It has been a bumpy road for the Atari VCS, but we are finally here. The unique system that serves as both part-desktop PC, part-retro console and takes its cues from the classic Atari 2600 can now be purchased via Atari’s website, Best Buy, and Micro Center, promising a Spring 2021 shipping date. If you check GameStop’s website, you can’t purchase the console, but it does say the Atari VCS will ship on July 2. We first spoke about the console back in 2017. Then, it was called the AtariBox before getting a rebrand in 2018 and renamed the Atari VCS along with an IndieGoGo campaign that allowed people to back the console’s development in June 2018. The Killers have joined forces with Bruce Springsteen to re-record their song “A Dustland Fairytale”. This new version, simply titled “Dustland”, was debuted by The Killers and Springsteen during a Wednesday morning appearance on The Today Show. The song is also available to stream on DSPs. This marks the first time The Killers and Springsteen have recorded together, which is surprising given just how indebted the band’s music is to The Boss’ (see: 2006’s Sam’s Town). As The Killers’ Brandon Flowers recounted in a statement posted to social media, the collaboration came about after Springsteen reached out to him via text. “I start getting some texts from a number I don’t have marked in my phone. ‘Watching Glastonbury. You guys have become one hellacious live band my brother! Love the gold ...
Banks is back and turning up the heat with her new single “The Devil”. The R&B singer’s last album proper was 2019’s III, and she followed that in 2020 with the live EP Live and Stripped. As she confirmed in a new press release, “The Devil” is the first sinful taste of a larger project coming soon. Over a bass line as dark and deep as the pit, Banks whispers, “Someone write my new name down.” The song is about metamorphosis, and the lyrics find a slinky power in embracing the darkness within. She sings,”Way down I go/ Got a one-way ticket and the Devil waiting/ Call from down low/ Naive, I know.” Related Video In a statement, Banks said, “’The Devil’ is about being stronger than the demons that haunt you. About rebirth and transformation into the forces of nature we were...
Brand purity and authenticity seem to be in peril. At least in the auto industry. Some examples stand out as being notably egregious: Four-door cars are widely being labeled as coupes; signature design elements, such as BMW’s Hofmeister kink and kidney grille, are losing their once traditional forms; and SUVs are morphing into lifted sedans. The AMG brand is undergoing an identity crisis, as well. Whereas it once adhered to a “one man, one engine” principle, its badge is now displayed on cars powered by mass-manufactured powerplants. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT43 4-Door is one such car; it looks the part of a super-sedan, but its engine’s specifications are identical to those of the Car of the Year-winning Mercedes-Benz E450, which is positioned as a lesser,...
Lordstown Motors appears to be shifting chairs on the deck of the Titanic. The electric truck startup kept a scheduled media event one day after CEO Steve Burns and chief financial officer Julio Rodriguez resigned after an investigation by the company’s board. The virtual meeting with the Automotive Press Association out of Detroit started with a statement by Angela Strand, the lead independent director who has been appointed executive chairman. Lordstown is committed to transparency and plans to start limited production in late September, with no disruptions in day-to-day operations envisioned, Strand says. Then president Rich Schmidt and chief engineer Darren Post proceeded with an upbeat presentation about the virtues of the Lordstown Endurance electric pickup, which the company s...
