Benzino & His Daughter Coi Leray Make Amends On Social Media

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Prince Williams / Getty Benzino surely knows how to find himself in unnecessary drama doesn’t he? At least this time he acknowledged his fault and apologized, though. Recently the Made Men rapper from Boston got into a small social media back-and-forth with his own daughter, Coi Leray, but luckily the two are burying the hatchet and moving forward accordingly. Bossip is reporting that the two had been exchanging some “pleasantries” on Twitter with Leray having said she was “embarrassed” to be Benzino’s seed just a month ago. Naturally, that didn’t sit well with the “Boottee” rapper who called the comment the most “disrespectful” thing he’s ever heard. The man has been in all kinds of war of words with other rappers so that’s saying something. But it seems...

Thursday Announce ‘Signals V3 – Full Devolución’ Anniversary Livestream

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Full Collapse and 10th anniversary of No Devolución, Thursday has announced the third rendition of their ticketed livestreams. The appropriately titled Signals V3 – Full Devolución figures to follow in the traditions of Signals V1 and V2 (which collectively featured appearances from members of My Chemical Romance, Against Me!, Coheed and Cambria, Texas is the Reason, and Quicksand) by including a bevy of special guests to go along with the performances. “We’re doing all of No Devolución and Full Collapse, and I think it’s weird how symmetrical those records are in some ways,” frontman Geoff Rickly told SPIN. “I think of them as these weird mirror images of each other. It’s one super young and innocent one, and one wher...

Morrissey Is Furious About His Portrayal in Smiths-Inspired Simpsons Episode

Last night, The Simpsons aired an episode inspired by the Smiths. As you can imagine, it took some turns and Morrissey wasn’t too pleased. In a post on his official Facebook page, the singer unleashed harsh criticisms at The Simpsons, following the beloved show’s portrayal of him. “Poking fun at subjects is one thing. But when a show stoops so low to use harshly hateful tactics like showing the Morrissey character with his belly hanging out of his shirt (when he has never looked like that at any point in his career) makes you wonder who the real hurtful, racist group is here,” he wrote. The post continued, saying the show has taken a “turn for the worst” before praising Saturday Night Live and lambasting The Simpsons for trying to “capitalize on cheap con...

The Revivalists’ David Shaw Releases Video for ‘Got Me Feeling Good’ Ahead of Next Month’s Album Release

David Shaw’s self-titled solo debut album is due out May 7 (via Yokoko Records/C3 Records), but the Revivalists’ frontman isn’t done dropping new content in the buildup to it. Today, he gave SPIN a first look for the video for “Got Me Feeling Good,” the single he put out alongside the album’s release date announcement last month. While the anthemic uplifting track has already caught on with fans around the world, the video for “Got Me Feeling Good” is all much closer to home. Not only was it filmed in his hometown of New Orleans, but it also features a hobby that’s near and dear to the singer, roller skating. Check out the video below. The Mountain Goats Share ‘Mobile’ Single Ahead of New Dark in Here LP

Prolific indie quartet Mountain Goats have shared the song “Mobile” — described by frontman John Darnielle as the “weathered, gnarlier cousin to ‘Getting Into Knives’” — from their upcoming Dark in Here album, which is out June 25 on Merge Records. Dark in Here was recorded March 9-14, 2020, the week between Getting Into Knives and Songs for Pierre Chuvin at FAME Studios, the Alabama recording studio that’s hosted Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Gregg Allman and many more in the past. “Mobile” features Muscle Shoals players Spooner Oldham (Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt) on electric piano and Will McFarlane (Bonnie Raitt, Tammy Wynette) on lead guitar. Mountain Goats bassist Peter Hughes spoke about that experience and his interpretation of Darnielle’s lyrics in a s...

Sunday’s episode titled “Panic on the Streets of Springfield” saw Lisa become obsessed with a British singer named Quilloughby, whose likeness and persona was inspired by Morrissey. Lisa discovers Quilloughby and his band The Snuffs on a streaming service, and immediately becomes enthralled with “their brand of literate, sardonic music” and his “militant vegetarianism.” Quilloughby, who was voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, soon appears in Lisa’s life in imaginary form — albeit as his 1980s self. However, after Lisa has an opportuni...

2021 ACM Awards Demonstrate What an Inclusive Future In Country Music Could Look Like

The organic nature of the performances was one of the show’s major strengths. Instead of force-fed inclusion, the Academy’s pairings allowed the art to speak for itself, proving that country music should be a place where anyone — regardless of who they are or what they look like — can feel like they belong. This year’s nomination pool saw a record four Black artists up for awards (Jimmie Allen, Kane Brown, Mickey Guyton, and John Legend for a Carrie Underwood collaboration), a milestone ACM CEO Damon Whiteside called “a big step in the right direction.” The broadcast featured a handful of Black artists across genres performing alongside white country superstars, bringing inclusivity and their shared love of music to the forefront. Guyton, who co-hosted the festivities with Keith Urban, per...
