Lucy Dacus Channels Classic Films With “Brando” Performance on Kimmel: Watch

Lucy Dacus’ third album, Home Video, is out this Friday, and the singer-songwriter celebrated release week with a remote musical guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Performing her latest single “Brando” from the Virginia Repertory Theatre, Dacus aptly brought an old Hollywood style to complement the track’s classic film references. Complete with sequined dresses, bowties, and a dance routine that would make Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers proud, Dacus’ performance of “Brando” begins with a black-and-white filter that bursts into color just in time for the song’s climax. With the vintage setting of the theatre as their backdrop, Dacus, her band, and her dancers feel like they’re lifted straight from a 1940s film. Watch the clip below. “Brando” is the fourth and final preview we get o...

The Strokes Tease New Song “Starting Again” in Maya Wiley Campaign Ad: Watch

Tuesday, June 22nd is New York City’s mayoral primary, and The Strokes are hoping to jam their way to a better world by teasing the new song “Starting Again” in an ad for progressive candidate Maya Wiley. Throughout the election, the New York rockers have been wildin’ out for Wiley, performing their first-ever unplugged set as a fundraiser on her behalf and following that with NYC’s first full-capacity indoor concert alongside fellow Wiley backers John Mulaney, Blood Orange, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Despite these famous fans, Wiley’s candidacy has struggled to gain traction, with recent polling putting her in fourth place behind Eric Adams, Andrew Yang, and Kathryn Garcia. However, NYC’s use of ranked-choice voting means that if she is the second- or third-choice candidate f...

Lorde Details New Album Solar Power and 2022 World Tour

Enjoy your Disney alums who don’t know how to drive and your butyraceous K-pop overlords, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lorde. The Kiwi superstar has announced that her new album Solar Power arrives August 20th, and she’ll be promoting it on a massive 2022 world tour. Four long years have passed since Lorde’s stellar 2017 statement Melodrama, and over that time the demand for her particular brand of intimacy, authenticity, and ear worms has only grown. Earlier this month she teased the title track, which was our Song of the Week, as well as the accompanying artwork, which challenged the old expression “where the sun don’t shine.” Like its lead single, the album Solar Power was produced by Jack Antonoff. As the title implies, this 12-track LP will reflect...

David Guetta’s Net Worth Skyrockets Past $150 Million Following Sale of Music Catalog

David Guetta made major headlines this week with the acquisition of his recorded music catalog by Warner Music. Industry sources estimate the sale came out to more than $100 million, translating to a skyrocketing of the artist’s net worth. Previously estimated to be around $75 million, his accumulated assets have now doubled in valuation to more than $150 million, Digital Music News reports.  To put that into perspective, the net worth of Skrillex sits around $50 million, Steve Aoki at $95 million, and Daft Punk at $140 million, with Calvin Harris coming in on top at an estimated $300 million, according to Wealthy Gorilla.  David Guerin Bask While signing away the rights of his catalog to Warner will decrease his earnings in song royalties, Guetta will still ...

XI battle rap event, Drake confirmed that the full-length LP drop before the end of summer, but he didn’t give out a specific date. Certified Lover Boy, Drake’s sixth album, was originally scheduled for release in January, but was pushed back due to his rehab from surgery. To tide fans over, Billboard’s Artist of the Decade shared the three-song Scary Hours 2 project in March, featuring guest appearances by Lil Baby and Rick Ross. Drizzy also guested with Lil Wayne on Nicki M...

Lorde Talks ‘Solar Power’ and the Origins of its ‘Joyful,’ Slightly ‘Feral’ Artwork

The Kiwi artist is something of a rare bird, keeping a low profile since the 2018 tour in support of her 2017 sophomore album Melodrama. On Tuesday (June 21), Lorde stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to break the drought with a rare live interview. At the top, Colbert reminded his guest of their previous meeting in 2019, in the backyard of NZ prime minister Jacinda Ardern. He pranked her with bogus peanut brittle, and she hasn’t forgotten. To his question on whether all New Zealander’s know each other — a country with a population of about 5 million — Lorde was diplomatic in her response. “I think most of them do. I am kinda shy so I only know a handful, but I know the really good ones.” The album Solar Power is slated to drop Aug. 20, and is the followup to 2017’s M...

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’ ‘Carnage’ Challenges For U.K. Chart Crown

Cave, the ARIA Hall of Fame inducted singer and songwriter, and Ellis, the dynamic Dirty Three violinist, have been bandmates in the Bad Seeds and Grinderman, and they’ve jointly composed film scores. Carnage is their first entire album of works as a duo, and it reenters the midweek U.K. chart at No. 2, just behind Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour (Geffen), which lifts 2-1. Cave has never landed a No. 1 in the U.K., his adopted home. His chart best is a No. 2 for 2016’s Skeleton Tree, one of six Top 10 efforts across his career. Also new to the Official Chart Update is BRITs Rising Star winner Griff, whose debut mixtape One Foot In Front Of The Other (Warner Records) bows at No. 4. It’s the most downloaded album of the week so far, the OCC reports. Completing the Top 5 is veteran singer and songwrite...
