Swizz Beatz, D-Nice and More Honored at Fifth Annual Culture Creators Brunch

Accepting the Icon Award, Swizz exuded humility when speaking on his newest accolade. Fresh off a 17-hour flight from Saudi Arabia, he touched on the importance of learning more and remaining hungry even after noteworthy victories. “All though we might have the accolades, and we might have the track record, there’s always going to be somebody with a new idea that can reshape your whole future,” he said during his acceptance speech. “I want to continue to inspire and tell all the creators not to be scared.” Comedian Royale Watkins presented D-Nice with the Culture Creator Innovators Award for his impressive run last year. Lorde Says ‘Solar Power’ Isn’t a ‘Big Climate Change Record’

Her upcoming album may be titled Solar Power, but Lorde doesn’t want people to think it’s a grand statement about global warming. During a recent interview with the Guardian, she clarified that the project is not a “big climate change record.” “I’m not a climate activist, I’m a pop star. I stoke the fire of a giant machine, spitting out emissions as I go. There is a lot I don’t know,” the 24-year-old admitted. According to the article, there is one “protest song” on the album called “Fallen Fruit,” but Lorde would rather go the route actor Mark Rylance suggested, that artists should tell love stories about the climate. “The opposite has been proven not to work,” she said. “I do think these songs are love stories more than anything. But love is complicated.” Though Solar Power won...

Criticism of New Red Rocks Partnership Leads to Petition to Repeal Decibel Limit at Shows

Ahead of Kygo‘s return to the stage for the first time in 18 months, Red Rocks unveiled a partnership that ruffled some feathers among some of the iconic amphitheater’s loyal following. Red Rocks’ Twitter account announced that the world-renowned venue would be rendering the services of Mixhalo, a mobile app which streams soundboard audio at studio level quality. The tweet suggested that concert-goers in rows 40 and above bring wired headphones to the show in order to listen to the concert from their phone while onsite.  The idea of wearing headphones at a live concert did not sit well with fans. Additionally, many quickly connected the dots and saw this announcement as an attempt on the part of Red Rocks management to keep the overall sound low. “This is so la...

Beabadoobee Brings ‘Last Day on Earth’ to Fallon

To celebrate the release of her latest EP, Our Extended Play, Beabadoobee performed the album’s single “Last Day on Earth” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When she originally released the song, the UK-based singer-songwriter explained its meaning in a statement: “’Last Day On Earth’ is about all the things I would have done had I known we were going into a lockdown and the world was going to change the way it has. It was written shortly after the first main lockdown and lyrically it’s me reflecting on how it would feel if we all knew ahead of time what was going to happen. All the things I would have done if I knew it was the last day of our old normality.” This performance mirrors that epic party she would’ve thrown. Beabadoobee transformed a studio space into every teen’s...

Marilyn Manson to Surrender to Police on Warrant for Alleged Assault

Marilyn Manson is set to turn himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department on a New Hampshire warrant for his arrest, stemming from an alleged assault in which the singer is accused of repeatedly spitting on a videographer during a concert in 2019. The incident is not related to the allegations of sexual assault brought against Manson by numerous women in recent months. According to the Boston Globe and Los Angeles Times, Manson has reached an agreement with the police department in Guilford, New Hampshire, to surrender to the LAPD at a prearranged date, at which time he will be booked and go through the bail process. He’ll then be ordered to appear at a New Hampshire court for arraignment, likely in August. The incident in question occurred at Manson’s August 18, 2019 concert at the Ba...

beabadoobee Performs “Last Day On Earth” on Fallon: Watch

Celebrating the release of her new EP Our Extended Play, beabadoobee appeared as the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night. The UK singer-songwriter (and our 2020 Rookie of the Year) performed the jangly single “Last Day On Earth”, turning a studio space into a teen’s dream party with the help from a few extras — and a cameo from Simon Pegg. Keeping in line with beabadoobee’s early 2000s aesthetic, the set of her “Last Day On Earth” performance felt straight out of an episode of Lizzie McGuire. As she perused the set with her microphone in hand, she swung by a DJ booth, jumped on a bed with a crew of friends, and exchanged a handshake with Pegg. Check it out below. Our Extended Play EP, which beabadoobee made in collaboration with members of the 1975, was ...

Gotham’s Wealthiest Man Drives an Old Mercedes-Maybach Concept Car?

Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne (and presumably Batman) in the upcoming film The Flash. Whether the Caped Crusader’s famous Batmobile from the 1989 and 1992 movies Batman and Batman Returns makes a cameo in the forthcoming superhero flick remains under wraps.  That said, it seems as though Keaton’s Bruce Wayne will tool about in an extraordinary vehicle of his own: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept car the German automaker revealed during Monterey Car Week in 2017. At least that’s what film buff Grace Randolph claims. Randolph tweeted out images of Keaton filming on The Flash set, including an image of the massive Mercedes convertible (presumably wearing a detachable hardtop). “This is [Keaton’s] car”, she...

The Ford Maverick Has an Appropriate Namesake in the ‘70s Compact Car

Put the 1970 Ford Maverick next to a 2022 Maverick, and it’s nigh impossible to see any through line. The original is a strange mishmash of an archaic idea of what an economy car should be, floating in the stylistic space between the subcompact (and much-maligned) Pinto and the sporty (but portlier) Mustang. The successor? A compact unibody pickup that shares its bones with the svelte Escape and brawny Bronco Sport. In the sheetmetal, there’s not much to link them. But the ideas that birthed the original Maverick seems, to us, to be equally applicable to the new one. Here’s the pitch: an affordable, practical compact car with some flair, serving to replace the Falcon in its role as the volume leader in the Ford range. The Falcon was in a sales slump for a variety of reaso...

Marilyn Manson Will Surrender to LA Authorities on New Hampshire Arrest Warrant

According to the report, Manson could be arraigned on the charges in New Hampshire’s Laconia District Court later this summer. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Manson’s attorney for comment. In February of this year, Evan Rachel Wood named Manson, whom she met when she was 18 and was once briefly engaged to, as her alleged abuser, calling him a “dangerous man.” In a statement posted to her Instagram account, the actress wrote, “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander or blackmail.” Four other women also came forward with abuse claims. At the time, Manson denied the allegations in a statement posted to his social media account. An investigat...

Justice’s Gaspard Augé Calls Justin Bieber’s ‘Justice’ Album Art ‘A Very Conscious Rip-Off’

“Though Bieber is from Canada, his actions fit this mindset of American hegemony: ‘Oh well, it’s just a small band from France, I’m sure we can take their name, nobody will care,'” said Augé. Billboard reached out to a representative for Bieber for comment on Saturday. Previously, Rolling Stone reported that, according to Justice’s management, Bieber’s legal team did “reject” the original cease-and-desist letter. The cease-and-desist letter obtained by Rolling Stone read, “Your use of the Mark is illegal. You have not received permission from Justice to utilize the Mark. Moreover, Bieber’s work is in no way affiliated with, supported by, or sponsored by Justice. Such use of the Mark is not only illegal, but likely to dec...
