Swizz Beatz Reaching Out To Kanye West For DMX’s Memorial Service

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Ever since his divorce from Kim Kardashian became public, Kanye West has been keeping a very low profile and moving in the shadows, but would he come out of hiding to pay homage to DMX? Page Six is reporting that Swizz Beatz is hoping that to be the case as he’s reaching out to the “Jesus Walks” rapper to gauge his interest in performing at a memorial service for the dearly departed, Dark Man X. While it seems like a strange request being that X and Ye don’t really have a history of a working relationship, the two men were men of God (X seemingly much more than Kanye), and DMX even delivered a prayer at one of Kanye’s Sunday Services back in 2019. The moment was captured and shared by Ye’s then wife, Kim Kardashian. “I wouldn’t call i...

Stacey Abrams Has Been Nominated For A Nobel Peace Prize

Stacey Abrams has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. As spotted on Reuters the Democratic Party politician has been recommended for the prestigious honor. Her work specifically with voting rights in her home state of Georgia has garnered the nod. In 2020 she fought vigorously against local legislation that in essence disproportionately limited access to voting to Black voters because they tend to live in larger counties and they tend to live in higher population communities. Her work resulted in flipping Georgia into a Blue state. Lars Haltbrekken, a Socialist Party member of Norway’s parliament, likened her commitme...

Rick Rubin Remembers The Toxicity Lyric That Could Have Ended System Of A Down

System Of A Down’s 2001 album Toxicity was home to the song “Needles” and the somewhat controversial lyric “Pull the tapeworm out of your ass.” Two decades later, Toxicity producer and music legend Rick Rubin remembers the epic fight that this caused. Reminiscing on his Broken Record podcast with System of A Down frontman Serj Tankian, they say that it was merely the pronoun used in the tapeworm lyric that caused the band to go nuts. “Originally, the chorus was ‘Pull the tapeworm out of my ass.’ Daron [Malakian] and Shavo [Odadjian] didn’t like ‘my ass,’” Tankian tells Rubin. Tankian argues that using “my” was supposed to be philosophical like the negativity was being extracted from him. However, that was a bit too vulnerable for his fellow bandmates. “An...

Yola Announces New Album, Shares ‘Diamond Studded Shoes’: Listen

“The video is in part inspired by the Truman Show and is about being trapped in a false construct,” Yola said in a release. “It is supposedly perfect, but you’re trapped in a life that wasn’t meant for you. I wanted to convey the feeling that everything you know to be true is not quite working the way it’s supposed to. The island at the end is a paradigm of mental conditioning, we are all trapped on an island of our own thinking, until we change it.”  The song taps into the civil unrest many have been feeling over the past year. Yola asks listeners “to unite and turn our focus to those with a stranglehold on humanity” instead of falling prey to “the false divides created to distract us from those few who are in charge of the majority of the world’s wealth and...
