(Record Scratch!) You’re Probably Wondering How Lexus Got a Record Player in Here

Shout “enhance!” a few times at your computer like you’re in some kind of CSI-type show, or just peer more closely, and you might notice something odd in this 2021 Lexus IS‘ glove box. An arm, a needle, a vinyl record … yup, that’s a turntable. In the glovebox. In 2021. And if you aren’t a turntablist, or a vinyl enthusiast, you might not recall that records skip. See all 7 photos Before even the eight-track player, a few companies experimented with in-car record players, and it was a goofy extravagance that never really worked all that well. Because, well, records skip, even with specialized spring-isolated enclosures—especially when installed by indifferent dealers back in the day. Tenants Who Turned New York Apartment Into Illicit, Mask-Less Nightclub Sued by Landlord

The owners of the New York City apartment complex at 81 Hudson St. have filed a lawsuit against two tenants who allegedly turned their apartment into a nightclub. Occupants Kurt David and Jean Elbaum-David are being accused of regularly hosting disruptive, crowded parties and charging attendees a $100 cover. According to neighbors, the parties have been regular over the last few weeks, and it is not unheard of for the events to draw an attendance of over 100 people. The situation finally came to a head last weekend after one attendee, a 17-year-old boy, took a tumble down a flight of stairs in the building. Visibly intoxicated, he was taken to New York Presbyterian Downtown Hospital. Police raided the event, where they found dozens lined up trying to get inside. Kurt David w...

Zoinks! 2022 Nissan Z Car’s Pricing, Specs, and Details Spill Forth

But thanks to a massive leak—more like a water main break—on enthusiast forum 400ZClub, we now have a ton of new unofficially released information to pour over. According to poster Houston.z35, the next Nissan Z car won’t be called the 400Z. The name is just “Nissan Z.” This, despite the fact that there will be a 400-hp version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 VR30DDTT engine under the hood, and most of us anticipated a numerical upgrade from the current 370Z nomenclature to something 400-ish. As we suspected earlier, the next Z’s underpinnings will be largely carryover from the current 370Z. That means the chassis, hard points, and cutlines will all be the same, but the bodywork is obviously quite different and eye-catching. There will be two transmissions availab...

First Spin: The Week’s Best New Dance Tracks From Jungle, Zhu, Elkka, Floating Points & More

Welcome (back) to the Jungle. The British duo returned earlier this week with the announcement of their third album, Loving in Stereo, heading our way this summer. In the meantime, they’ve shared its lead single, “Keep Moving.” Taking cues from second-LP songs like “Heavy California” and “Beat 54 (It’s All Good Now),” “Keep Moving” is a funky, feel-good disco-soul sermon with its almost gospel-choir-like chorus and stirring strings. While a year of lockdown has left many of us feeling down, the song serves as a divine source of encouragement to power through the sludge. One lyric in particular — “I could live with it, I could live with it, oh!” — repeats near the end, creating a glorious burst of catharsis and the record’s rawest moment, as if giving oneself permission to ackno...

Promises was composed by Sam Shepherd (AKA Floating Points) and sees the music brought to life via Sanders’ cel...

Beartooth Announce New Album Below, Share “The Past Is Dead”: Stream

Midwest rockers Beartooth have announced their fourth studio album, Below, which arrives June 25th. They’ve also unveiled the pyro-heavy video for the crushing single “The Past Is Dead”. The song opens with a soaring vocal build-up and before launching into an anthemic breakdown. The track’s melodies and upbeat metalcore riffing are paired with dark lyrical concepts, as reflected by the album title Below. In press release, singer Caleb Shomo questioned whether the new material was “too dark.” He said he drew upon experiences from the past year when writing the songs. “Below is by far my favorite album I’ve made to date,” Shomo stated. “It covers the dark side of dealing with mental strain during the last year. I gave it all I had — musically and lyrically. Is it too dark? Possibly, but it ...
