In addition to string arrangements from composer Daniel Hart, each new version includes additional vocals from a guest collaborator. After sharing the Jay Som-featuring “In Your Eyes (Reflection)” last month, Anjimile is teasing the EP one more time with “1978 (Reunion)” featuring Lomelda. While the Giver Taker original makes use of melodically plucked guitar strings, Hart utilizes a pastoral sway of violins to dance around the harmonies from Lomelda and backing vocali...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-04T15:02:03+00:00“>May 4, 2021 | 11:02am ET Red Hot Chili Peppers are ready to part ways with their song catalog, but they’re not just going to give it away, give it away, give it away now. As Variety notes, the California rockers have reached a deal with Hipgnosis Songs that is said to be worth upwards of $140 million. Founded in 1983, the Chili Peppers have been a force in alternative music for over three decades, with the bulk of the songwriting coming from singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and on-again off-again guitarist John Frusciante, who, as of 2019, is officially on-again. It’s unclear if the deal has actually been finalized, but when it...

Last night, he shared that Conan will air its final episode on June 24th. “We are winding down our TBS show,” O’Brien said while opening the show on Monday. “The plan is to re-emerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with I think what will be my fourth iteration of the program. Imagine a cooking show with puppets, and you’ll have the wrong idea.” The final weeks of the show will include clips of O’Brien’s favorite moments over the past 11 years and a lineup of special guests, culminating in an hour-long finale. After expressing his gratitude for the...
“Day” followed the first single from Carey’s 1995 album Daydream, “Fantasy,” which ruled the Hot 100 for eight weeks starting that September. As “Baby” added a second total week on top, Carey ran up a run of 26 weeks at No. 1 with songs from Daydream, still the record for an album by a woman. In 2018, Drake set the current mark among all artists, with three leaders from Scorpion dominating for a combined 29 weeks. “Baby” also became Carey’s 11th Hot 100 No. 1, tying her at the time with Whitney Houston and Madonna for the most among women. When “Honey,” from 1997’s Butterfly, soared in atop the chart dated Sept. 13, 1997, Carey claimed the mark among women all to herself, which she’s yet to relinquish. She ...

NOFX singer Fat Mike is learning that words matter, as the band dropped out of this year’s Las Vegas’ Punk Rock Bowling festival due to fallout from an offensive quip he made onstage in 2018 that referenced the 2017 Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival. Joking around with guitarist Eric Martin during the show, Fat Mike said of the victims, “At least they were country fans.” The Descendents will replace NOFX as headliners. The band apologized within a few days, saying, “What we said in Vegas was shitty and insensitive and we are all embarrassed by our remarks. So we decided we will all get together to discuss and write an in depth, sincere, and honest apology because that’s what the people we offended and hurt deserve.” Later, in 2019, they released a song called “Fish ...
After being canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governors Ball is back with a brand new lineup and venue for 2021. If you were looking forward to spending Sept. 24-26 (which seems to be the official weekend of music festivals coming back) on Randall’s Island, there’s some bad news for you. This year’s festivities (which feature headliners of Billie Eilish, A$AP Rocky, and Post Malone) have been moved to Citi Field in Queens. Dozens of other notable names are on the lineup include Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, Portugal. The Man, Freddie Gibbs & the Alchemist, Ellie Goulding, Young Thug, and Duck Sauce. It’ll also provide a “new experience” modeled after The Meadows Music and Arts Festival, which apparently allows stages to be closer together to cram a giant fes...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-03T15:56:48+00:00“>May 3, 2021 | 11:56am ET The Flaming Lips have announced dates for a massive world tour that spans 2021 and 2022, and unlike their last couple of shows, the band will be the only ones in personal bubbles. As pioneers in human hamster ball technology, the Lips were better positioned than most rockers to weather the pandemic. The group’s recent bubble concert series created a novel live experience while prioritizing audience safety, but now that COVID-19 vaccines are widely available — at least in North America and Europe — normal touring is set to return. The Flaming Lips already had a pair of August 2021 dates on the calendar. Now, they’ve added a hefty sl...

Other ensembles include the Kansas City Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and Colorado Symphony. The trek kicks off on October 13th at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and will include the 62-year-old singer’s first-ever performances in Kansas City and St. Louis. <span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-03T17:45:00+00:00“>May 3, 2021 | 1:45pm ET The Weeknd is not satisfied with the Recording Academy’s decision to eliminate almost all secret committees responsible for nominating artists for the Grammy Awards. Despite calling for that very change in March, the artist born Abel Tesfaye is doubling down on his Grammy critiques, telling Variety that the rule changes are an “admission of corruption.” Tesfaye’s crusade against the Recording Academy actually began last year, when he was shut out of all Grammy categories despite releasing one of the most critically-lauded, commercially-successful albums of 2020 in After Hours. His rhetoric escalated in March when he announ...
