Indoor Concerts and Other Private Gatherings Can Return in California Starting April 15th

As it starts to get warmer and warmer outside, we’re constantly reminded of the sense of freedom that the spring and summer months bring. California, once considered the nation’s “coronavirus epicenter,” is now the state with the lowest positivity rate in the country. As case continue to decline, the California Department of Public Health announced that starting April 15th, indoor theaters and concerts—among other private gatherings—will be allowed. Although the news is exciting, these processes will most likely continue to move at a slow pace as venues navigate the mercurial nature of reopening. If your county is in the most restrictive purple tier, indoor gatherings will remain dormant. This phase of reopening will only apply to counties in the red, oran...

Pendulum Share Preview of Brand New Single Dropping Next Week

Pendulum thankfully won’t be waiting another decade to release music. When COVID-19 knocked the live music community out cold with a swift jab to the chin, many artists hit the studio and dropped a flurry of new songs. Producers released new music at a breakneck pace, but it was the gobsmacking September 2020 return of Pendulum that took the electronic scene by storm. The legendary drum & bass outfit released their first new songs in a decade, dropping two new singles, “Driver” and “Nothing for Free,” each of which featured the signature pillars of Pendulum’s iconic sound. Now, the group has teased another new track, which is set to release next week on April 15th. Pendulum shared a short clip on social media, offering a glimpse into the un...

Death Cab for Cutie Frontman Ben Gibbard Wants to Work With ODESZA

Have you ever wondered what a collaboration between ODESZA and Death Cab for Cutie would sound like? Neither have we. Iconic Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard recently appeared on Audacy’s New Arrivals with Bryce Segall to chat about his livestreaming ventures during the global lockdown period and his recent philanthropical endeavors, among other topics. It was his comments on a potential collaboration with ODESZA, however, that sent ripples through the electronic music community. ODESZA and Gibbard have crossed paths in the Seattle area many times, including at a co-headlining concert at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium in May 2019. It turns out that Gibbard, who called the duo “great, wonderful dudes” and “really talented,” has been kicking the tires on a po...

Success of Mustang and Bronco Sub-Brands Means More Spin-Offs to Come

Ford CEO Jim Farley was a champion of the idea of creating sub-brands around iconic Blue Oval nameplates, starting with Mustang and Bronco. With those models’ early success seeing their names spread beyond their core original Mustang and Bronco models, Farley thinks there is room to expand the concept to more nameplates. “We have so much opportunity,” Farley tells MotorTrend in an interview. “We have such a plethora of ideas and passion brands in the company. So many in Europe and in the U.S. We run deep. So, I don’t think we’re going to stop there.” The sub-brand idea goes back to the naming of Ford’s first performance all-electric, battery-powered SUV, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The move rankled some purists who felt that all the Mu...

First Out: New Music From Brockhampton, Years & Years, Kat Cunning & More

Brockhampton, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine Brockhampton have made a career off of their energy. Through robust raps and an often fever-pitch sense of musical adrenaline, the hip-hop collective has often managed to bust doors down through sheer force of will. So when fans first listen to the group’s latest album, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine, they will be immediately struck by a difference in tone. The frenetic energy of their previous work is still present on tracks like the chaotic “Buzzcut,” with veteran Danny Brown (one among a cavalcade of excellent featured artists throughout) stepping in for a rage-fueled verse. But with tracks like “The Light,” “Dear Lord” and “What’s the Occasion?,” the band deal...

First Country: New Music From Luke Bryan, Lanco, Priscilla Block and More

Lanco, “First Beer” Lanco lead singer Brandon Lancaster looks back fondly on his first beer, and the memories it evokes, as he recalls the buzz the situation brought on as much as the intoxication of the company he was keeping as he sat on a blanket with a crush. The mid-tempo, wistful track is sure to get the cell phone flashlights waving in concert. Priscilla Block, “Wish You Were The Whiskey” TikTok sensation Block continues to show her vocal and songwriting strength on this smoky tale about being drunk “right where you left me at the bottom of a bottle,” as she hopes the liquor will put her out of her misery in this mid-tempo track, but it only increases her misery. Kat & Alex, “Heartbreak Tour” and “You and the Radio” The 2020 American Idol alums, who competed individually on...

First Spin: The Week’s Best New Dance Tracks From Griz & Elohim, Pleasure State, Rain Man & More

Pleasure State — the trio of Lee Foss, MK and Anabel Englund — wasn’t just a supergroup: it was a mindset, a portal to blurry summer nights spent swaying beneath the palm trees. But like many things, this state of pleasure was fleeting. After delivering suave hits like “Electricity”and “Ghost in the System,” the group went dormant in 2014 as its members continued their solo careers, sometimes with one another (in fact Englund and MK’s single “Underwater” is currently No. 1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay) but not altogether — until now. For the 100th release on Lee Foss’s Repopulate Mars label, Pleasure State has reunited on their Break Away EP, which takes us right back to the early 2010s’ golden days. On the title track, the production is deep but bumpin’ wi...

Nike & MSCHF Settle “Satan Shoes” Lawsuit

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: MSCHF / MSCHF A week and change after Nike hit MSCHF with a lawsuit over their customized “Satan Shoes” Air Max 97’s, Yahoo is reporting that the two sides have settled the legal squabble with MSCHF having to come out of pocket in the matter. According to the report Nike and MSCHF have squashed the lawsuit but MSCHF has to buyback all the sneakers they’ve already sold via refunds. With the sneakers themselves already reselling for more than $2,000, we doubt MSCHF will be finding any of their pairs in the possession of their original buyers. For those who don’t want to send them back, Nike’s covering their bases if anyone’s unhappy with their purchase. The statement also read, “If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Louis/WENN.com / WENN Last year Busta Rhymes had one of the year’s toughest albums in Extinction Level Event 2 and while some overlooked the Hip-Hop OG’s latest offering, most heads are still bumping the LP right now. Keeping the album buzzing, Busta comes through with some new visuals to the Mariah Carey assisted “Where I Belong” where Busta and Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) team up to take down samurai ops. The visual also serves as a cool continuation to their original hit collaboration, “I Know What You Want.” Mariah looking amazing by the way. Just sayin.’ Keeping the vibe in Brooklyn, Papoose finds himself in an Egyptian environment where he drops bars amongst hieroglyphs or kings and pharaohs of the past for his clip to “Sticks & St...
