<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-31T16:14:18+00:00“>May 31, 2021 | 12:14pm ET Morrissey is set to release a new album called Bonfire of Teenagers. “The worst year of my life concludes with the best album of my life,” Morrissey humbly declares in a statement posted to his website on Monday. The album was recently completed in Los Angeles and features artwork by Liam Lynch (see below). There are 11 tracks in total, including questionable titles like “Ha Ha Harlem” and “Kerouac Crack”. Bonfire of Teenager doesn’t yet have a release date, as Morrissey is currently in search of a label. Technically, he’s both rich enough and somehow still popular enough to be able to self-release a record successfully, but ...

Gorilla Glue Girl Files Cease and Desist Over “My Hair, It Don’t Move” Sample in Viral Song

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-31T17:39:58+00:00“>May 31, 2021 | 1:39pm ET At the start of this year, TikTok user Tessica Brown became a viral sensation after using Gorilla Glue clear adhesive spray to hold down her braided ponytail, unaware that it would cause permanent damage. Her original video was both a plea for help and a cautionary warning, but the internet turned it into a meme-turned-shaming session. Thankfully, Brown was eventually helped by a plastic surgeon free of charge, but now she’s up against the next worst thing: a stranger profiting from her pain by way of a song remix sample. Someone named Cocoa Brown has uploaded a song to streaming services called “Bad Idea (Gorilla Glue Girl Remix)”. As ...

Simon Cowell Pulls Out of X Factor Israel

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-31T18:28:26+00:00“>May 31, 2021 | 2:28pm ET Simon Cowell will no longer be a judge on the upcoming season of X Factor Israel. The longtime panel member has canceled his scheduled appearance on Season 4 “for his own reasons,” a spokesperson for the show’s network, Reshet, told Variety on Sunday. Last year, the veteran producer and reality TV icon signed a deal to star as one of the judges on the next season of X Factor Israel, marking his first time ever judging an international X Factor outside of the US and UK. He was supposed to start shooting this summer, but now those filming plans will carry on without him. Reshet has yet to say if Cowell will play another part in the produc...

Forever No. 1: B.J. Thomas’ ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head’

“When the film was released, I was highly critical — how did the song fit with the film? There was no rain,” Redford told USA Today in 2019, a half-century later. “At the time, it seemed like a dumb idea. How wrong I was.” “Raindrops…” was hardly the most sophisticated song that Burt Bacharach and Hal David — the duo who’d penned many of the most pristine and affecting pop songs of the late ’50s and ’60s, including most of Dionne Warwick’s signature smashes — ever wrote. But it may have been their most universal, a song that everybody who has ever had a bad day or a rough patch could relate to. David’s lyric has a dash of whimsical humor (“So, I just did me some talkin’ to the sun/ And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done...

Ruido Fest Organizer on Returning After a Year Away: ‘I Never Had Any Doubt That We’d Come Back’

The summer festival scene seems to be more optimistic than last year. Prior to Ruido Fest, Chicago’s Lollapalooza will also make its return in full capacity from July 29-Aug. 1 at Grant Park. It will mark one of the first major North American festivals to occur since the pandemic began in March 2020.   While those attending Lollapalooza will have to produce full COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results, for now, Ruido Fest producers say they will follow city, state and CDC guidelines but will not require proof of vaccination for entrance.  “In terms of requiring people to do things, it’s tough in a society that praises freedom to enact things on people,” says Max Wagner, co-founder of Ruido Fest and owner of event productio...

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox Bring Their Love On Stage at Indy 500 Weekend Concert

The Barstool 500 concert, which also featured a DJ set by Diplo, was held in conjunction with the 2021 Indianapolis 500 race on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Machine Gun Kelly noted on social media that the celebrity couple had just celebrated their one-year anniversary. “She said ‘i love you’ one year ago today,” he tweeted. The pair reportedly met on the set of their upcoming film, Midnight in the Switchgrass, in March 2020, which was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fox’s ex-husband, actor Brian Austin Green, confirmed on his podcast that the pair split in Dec. 2019. She later appeared in the May 2020 video for MGK’s “My Bloody Valentine” in which she played his heavy-handed girlfriend. Ever since, the pair have made their love pub...

Morrissey to Release 11-Song LP, Bonfire of the Teenagers

“The worst year of my life concludes with the best album of my life,” Morrissey said, pulling no punches in the announcement of his new album, Bonfire of the Teenagers. Moz announced the 11-track LP on his website, saying that the record had been completed in Los Angeles with no release date set. The reason why there’s no release date?  “Morrissey is unsigned. The album is available to the highest (or lowest) bidder,” it said on his site. The singer revealed that BMG had dropped him in a November 2020 update on his website, titled “BMG Dumps Morrissey,” noting, “BMG have appointed a new executive who does not want another Morrissey album. Instead, the new BMG Executive has announced new plans for ‘diversity’ within BMG’s artist roster, and all projected BMG Morrissey re...

Land Rover to New Bronco: Welcome to the Party

So we asked Joe Eberhardt, president and CEO of Land Rover North America, what impact the return of the Bronco will have on the new Defender 90. The longer Defender 110 was reintroduced to North America in June 2020 after a 23-year hiatus. The smaller Defender 90 was supposed to follow last fall with 500 units of the 2020 First Edition but when the pandemic impacted production, it was delayed to February and pushed into the 2021 model year. The Bronco has seen repeated delays, as well, due to supply issues related to the pandemic. The spring launch was delayed to late summer but models with the Sasquatch package, manual transmission, and some hardtop roof options are being pushed into the 2022 model year. Olivia Rodrigo Smashes Records En Route to U.K. Chart Double

That’s also the biggest opening week for a debut album in two years, since Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent dropped in May 2019. Sour racks up 45.7 million track streams over the seven-day cycle — or 30,945 streaming-equivalent sales — for the most first-week streams for a debut album, eclipsing Capaldi’s record, according to the OCC. The last artist to score the double with their debut was Sam Smith, who achieved the feat six years ago with2015’s In The Lonely Hour and “Lay Me Down”. The big numbers keep coming, as “Good 4 U” gives Rodrigo her second leader following “Drivers License” back in January. “Good 4 U” generates 117,000 chart sales in seven days — including 13.5 million str...

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Good 4 U’ Is On Track to Extend U.K. Chart Reign

Olivia Rodrigo should extend her stay atop the Official U.K. Singles Chart for at least another week with “Good 4 U” (Geffen). The teenage U.S. artist and actor last Friday (May 28) set a handful of new records as her debut album Sour opened at No. 1 and “Good 4 U” climbed to the top of the national singles survey, for her second leader. Rodrigo’s latest hit single rules the First Look chart, which ranks tracks based on the first 48 hours of sales and streaming activity, while her second single “Déjà Vu” (No. 5) and her debut “Drivers License” (No. 6) are impacting the Top 10.
