Fucked Up have released “Year of the Horse – Act Two”, the second track of the Toronto punk band’s latest EP celebrating the Chinese Zodiac. Stream it via Bandcamp below. The 26-minute epic is written like a play. It contains seven different scenes starring a cast of more than a dozen characters, which are detailed in the liner notes the band made available on WeTransfer. The song mixes disparate sounds from straightforward punk rock to spaghetti-western to doom metal, and includes guest vocals from singers Tuka Mohammed, Eidolon, and Maegan Brooks Mills. “Act Two” appears on the four-track EP, Year of the Horse. Fucked Up is dedicating the project to Texas hardcore icons Wade Allison of Iron Age and Riley Gale of Power Trip, both of whom were friends with the group prior to their deaths. ...
Magic mushrooms send SZA on a trip to wonderland for her self-directed music video for “Good Days,” which premiered Friday (March 5). The Alice in Wonderland-inspired field of larger-than-life mushrooms surround the singer for a visual that encapsulates the enchanting single about good days to look forward to. SZA also takes her moves to the library like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, where she can be found gracefully twirling around a pole while reading a book. And the R&B singer gave her fans something to look forward to at the tail-end of the video, which teases her upcoming song “Shirt,” which she acknowledged was making the rounds on TikTok. The new minute-long snippet plays while SZA pole dances in the middle of a gas station. Previously, she t...
One of the people who took issue with his statement was Hayley Williams, who has fronted the band Paramore since their first album in 2005 — not too long after Maroon 5’s breakthrough. “adam levine thinks paramore broke up :(,” Williams tweeted. To be fair, some fans thought the same, given that Williams has released two solo albums in the last two years, including last month’s Flowers for Vases/Descansos. But she reassured worried fans on New Year’s Day, replying to a fan’s message of “Omg I thought paramore was breaking up,” tweeting, “lol y’all been worried about that too long. aint happening.” A band that predates Maroon 5 had something to say about Levine’s comment too, with Garbage tweeting in response:&nbs...
Kelly Clarkson embraced an old-school classic by covering Otis Redding‘s “These Arms of Mine” for Friday’s (March 5) Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show. A single spotlight illuminated Clarkson’s silhouette as she walked up to the mic on the blacked-out stage before yellow and purple lights lit up the talk show host. “These arms of mine/ They are burning/ Burning from wanting you/ These arms of mine/ They are wanting/ Wanting to hold you,” she crooned the chorus with her own soulful spin. Arsenal have this evening revealed a late update on the fitness of Emile Smith Rowe, ahead of their showdown with Burnley. Mikel Arteta’s men are set to return to action tomorrow afternoon, in a Premier League meeting with the Clarets. The Gunners will of course head into the Turf Moor clash with their tails up, on the back of a morale boosting pair of wins over the last couple of weeks. First, a last-gasp Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang header saw Arsenal get the better of Benfica, to book their spot in the Last-16 of the Europa League. And this was followed last weekend by a hugely impressive 3-1 downing of Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The news, as a whole, proved of a positive nature, with only two players – including 3rd-choice goalkeeper Alex Runarsson – struggling as things st...
Turner Classic Movies has launched a new film series called Reframed: Classic Films In The Rearview Mirror. Taking place every Thursday night during the month of March, the series addresses racism, sexism, and bigotry present in old movies through a modern lens. That means a bunch of iconic flicks — Psycho, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Tarzan, you name it — are being reassessed with nuance and care, and likely prompting a wave of “cancel culture!” fearmongering in the process. Since its formation, TCM has committed itself to preserving the most iconic movies from the beginning of film history and onwards, and most people associate it with the black-and-white flicks their grandparents used to watch. But as our country works towards equality onscreen and off, that means everyone m...
Hard rockers Dirty Honey have announced that their self-titled debut album will arrive April 23rd. The L.A. band has also shared the music video for the opening track and lead single, “California Dreamin’”. Not to be confused with the ’60s pop hit of the same name by The Mamas and the Papas, Dirty Honey’s take on the Golden State is a darker portrayal. Vocalist and lyricist Marc LaBelle said the track and its video explain that the Cali dream is just that: a dream. It doesn’t always come true. “Lots of people come out to California, chasing a dream, and sometimes, people just don’t make it,” LaBelle said in a press release. “California isn’t always the ‘land of milk and honey,’ dreams don’t always come true here, and that’s the perspective this song and video take. The video is a dream thr...
In our Track by Track feature, artists guide listeners through each track on their latest release. Here, Regional Justice Center singer Ian Shelton pulls back the curtain on the band’s new album Crime and Punishment. Hardcore act Regional Justice Center have unleashed their new album, Crime and Punishment, out now via Closed Casket Activities. The LP clocks in at a blistering 13 minutes but leaves an impression that lasts far longer. The album shares its name with the legendary novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky and tackles similarly weighty themes of postmodern existence. As RJC vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ian Shelton explains in the remarks below, many real-life events inspired the passionate outbursts of anger and disillusionment heard throughout Crime and Punishment. Shelton previously ...
Last year, the never-ending bleakness of the coronavirus pandemic prompted The Streets to release a mixtape with the ominous title of None of Us Are Getting Out of This Life Alive. Now that things are actually looking up in the UK, the project’s mastermind Mike Skinner is ready to celebrate with a positive mood and a new single called “Who’s Got The Bag (21st June)”. Stream it below. “It’s been too long since I’ve been behind some decks, or on a stage, in a tour bus sleeping in a bunk,” said Skinner in a statement. “The moment we can do it we want to be the rave and we will. It’s also about hospitality, events and nightclubs not being able to take anymore. It’s a protest song, it’s saying, don’t change the date on us again! FIRST IN THE ROOM. 21 June.” It’s clear Skinner concocted “Who’s G...
