System Of A Down’s 2001 album Toxicity was home to the song “Needles” and the somewhat controversial lyric “Pull the tapeworm out of your ass.” Two decades later, Toxicity producer and music legend Rick Rubin remembers the epic fight that this caused. Reminiscing on his Broken Record podcast with System of A Down frontman Serj Tankian, they say that it was merely the pronoun used in the tapeworm lyric that caused the band to go nuts. “Originally, the chorus was ‘Pull the tapeworm out of my ass.’ Daron [Malakian] and Shavo [Odadjian] didn’t like ‘my ass,’” Tankian tells Rubin. Tankian argues that using “my” was supposed to be philosophical like the negativity was being extracted from him. However, that was a bit too vulnerable for his fellow bandmates. “An...

Today, Black Fly returns to explain why he’s “No Fool”. Black Fly has always been enigmatic, both in his music and his story. The Vermont bedroom electronic artist first entered the scene in 2017 with his pulsing single “Sign 2”, with the promise of a full-length on the horizon. And then… nothing. It wasn’t until earlier this year that he resurfaced with the tracks “Kingdom” and “Sadsap”, bringing listeners back into his cinematic world of synths and gothic rhythms. Cyrus captioned the clip “…where are we going @thekidlaroi? BTW I think they want us to drop the remix. The second sneak at Miley’s upcoming remix of LAROI’s 2020 single “Without You” comes after Tuesday’s 20-second clip that blended the original over footage of Miley making faces as headlines about her dating life scrolled in the background. “Miley Cyrus Romance Retrospective: All the Men and Women She’s Dated,” read one, “What Really Ended Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas’ Relationship,” screamed another. All the while, Miley, looking satisfied and confident, gazes into the camera as the Kid sings, “And I can’t take it back, so in the past is where we’ll leave it, huh,” before Miley ...
“The video is in part inspired by the Truman Show and is about being trapped in a false construct,” Yola said in a release. “It is supposedly perfect, but you’re trapped in a life that wasn’t meant for you. I wanted to convey the feeling that everything you know to be true is not quite working the way it’s supposed to. The island at the end is a paradigm of mental conditioning, we are all trapped on an island of our own thinking, until we change it.” The song taps into the civil unrest many have been feeling over the past year. Yola asks listeners “to unite and turn our focus to those with a stranglehold on humanity” instead of falling prey to “the false divides created to distract us from those few who are in charge of the majority of the world’s wealth and...
