“Feeling like a bad b—- today,” she captioned the clip that has already amassed more than eight million views. In an interview with Billboard shortly before the release of her latest album Better Mistakes, the Grammy-nominated pop star described how self-acceptance also translates in her music. “During the process of this album, I’ve gotten to know myself really well, and the person that I am. And I’ve learned to accept that person, to accept her, flaws and all,” she said. “I think that’s the number one thing in life — the acceptance within yourself, your failures, the good parts and the bad parts.” Watch Rexha’s TikTok here. And on appeal, a New York appeals court stunned many legal observers and press advocates by agreeing that even though Dr. Luke is world famous and has worked with the industry’s biggest musicians, he’s a private figure who needn’t go so far as to have to demonstrate that Kesha was grossly irresponsible with her public accusation. But what has change the course of this case is how the state of New York recently passed a law intended to protect free speech from frivolous litigation. Thanks to the anti-SLAPP statute, there are now situations where private figures have to demonstrate actual malice to prevail. That would be in instances where free speech is exercised with respect to issues of public concern. During oral arguments today, the big question was whether New ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bennett Raglin / Getty Sunday night’s (June 27) 2021 BET Awards show was all about paying homage to the greats, especially for Zendaya’s very familiar red carpet dress once worn by Beyoncé many years ago. Buzzfeed chronicles the history of the original deep-plunging purple Versace dress, first worn in 2003 at the singer’s first-ever BET Awards show as a solo artist. If you remember, this is the seductive outfit worn during the legendary performance of her debut breakout single “Crazy In Love,” the first of many hits following her departure from the group Destiny’s Child. A new album from The Ophelias is on the horizon. The folksy quartet announced today that their next full-length, Crocus, is coming out on September 24th via Joyful Noise Recordings, and things are already looking promising: the lead single, “Neil Young on High”, includes backing vocals from Julien Baker. The Ohio band has also shared an accompanying music video inspired by everything from Twin Peaks to Renaissance paintings. The Ophelias recorded Crocus at a Masonic lodge that the band swears is haunted; naturally, the setting means the record bears some moodier, darker tones, channeling their influences from ‘60s singer-songwriters to Lilith Fair mainstays. “Neil Young on High” boasts all the major tenets of an Ophelias song, complete with soaring harmonies, a rootsy violin riff, and chug...

“Starting Line” discusses “missing various memories,” Hemmings explains in a statement. “You’re reflecting on your youth and all of the madness and craziness. It’s like you’re forgetting so many pieces of your life—not from vices or anything—but from the sheer volume. I had to figure out how to fill a lot of gaps for myself in a positive way. It’s the human condition to change everything up after so long.” The new release is lifted from Hemmings’ solo debut LP When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, due out Aug. 13. Hemmings and his 5SOS bandmates have climbed to the very top on multiple occasions. The band has landed three No. 1s on the Billboard 200 albums chart, a first for an Australian act to do so. Their hit “Youngblood” cracked the top 10 of the Hot 100 char...
DJ Cassidy then invited Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe star Ricky Bell to take a turn in the spotlight. The duo did not disappoint, performing “Mr. Telephone Man” together before Brown went solo on “My Prerogative” and Bell with “Poison.” While the crowd sipped on DeLeón Tequila cocktails, El DeBarge took a seat at the piano to sing his classics “All This Love” and “I Like It.” Later, El DeBarge played piano, Verdine White played bass and Philip Bailey sang during a rendition of “That’s the Way of the World” with Bailey taking a moment to praise El DeBarge. The trio also teamed to close the night with a mic drop moment in “September” and “Rhythm of the Night.” Treated to the intimate show were such guests as Jimmy Jam, WME partner Richard Weitz (with daughter Demi, son Aidan and wife Candi...
For his latest appearance Tuesday, Sheeran performed something a little more familiar, the “The A Team,” lifted from this 2011 album + (Plus). There were no loop pedals, and no bandmates either, as Sheeran hit the tender, decade-old tune on an acoustic guitar. Watch below. Sheeran’s gifts extend well behind music. He can also play a cowboy. Don’t believe it? The “Shape Of You” singer and Corden killed two hours for a fun spot where they trained to be cowboys. The pair stopped into Sunset Ranch Hollywood, where they got their hands dirty, worked a lasso and rode horses into the sunset while singing a Boyz II Men classic. Watch below.
