McLaren is offering a windshield on the exclusive Elva roadster for customers who prefer a physical screen. Keep in mind, the Elva’s core appeal was tied up in the fact it lacked a windshield in the first place, so consider this a weird development. This newly windscreened version of the Elva eliminates McLaren’s clever Active Air Management System (AAMS, which redirected air up and over the open cockpit) and adds 44 pounds but does not hinder performance. George Floyd’s Family to Hold Houston Concert Marking Death
George Floyd’s family is holding a concert Sunday evening (May 30) in Houston, where he grew up, to mark the anniversary of his death. Floyd’s family will join Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, voting rights advocate Stacey Abrams and others at The Fountain of Praise, a church that held one of his funeral services. The event will also feature performers including gospel singers John P. Kee and Tamela Mann, and rappers JaiCei and Trae Tha Truth. Floyd, who was Black, died on May 25, 2020, after a white Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinned down Floyd’s neck with his knee for several minutes as Floyd pleaded for air. Smashing Pumpkins Announce Live in Japan, 1992 LP
Smashing Pumpkins’ debut album Gish turned 30 this week, and to celebrate the band announced its first archival release: Live in Japan, 1992. The limited edition live album will be released as a double LP on purple swirl, 180g vinyl. “Audio is from a board tape and is not available anywhere else,” the band wrote on Instagram. The setlist is from their show at Kawasaki Japan’s Club Citta in Feb. 1992 and includes banter and extended songs. The LP will only be available for 24 hours via Madame ZuZu’s website (Billy Corgan’s tea shop). The standard runs $70 and a recorded signed by Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain is available for $170. Toyota hasn’t sold a car wearing a Crown badge in the U.S. for decades, and certainly never the current-generation luxurious Crown sedan. Could that be changing? A trademark application was recently filed on Toyota’s behalf with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the Crown name for “automobiles and structural parts thereof.” While historically the Crown name was applied to a sedan (and its coupe or wagon variants, if applicable), recently the name has been migrating to other vehicles coming out of the FAW Toyota joint venture in China as a sub-brand, like the Chinese-market version of the Highlander—the FAW Toyota Crown Kluger—and a version of the Alphard van called the Crown Vellfire.
