Iconic music producer, podcaster, and DJ Annie Mac is officially hanging up her headphones after announcing the end of her BBC Radio 1 residency. Since joining BBC Radio 1 back in 2002 as a broadcast assistant, she was eventually given her own show in 2004 before rising to become one of the iconic national radio station’s most prominent voices. “It’s all about time really. I need more time to see my kids in the evening now they are both in school,” wrote Mac about why she decided it was time to leave. “I would like more time to write fiction and to create podcasts. I also love the idea of leaving the party (and make no mistake working at Radio 1 does feel like a party) with a huge smile on my face, when I’m still having the most ...

New reports indicate that both Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke and The Crown star Olivia Colman are in final talks to join the limited event series (via Variety and The Hollywood Reporter). Unsurprisingly, neither actress’ role is being revealed — after all, it is a secret invasion. The pair will be joining Samuel L. <span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-20T20:22:15+00:00“>April 20, 2021 | 4:22pm ET Jim Steinman, who wrote and produced hits for Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, and Bonnie Tyler, died on Monday in Connecticut. He was 73. The legendary songwriter and producer is best known for his work on Meat Loaf’s 1977 smash debut Bat Out of Hell and its 1993 sequel Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. However, the New York native also helmed titanic hits such as Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, Barry Manilow’s “Read ‘Em and Weep”, the Sisters of Mercy’s “This Corrosion”, Celine Dion’s “It’s Coming Back to Me Now”, and many others. Steinman was born in New York City in 1947...
It seems like just yesterday that Ted Nugent went on Facebook Live to spread misinformation about COVID-19, doubt its severity, and ask the tough question of “Why were there no shutdowns for COVID-1 through -18?” But in reality, that was almost two weeks ago. In a beautifully predictable twist of fate that even professional wrestling writers would consider too obvious, the guitar-wielding NRA spokesman took to the very same platform yesterday (April 19) to let his followers know that he recently contracted the virus — and it sounds like it got him pretty damn bad. After beginning his latest monologue by explaining that “everybody told [him that he] should not announce” his COVID positivity, the Nuge said he “had flu symptoms for the last 10 days” and “thought [he] was dying — jus...
Jim Steinman, the songwriter behind Meat Loaf’s biggest hits and Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has died at the age of 73. The Connecticut chief medical examiner office confirmed Steinman’s death, but said there was no cause of death available, as it didn’t take jurisdiction in the matter. Born on Nov. 1, 1947 in New York City and growing up on Long Island, Steinman’s style had a flair for the dramatic (to put it mildly). This is perhaps best exemplified in his work with Meat Loaf. The two teamed up for 1977’s Bat Out of Hell and 1993’s Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell. The albums, which defined Meat Loaf’s career, included bombastic songs like “Paradise by the Dashboard,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” “Bat Out of Hell” and “I Would Do Anything for Love ...
A few years ago, the idea of an electric pickup truck seemed … unimaginable. Trucks are meant to haul, tow, and play in remote places where electric car chargers are hardly found. Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing a wave of electric trucks that will hit the market soon from names familiar (Ford with its F-150 and the return of the Hummer) and new (Tesla with its Cybertruck and Rivian with the R1T). Toyota is the latest big-name automaker to confirm plans to bring an electric truck to market, whether it’s in the form of a Tundra, Tacoma or both. Using the stage at the Shanghai auto show, Toyota said it will bring hybrid and battery-electric powertrains to its truck lineup. It stopped short of indicating which specific nameplates will have an electric variant, and thi...
Until recently, the Lexus ES sedan has been classically Toyota: Pretty boring, incredibly competent and refined, and … essentially a plus-size Camry wearing a luxury badge. This changed with the arrival of the current-generation ES, which featured sleek, attractive styling and perhaps one of the best integrations of the luxury brand’s current design language (and in-your-face hourglass-shaped grille design). As a bonus, the ES grew more athletic and engaging, without sacrificing the quiet comfort it’s always been known for. Fortunately, Lexus has done nothing to the 2022 ES sedan to change any of that. For its mid-cycle refresh (the update automakers typically gift a vehicle halfway through its life cycle), the Lexus ES sees an expected smattering of minor styling ch...

Yasuke is based on the true story of the first Black samurai to serve a warlord in Japan, and stars the voice of Lakieth Stanfield (Atlanta, Knives Out, Judas and the Black Messiah). Flying Lotus did more than write the music; the artist born Steven Ellison consulted on the story with creator LeSean Thomas. “[LeSean] and I talked about being outsi...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-20T16:33:57+00:00“>April 20, 2021 | 12:33pm ET Pom Pom Squad, the Brooklyn quartet led by Mia Berrin, have announced their debut album Death of a Cheerleader. To herald the June 25th release, the band has shared the new single “Head Cheerleader”, which features backup vocals from Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara. Berrin formed Pom Pom Squad in 2015 with Shelby Keller (drums), Mari Alé Figeman (bass), and Alex Mercuri (guitar). After dropping the buzzy EPs Hate It Here (2018) and Ow (2019), the Squad took their grunge-inflected indie rock to City Slang Records. Death of a Cheerleader spans 14 tracks and was co-produced by Berrin alongside Sarah Tudzin of Illum...
