Today, the duo is back to share one more single ahead of that release date. It’s called “Going Down South” and it sees the band paying tribute to the late great R.L. Burnside. Stream it below. “Going Down South” is a bonafide blues rock classic, and it’s long been in rotation at The Black Keys’ live shows. Here, it gets a faithful studio recording that sees the band paying their respects to the person whose footsteps they unabashedly walk in, particularly by teaming up with some of Burnside’s old collaborators. They can be se...

The Recording Academy announced Friday (April 30) that it would eliminate its “secret” nomination-review Grammy committees — but The Weeknd, who was famously shut out of all 2021 nominations, isn’t satisfied. “The trust has been broken for so long between the Grammy organization and artists that it would be unwise to raise a victory flag,” he told Variety. The Weeknd’s hit After Hours and singles were absent from the nominees and as a result, in November 2020, he committed to withholding his music from award consideration, and he reaffirmed that commitment, despite the recent statement from Grammy chief Harvey Mason Jr. The Weeknd says, “I remain uninterested in being a part of the Grammys, especially with their own admission of corruption for all these ...
As Billboard reported in March, rank-and-file Grammy voters determine the final nominees in just 12 of 84 categories. In 59 categories, however, nominations review committees had the final say in determining the nominees. (The final nominations in the remaining 13 categories are determined by so-called “craft committees.”) The decision to end the committees paves the way for rank-and-file Grammy voters to have final say. In a statement to Variety, The Weeknd expanded on his break with the academy, describing the decision as a move forward, but not a solution. “The trust has been broken for so long between the Grammy organization and artists that it would be unwise to raise a victory flag,” he told the magazine, again saying he would not offer his music up for the awards...
Ahead of these two latest clips, BTS shared a 60-minute video featuring an animated pat of butter melting against a yellow background. The video, which was released April 26, has already racked up nearly 15 million views. Big Hit had revealed on April 28 that ahead of the arrival of “Butter,” the group would be teasing the song with concept clips and photos until the tune’s May 21st arrival. The stars described “Butter” in an earlier press release as “a dance pop track brimming with the smooth yet charismatic charm of BTS.” The song is their second English-language tune. Their first was 2020’s “Dynamite,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100. On Thursday (April 29), the Billboard Music Awards announced that BTS is a finalist in four...
The Black Keys have shared their second offering off Delta Kream, and it’s one of Dan Auerbach’s favorite tracks on the album. The duo put their own spin on one of R.L. Burnside’s best-known songs, 1969’s “Going Down South.” “That was one of R.L. Burnside’s hits!” Auerbach said in a statement. “We strayed a little from the original on our version with the falsetto and percussion, but we liked how it sounded in that moment. It’s become one of my favorites on the album.” Like the video for the album’s lead single “Crawling Kingsnake,” “Going Down South” was filmed at Jimmy Duck Holmes’ Blue Front Café, which is the oldest active juke joint in America. It also highlights other northern Mississippi blues landmarks like Junior Kimbrough’s hometown of Blues Alley in Holly Springs and&n...

Beloved singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams had a stroke shortly before Thanksgiving 2020. She confirmed the news in an interview with Rolling Stone. However, Williams’ husband/manager Tom Overby affirms that Williams should recover “100 percent.” Williams, who has plans to play gigs this summer, says, “The main thing is I can still sing. I’m singing my ass off, so that hasn’t been affected. Can’t keep me down for too long.” She said that on Nov. 17, getting ready to take a shower, she began to have trouble keeping her balance and became unable to walk. “An ambulance came and got me and we told them not to put the big siren on. We didn’t want to alarm the neighbors or anything. But they put the siren on,” Williams said. Williams was rushed to Nashville’s Vanderbilt Medical Center,...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Dark Man X inspired a legion of Hip-Hop fans and rappers. Among the aforementioned is Lil Wayne, who took time from his performance at Trillerfest on Saturday, May 1 to pay tribute to the late rap star. Weezy took time to reflect on touring with Cash Money, whose roster was so deep it meant they could only really go on the road with another record label, which happened to be Ruff Ryders Records. “When I was a younger kid, we used to be on tour a lot, right. Like six months a year,” said Wayne from the stage. “We used to go tour with another record label. We used to have so many artists we didn’t need to have no opening acts ’cause we just needed another record label, and it was just us and them. So back then we went on this tour calle...
