoming the newest Hip-Hop entity to enter the world of NFT’s is flat-out false, says Ali Shaheed Muhammad in a fiery social media post that reveals another controversy concerning Hip-Hop and cryptocurrency. The DJ and producer was compelled to speak out at length after a Billboard article last week claimed that the iconic Hip-Hop group entered into a partnership with online music royalties marketplace Royalty Exchange to auction off a 1.5% share of the group’s sound recording royalties from their first five albums. This would be sold off as a non-fungible token (NFT). Dubbing the article as “Not Friggin True,” Muhammad decided to detail exactly why this move wasn’t approved by the group. “At the...

On July 30th, legendary voice of BBC Radio 1 Annie Mac will step away from her current role after a distinguished 17-year run.  The announcement, which Mac delivered in April, was met with surprise. However, she quickly qualified her intent was not to retire from music, or even from radio necessarily. “I will be coming back to radio broadcasting when the time is right,” Mac said at the time.  In more recent comments to Radio Times, Mac articulated a similar sentiment. “I love the BBC and hope at some point I can come back,” she said. “It’s not walking away from radio, it’s just walking away from that slot.” As for why she is departing, Mac attributes the move to a confluence of factors, but mainly suggests she’d prefer to have the time to...

Bad Bunny Unveils New Song “De Museo”: Stream

Bad Bunny reflects on the passage of time on his new song “De Museo.” This is the Puerto Rican star’s latest single, following “Yonaguni” from last month. “De Museo” is a laid-back trip through Latin trap, with Bad Bunny measuring the man he is now against the (less well-paid) man he used to be. “Pasa el tiempo y yo sigo aquí/ Un hermano no se traiciona, la familia nunca abandona,” he sings, which could be translated to, “Time passes and I’m still here/ A brother doesn’t betray, family never abandons.” He does catch himself aging, rapping, “El tiempo pasa, pasa y no se detiene/ Ya me estoy poniendo viejo y ayer era un nene” (“Time passes, it passes and it doesn’t stop/ I’m already getting old and yesterday I was a little kid”), but he doesn’t see himself as diminished. ...

While Howard’s story is not as sensational as that of Baskin’s second husband Don Lewis (who mysteriously disappeared in 1997), MacLachlan’s experience with the bizarre storytelling of Twin Peaks will certainly come in handy. Based on the podcast, Joe Exotic: Tiger King, the limited series will center around Carole Baskin, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (John Cameron Mitchell) is breeding and using his big cats for profit.
