Raffaella Carra, Iconic Italian Entertainer, Dies at 78

With often sexy costumes — daring by state TV standards in a country where the Vatican wields considerable influence — Carrà also was credited with helping Italian women be more confident with their bodies and their sexuality, once even baring her belly button during a TV performance. But she could also be devastatingly classy in her dress and manners. The La Repubblica newspaper wrote that she managed to pull off being provocative but still familiar and reassuring to millions of TV viewers. She also was considered an icon for gay fans due to her joyful performances. Her trademark bouncy, blond haircut and bangs — dubbed the helmet look — were imitated by many fans. TV magnate Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian premier, mourned Carrà’s passing, calling her “one of the symbols of Italian...

Amanda Kloots Pens Tribute to Husband Nick Cordero One Year After His Death

Amanda Kloots, wife of the late Broadway actor Nick Cordero, shared an emotional message on social media on Monday (July 5), a year after her husband died due to complications from COVID-19. Cordero was a Tony-nominated actor known for his work in Bullets Over Broadway, Waitress and A Bronx Tale the Musical. He died at age 41, following a grueling battle with the coronavirus. “Today hurts, there is no other way around it,” Kloots wrote on Instagram, where she posted a number of photos and video clips in Cordero’s memory. “One year ago you left us and became our angel in heaven. You were surrounded by so much love and Led Zeppelin playing on Spotify-no doubt that was your doing, not mine. What happened was unthinkable, losing you was my biggest fear. I used to tell y...

R. Kelly’s Lawyer Wants Trial Delayed Due to Jail Quarantine

Kelly, whose legal name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was placed in quarantine when he arrived at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on June 22 from Chicago, where he was being held on similar charges. Tuesday will mark 14 days since Kelly’s transfer to Brooklyn. “Robert is anxious to have his day in court; however not at the expense of his Sixth Amendment rights,” Cannick wrote, saying the request was not a delay tactic. Federal prosecutors hadn’t responded to Cannick’s request as of Monday night and declined to comment. Donnelly has yet to rule on the filing. Federal lockups have been quarantining transferred and newly incarcerated inmates since early in the COVID-19 pandemic as part of protocols to prevent the disease’s spread. Kelly, 54, is accused of leading an enterprise made...

The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft Pulls Out of UK Festival Over COVID-19 Restrictions

Richard Ashcroft has informed fans that he’s pulled out of his scheduled appearance at the UK’s Tramlines Festival because of the event’s government imposed COVID-19 restrictions. Tramlines announced last week that the full-capacity event, set for July 23rd-25th would be part of England’s Events Research Programme. That means the fest will be under certain restrictions to help the UK government test the safety of returning to full-scale events. Ashcroft is apparently not down with that, as the former Verve rocker has a standing “no ERP events” policy. “I had informed my agent months ago I wouldn’t be playing concerts with restrictions,” Ashcroft wrote in an Instagram post. “The status of the festival was one thing when I signed up for it, but, sadly was forced to become something else. It ...

The couple moved to Toronto and opened a variety store, but Morris died suddenly in 1965, leaving Mary with three children to raise on her own. JVNA Announces Completion of Anticipated Debut Album

Since breaking into the electronic scene in 2016, JVNA has stunned with her hard-hitting arrangements of melodic bass and original vocals. Matthew McConaughey Says “As a Country, We’re Basically Going Through Puberty” in 4th of July Speech

You’ll know Matthew McConaughey is seriously considering a Texas gubernatorial run when he gives an impassioned speech in front of the American flag. Well, happy 4th of July, because the Academy Award winner celebrated Independence Day with just such an address. In a video posted to his Twitter account, McConaughey wished the country a happy birthday by reminding everyone that we’re still a relatively young nation. “…Let’s admit that this last year, this trip around the sun, was also another head-scratcher,” he said. “But let’s also remember that we’re babies as a country. We’re basically going through puberty in comparison to other countries’ timelines, and we’re going to go through growing pains. We are going through growing pains.” McConaughey continued, “I believe we are an aspiration....

Bill Cosby Says the “Mainstream Media Are the Insurrectionists”

Despite only recently having his sexual assault conviction overturned due to a procedural technicality, Bill Cosby is wasting no time making batshit public statements again. While defending his former on-screen wife, Phylicia Rashad, after she was reprimanded for celebrating his release from prison, Cosby took things to a weird place by blaming the mainstream media for the January 6th insurrection. Upon Cosby’s release after serving two years of a potential 10 year sentence, Rashad tweeted, “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted — a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” Previously known as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, Rashad is now a dean at Howard University, and her current employer wasn’t thrilled with her applauding a man formerly labeled a sexually violent predator. ...

The singer and songwriter becomes just the ninth act to reach that double-figures atop the leaderboard. He joins Calvin Harris and Eminem on 10 No. 1 singles across their careers. Only Take That (12), Madonna (13), Cliff Richard and Westlife (14) and The Beatles (17) and Elvis (21) have more chart crowns. “Thank you so much for giving this era such a flying start,” he continues. “Loads more music on the way soon, but for now I’m gonna crack open a beer and toast to you lot.” “Bad Habits” is the third single to debut at No. 1 this year, following Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” in January and Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” in April.
