Kim Jong-un Decries K-Pop as “Vicious Cancer” in Crackdown Against South Korean Pop Culture

Kim Jong-un has become increasingly concerned with the influence of South Korean pop culture over the past several months as K-pop videos and K-dramas have become more accessible to young North Koreans. He’s now taken drastic steps to stamp out the “vicious cancer” in an attempt to retain his grip on North Korean society. This includes harsher punishments for possession of the illegal material or even imitating culture from the South, according to The New York Times. Fearing that it corrupts young North Koreans’ “attire, hairstyles, speeches, and behaviors,” Kim has upped the punishment for people caught watching or possessing South Korean entertainment to five to 15 years in labor camps. The previous maximum sentence for such crimes was five years of hard labor, according to the Seoul-bas...

Police: No invasion of miscreants into Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has described as untrue the reports that miscreants have invaded Ado Ekiti, the state capital. The state’s Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo, who disclosed that the information was false, said it was intended to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the town. A video had circulated online on Friday that some Fulani-Hausa men were found around Agric Olope Housing Estate, in Ado Ekiti, in possession of dangerous weapons including AK-47 rifles with the intention to unleash terror on the community. Mobayo, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, and made available to reporters on Saturday, explained that the news was fake as the men were in the town to execute a building project, warned peddlers against spreading false information. He ...

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ greatest hits album Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021) arrived on Friday, and to celebrate Gallagher and his band visited CBS This Morning’s Saturday Session. He performed two solo songs (“Holy Mountain” and “We’re On Our Way Now”) and surprised fans with a rendition of “Don’t Look Back in Anger” off Oasis’ sophomore album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? Aside from the performance, Gallagher also chatted with CBS This Morning’s Anthony Mason about his decade-long solo career. “Well, I came out of a band with a very strong identity, a very famous band, a band that fans really, really loved, and I didn’t want my solo career to be a sugar-free version of that. Like Diet Oasis,” Gallagher explained. “I’m allowed to work at my own pace, I’m not wr...

When Foo Fighters announced their 26th anniversary tour earlier this month, we knew it was only a matter of time before they revealed a date in their hometown of Los Angeles. Well, that day has come — and the show is going to be one to remember (if you’re lucky enough to snag a ticket). The Foos are playing at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California on June 15. Aaron Carter Knocked Out in Celebrity Boxing Match

Last we heard from former child pop star Aaron Carter, he was doing porn. On Saturday night, the 33-year-old Carter briefly resurfaced to participate in a celebrity boxing match against former NBA player Lamar Odom. I say “briefly,” because it took Odom all of two minutes to knock out Carter. In Carter’s defense, at 6-foot-10 Odom stands a full foot taller than Carter and is more than 65 pounds heavier. As soon as the two appeared next to one another in the ring, it was evident Odom would have no trouble putting down the noted face tattoo and gun enthusiast. That said, Carter talked a whole lot of shit prior to the fight, likening himself to Apollo Creed and promising to drop Odom “like a bat habit, and I meant that.” Related Video Once the match began, Odom allowed Carter to flail his arm...

NBC Shuts Down Slip ‘N Slide Game Show After “Explosive Diarrhea” Outbreak

Well, here’s one way to get out of work: production on NBC’s upcoming game show, Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide, has been put on pause indefinitely after an outbreak of “explosive diarrhea” occurred on set earlier this month. Now, that’s what we call a shitshow. Filming officially shut down on June 2nd, when producers were first made aware that a crew member had tested positive for giardia, a tiny parasite that causes a diarrheal disease called giardiasis. While test samples of a well, pond, slide pool, water truck, and restroom sinks all came back negative for giardia, additional results found on June 10th that giardia had been in the set’s surrounding area. It’s unclear exactly how many people were affected by the disease, but a source told TheWrap that up to 40 crew members fell violently ill s...
