Sharon Van Etten released a cover of Daniel Johnston’s “Some Things Last A Long Time,” which was recorded for 2020’s Feels Good Man, a documentary about the creator of the internet meme Pepe the Frog. Last year she released an original song, “Let Go,” that was featured in the film. Van Etten’s version of “Some Things Last a Long Time” takes the melancholy song and gives it an edge. With a deep synth sound trailing throughout the song that swallows her powerful vocals as the chorus rises and falls, it sounds as if it should play as the credits roll on a thrilling coming-of-age film. Listen to her cover of “Some Things Last A Long Time” below. [embedded content] Van Etten’s work has been covered by many in the past year. Fiona Apple covered “Love More,” Courtney Barnett partnered w...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-30T04:00:32+00:00“>April 30, 2021 | 12:00am ET Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has joined forces with the Russian activist art-rock collective Pussy Riot for the new song “Weather Strike”. The two politically-minded acts came together with a mutual admiration for one another, with Morello singing Pussy Riot’s praises in a press release: “Pussy Riot is one of the most radical and important activist musical groups of all time. Their fearless blending of art and confrontation is a constant inspiration and it’s an honor to combine forces on this powerful, revolutionary track ‘Weather Strike’.” Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova commented, “Both for Tom and me, politics h...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-30T04:00:59+00:00“>April 30, 2021 | 12:00am ET Lionsgate is going for a full fresh start with the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw. That means a jump in time, an unexpected new cast (Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson), and a complete shift in sound from metal to hip-hop. 21 Savage has been brought on to executive produce the film’s soundtrack, including contributing a new theme song called “Spiral”. Saw fans will no doubt recognize the beat on the track: It’s the horror franchise’s classic theme “Hello Zepp” by composer Charlie Clouser. 21 Savage puts his own dangerous edge on the song, giving it some razor-slick production as he drops bars like, “I’ma let ‘еm spin like a spi...
The Volkswagen ID4 wants to be an everyday SUV for everyday drivers first, and an electric vehicle second. One thing the ID4 doesn’t have currently that most of its SUV competitors do is all-wheel drive. This changes with the sporty ID4 GTX variant—at least in Europe. While VW has no plans to bring the GTX name to the United States, its latest ID4 trim is said to preview the upcoming U.S.-spec ID4 AWD, which we think will—sadly—ditch some of the GTX’s sporty styling details. See all 21 photos The ID4 you can buy right now relies on a lone 201-hp motor that powers the rear wheels and afford an EPA-rated driving range of 250 miles—a figure we were able to meet or slightly exceed in normal driving during our own testing. For now, however, we Yanks receive nothing like the GTX trea...
Every so often, Aston Martin likes to honor its fantastic Le Mans-winning 1950s DBR1 racer—something that we enthusiastically endorse. The 2021 Aston Martin V12 Speedster is the latest canvas for such deserving DBR1 hero-worship, itself a limited-run of very special V-12-powered cars. The DBR1 specification will be optional for any or all buyers within the ’21 Speedster’s 88-unit run. See all 24 photos The carbon-fiber-bodied Speedster is pretty neat even without the DBR1 fixings. For something without a windshield (and, for that matter, no fancy airflow management tech like the McLaren Elva), it has a lot of firepower. The 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 under its sinister hood pumps out 700 hp and can propel the Aston to 198 mph. Oh, this experience starts at $950,000. Those are se...
Another one! DJ Khaled is embracing his name to the fullest extent on his latest LP. He dropped his 12th album Khaled Khaled on Friday (April 30) via We the Best Music, Epic and Roc Nation. His real name, Khaled Khaled, translates from Arabic to “immortal.” “I always wanted to make an album called Khaled Khaled,” the famed record producer told Billboard in an interview. It was an idea that geminated long before he released his first LP in 2006, Listennn… the Album. “But I knew it had to come at a certain time. I figured I had to get past 10 albums. … But now, it’s time for the new chapter, the evolving of Khaled Khaled.” You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett are together again in their new “Even When/The Best Part” duet from the second season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Disney released their song Friday (April 30), two weeks before the second season of the Disney+ series premieres on May 14. “Even When/The Best Part” will appear in the “Valentine’s Day” episode, which spotlights Nini (Rodrigo) and Ricky (Bassett) struggling to physically spend the holiday together, after Ricky takes a bus to Denver to surprise Nini with the new love song he wrote for her titled “Even When” — only for Nini to surprise Ricky outside his (old) house in Salt Lake City and sing her own romantic ballad “The Best Part.” The two char...
Scaled And Icy is the followup to 2018’s Trench, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The new album features the previously-released “Shy Away,” which crowned Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in just its third week, a speedy run the likes of which we haven’t seen in a decade. Scaled And Icy is scheduled to drop May 21 via Fueled By Ramen, and was written and largely produced by Joseph in isolation at his home due to the pandemic over the past year, with Dun engineering the drum tracks from across the country. The album is the product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 – “anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and doubt,” according to a release announcing the project.
