Bridgers also performed “Kyoto” on the show, which aired on YouTube. Most of the performances were pre-taped, but Fantastic Negrito performed “Chocolate Samurai” live. Other performances were by Arlo Parks (“Hope”), Black Pumas (“Colors”), Mavis Staples (“Who Told You That”), Lido Pimienta (“Te Queria”), Lecrae (“Drown”), Yuna (“Don’t Blame It on Love”) and Stax Academy Rhythm Section (medley). Staples received the independent icon award during the program. Staples, 81, fronted The Staple Singers, the famed gospel-turned-R&B family group, and has gone on to a significant solo career. Staples’ Grammy nominations span nearly the entire history of that awards show. She received her first, with The Staple Singers, in 1961 (the fourth year of the show) and her most recent this past year. Th...

If you looked carefully at the footage from the Foo Fighters show in suburban Los Angeles on Tuesday, you could see on drummer Taylor Hawkins’ kit a photo of one of the Bee Gees. Now, we (sorta) know why. Today, the Foo Fighters announced they’ll be releasing a (sorta) Bee Gees cover album for Record Store Day on July 17. Billed as “the Dee Gees,” the group’s album (aptly titled HAIL SATIN!) will feature one side of Bee Gees tunes with the other compiled of live versions of songs from their recently released Medicine at Midnight (which you can read our review of here). Foo Fighters are slated to play at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday night, marking the city’s first arena show since the COVID-19 shutdown last year. This is also the kickoff of the band’s 26th-anniversa...

According to VRT News, the mayors of Boom and Rumst have refused a permit to host the massive music festival, which is currently planned for August 27-29 and September 3-5. At a press conference, they reportedly cited “risks to public safety and health” as the impetus for the rejection. Organizers called the decision “a sledgehammer blow” after Tomorrowland—one of the world’s most popular electronic dance music festivals—had already been postponed due to the impact of COVID-19. “We haven’t had a festival for two years, which is very hard both financially and emot...
