In honor of what’s now their 26th anniversary, the Foos announced a handful of tour dates that begin in July and will span a few weeks in the middle of the country. “Having confirmed their appearances atop the 2021 lineups of Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Bottlerock, Foo Fighters are answering the burning question of “Are they doing any of their own shows?” with a resounding FUCK YES,” a statement says a bit more succinctly. Taylor Swift’s ‘Evermore’ Breaks Modern-Era Record for Biggest Vinyl Album Sales Week

Evermore’s record-breaking vinyl sales add to the great music-on-vinyl comeback story for the once-dormant format. 2020 marked the single-largest year for U.S. vinyl album sales in MRC Data history (27.54 million copies) and the 15th consecutive year of growth for vinyl (up 46.2%). Further, vinyl LPs accounted for 27% of all albums sold in 2020. Vinyl albums were once the dominant format for album purchases in the U.S., up until the early 1980s. After that, cassettes took hold until the early 1990s, when the CD format flourished and became the leading format for album sales. Evermore, again, was initially issued to streaming services and as a commercial digital album on Dec. 11, 2020, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s CD, cassette and vinyl editions followe...

Patrick Sky, Folk Artist Who Recorded Controversial ‘Songs That Made America Famous,’ Dies at 80

Sky settled in New York City in the 1960s and cut his self-titled debut album in 1965. Patrick Sky opened with what would become a folk staple, “Many a Mile.” As his satirical edge took shape, Sky recorded his fifth album LP Songs That Made America Famous in March 1971, a set said to be so confrontational, it was rejected by multiple record labels. The album didn’t see the light of day for another two years. Adelphi Records president Gene Rosenthal wasn’t scared off. He spotted its “redeeming social content” and agreed to issue the record, complete with its controversial title, cover art and label design, a bare-butt parody of the Apple Corps logo. Indeed, a link to the record on the Adelphi Records website warns readers of its lyrical contents, which “are an aggressive breach ...

Eurovision 2021 Reports 183 Million Viewers, Solid Gains Online

Importantly, the popular song competition was a hit with young audiences. The 15–24-year-old demographic was up 7 percentage points against the corresponding data from 2019. More than half that age group (52.8%) tuned in on TV. Eurovision also spread the cheer online. In the week leading up to the final, some 50.6 million unique viewers logged onto the official YouTube channel, up 28% on 2019, with fans connected from 234 countries. Not surprisingly, the 18–34-year-olds accounted for most of the live views (71%), and Eurovision was a buzz topic on social media, with nearly 5 million Eurovision-related tweets sent on the night of the Grand Final. During Eurovision week, the official Eurovision social accounts — across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok — generated 14 millio...

Lil Loaded, Dallas Rapper Behind ‘6locc 6a6y,’ Dies at 20

“dopest fanbase on earth,” he’d written on his last post on Instagram on May 27, when he proudly shared the news about “6locc 6a6y” being certified gold. In 2020, Robertson had been arrested on a murder charge in connection to the shooting of 18-year-old Khalil Walker. According to the Dallas Morning News, in February he was indicted on a lesser charge of manslaughter. At the time, his attorney told the local news outlet that the two were friends and the incident involved “no malice.” Robertson was born in San Bernardino, California, before moving to Dallas when he was a kid. Taylor Swift’s evermore Breaks Best Vinyl Sales Week Record in Just Three Days

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-31T20:43:25+00:00“>May 31, 2021 | 4:43pm ET Taylor Swift is your new Queen of Vinyl. The vinyl edition of the pop star’s latest (all original) full-length, evermore, just broke the record for best sales week — and it only took three days to do it. As Billboard reports, initial data from sales tracking company MRC Data shows that evermore moved 40,000 vinyl units between its May 28th release and May 30th. Considering that number is obviously expected to grow ahead of the week’s official close on June 3rd, that means Swift will easily snap the record previously held by Jack White’s Lazaretto. It took White’s LP the full week of June 7th-13th, 2014 to reach the same 4...
