After taking a little break from aweing the world with her drum covers, Nandi Bushell has been on a hot streak lately. After absolutely crushing Slipknot’s “Duality” (in a Jay Weinberg mask no less) a few weeks ago, the 11-year-old wunderkind shared a cover of Linkin Park’s “Numb” on Twitter. “I discovered @linkinpark [this] week!” she captioned the post. “So many great songs! So this is #numetal! I like the keyboards and the DJ scratching. #chesterbennington had such an incredible voice. He sang with real #power. Loving your work” Her playing caught the attention of the band, which gave its stamp of approval by quoting her tweet and writing, “Wow, this is awesome” The 11-year-old then responded to their response. “Yes! Wow! This is amazing!!! @linkinpark thank you so much! Your music is s...
For years, Excision and Dion Timmer have been releasing a steady flow of collaborations. With the dubstep titan bringing his overwhelmingly heavy sound to the table, his contributions have meshed well with Timmer’s neon-soaked, futuristic take on bass music. And together, they’ve created a number of fan-favorite pieces. Now, they’re reuniting once again for an upcoming single with Nashville-based, singer-songwriter Alexis Donn. Announced across their respective social media pages, the unreleased track will be called “Salvation.” Unfortunately for the impatient readers out there, a preview of the upcoming single has not been shared. However, Excision has teased that the song might make an appearance in a DJ set this weekend, so fans should s...
Tycho has teased the announcement of a new curated festival. Currently slated to perform at Red Rocks and North Coast Music Festival this July and September, respectively, Tycho’s upcoming fest will be the first time he has tried his hand at running his own large-scale event. The set debuted last week in St. Helena, California with separate sunset and moonrise shows. According to Tycho’s social media, it was the first performance of its kind in over 10 years, merging the artist’s musical alias with his photographic and design project, known as ISO50. In the minute-long clip, Montalvo is seen surrounded by her fellow original Broadway cast members who were invited to watch the film during a vocal session. At the end, Montalvo covers her face with excitement as stars Karen Olivo, Krysta Rodriguez, Mandy Gonzalez and Janet Decal join in the celebration. In the film version of In the Heights, Montalvo sings her line “Nina, Mira” in the song “Breathe.” Montalvo’s Broadway credits also include On Your Feet, while her off-Broadway and national tour credits include Giant and Flashdance. Most recently, she performed in the Broadway production of Mrs. Doubtfire. Her last screen credits were Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of In the Heights and Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Sto...
Like all 2021 Warner Bros. titles, In the Heights is debuting simultaneously on HBO Max because of the challenges posed by the pandemic. It is impossible to know exactly how much business that is taking away in terms of box office grosses, but the feel-good pic may be more impacted than other genres since musicals often play to older adults, and especially older females. Consumers over 35 are the most reluctant to return to the multiplex, according to NRG surveys. At the same, musicals have a decidedly mixed track record at the office. The hope now is that glowing reviews and strong exits lead to increased grosses. “We’re incredibly proud of this movie, and hope audiences find it over time,” says Warners president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein. Per normal practice, HBO Max isn’t ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Miami-Dade PD / Miami-Dade PD Polo G has been arrested for allegedly attacking a police officer in Miami. However, the rapper’s mother claims her son was racially profiled. The Chicago rapper was reportedly arrested early Saturday morning after leaving an album release party. Polo G was a passenger in a vehicle that got pulled over by the police—and somehow the stop ended with him getting into an all-out fight with a cop. Polo G’s mom, Stacia Mac, who is also his manager, took to Twitter to offer up their side of the story. “None of these charges would be possible if the POLICE did not make contact with my son Polo G!!!,” she wrote on Saturday (June 12). “He was NOT the driver. He was a PASSENGER in a professionally licensed vehicle with security. He was ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: JOHANNES EISELE / Getty You just knew there had to be more to this story. Safaree Samuels and Erica Mena are getting divorced, and word is that the latter getting another woman pregnant is what sparked the sudden split. Our peeps at Madame Noire reported the tea: Apparently, the more to the story has come to the light. According to The Neighborhood Talk, the reason Erica might not want Safaree in the room is because he apparently impregnated another woman, according to a source close to the couple. That was all the information they shared but given the sudden split, after the couple had that photoshoot and Erica was defending their union, it could make sense. Not to mention, we’ve all seen the back and forth between Mena and Samuels, including S...
Another Sunday means another performance from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp and singer Toyah Willcox. The married couple are once again joined by mysterious second guitarist Sidney Jake for a cover of the Eurythmics classic “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”. As she’s done in the past, Toyah sports nothing but a sheer top and body paint, but apparently this one was a bit too revealing. Perhaps she got an alert from YouTube upon uploading the video, or decided to censor the clip herself, but either way there’s strategically placed pixelation throughout the performance. And while Toyah’s skimpy outfits often take center stage in the couple’s weekly “Sunday Lunch” series of cover songs, her voice shines on the Eurythmics cover, as she delivers a nice clean version of the 1983 single. As ...
But what about the old Ranger? The last holdout among truly small body-on-frame pickups—Tacoma went midsize for 2005, the S-10 bowed out in favor of the larger Colorado for 2004, and the second-generation Frontier also grew for 2004—the compact Ranger held on until 2011. Unlike, say, Nissan, Ford declined to tap its global, midsize Ranger as a replacement, instead gently pushing buyers into low-priced versions of its full-size (and more profitable) F-150 range. Now, ten years later and in a regulatory and consumer environment that is putting pressure on fleet emissions and economy, the compact truck is back. While it’s much, much different than the Ranger, it’s close enough in size to draw some interesting comparisons. How Big Are The Maverick, Ranger, and Old Ranger? At a hair...
