Girl in Red, “Serotonin” Put a fast-rising talent like Girl in Red in the studio with one of the hottest producers of the moment, Finneas, and you get a song like “Serotonin.” Marie Ulven, the titular Girl who wears a lot of Red, has never sounded quite as good as she does on this upbeat, blown-out, bass-thumping anthem about clinical depression — yes, you read that correctly. Finneas adds his knack for off-the-wall production choices, including a dreamy, bedroom-pop guitar buildup that exists only to be thrown away for a chorus featuring floor-shaking beats and speaker-melting bass. Ulven’s incisive songwriting adds the final cherry on top, as she viscerally describes her dark thoughts, before concluding “From the corners of my mind/ I’m terrified...

For her first full-length project since 2018’s Be the Cowboy, Mitski wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the graphic novel This Is Where We Fall. It’s out May 5th, and as a taste of things to come, the 30-year-old songwriter has shared the new song “The Baddy Man”. Written by Chris Miskiewicz and illustrated by Vincent Kings, This Is Where We Fall combines science fiction and Western tropes to tell a tale of death and the afterlife. It will be available in both softcover and hardcover editions, though the hardcover has the added bonus of coming with Mitski’s soundtrack on cassette. Besides that, 1,000 copies of a deluxe edition will also be released, and that iteration includes her score on vinyl. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Mitski said, “It was exciting to make a...

Despite the new Taycan Cross Turismo’s extra ride height, tough body cladding, mud guards, and generally off-road-ready looks, this isn’t some Dakar-ready Porsche EV. As cool as that would be, Porsche insists that the 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo is merely a more well-rounded version of the slinky Taycan sedan. The electric wagon also is better suited—even if only on paper, or in appearance—for those who live in temperamental climates or fancy themselves adventurous types. After all, the normal Taycan is available with all-wheel drive, meaning it could probably handle a snowy road just as well. To that point, even though it may look different from (and some might say better than) the standard Taycan, Porsche says almost everything from the wagon’s beltline down (in...
Kings of Leon have unveiled their first album in five years, When You See Yourself. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify. The 11-song effort is the Nashville-bred band’s first full-length since 2016’s WALLS. They previewed the album with three singles — “The Bandit”, “100,000 People”, and “Echoing” — but the most compelling aspect of the rollout process had nothing to do with the sound of the music (which is quite good). Earlier this week, the group announced that they were going to be the first band to ever release an entire album in NFT form — that’s “non-fungible token” for those who aren’t aware. NFT’s are essentially a cryptocurrency for art: images, videos, music, and even items like concert tickets that are sold on an online marketplace like Bitcoin. In add...
The Lemonheads’ Evan Dando performed a short set in a Cape Cod Walgreens after the location found his lost wallet. After Dando misplaced his wallet on February 27th, he did what any Gen X rock icon with a devoted local following would do: he pleaded for help on Twitter. “I dropped my wallet with my drivers license and two debit cards in it,” he wrote. “I was walking from the mariner hotel to the palmer lot…. please have a look if you are on them streets.” At the height of his desperation, he even resorted to the caps-lock bittpm, typing, “HOTEL MAIN STREET FALMOUTH TO THE PALMER LOT.” Remarkably, it helped. “I work at Walgreens in Falmouth and your wallet was just turned in to us,” local hero Mike Ghelfi replied. “I’ll keep it in the office safe until you can get it.” Editors’ Picks ...
