Legendary electronic duo Daft Punk has officially split up after 28 years. They broke the news to fans with a heartbreaking excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma. Fittingly titled “Epilogue,” the 8-minute video signals the end of Daft Punk and echoes the melancholia of the conclusion of the most pioneering act in dance music history. The video shows the duo behind Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, walking through a desert until Bangalter eventually stops walking altogether. He then sheds his Daft Punk jacket and turns around to reveal a power box. Conflicted with switching on the self-destruct sequence, de Homem-Christo finally does and watches Bangalter walk away. After 60 short seconds, the robot explodes in...
While the idea of an up-and-coming artist holding a day job is nothing new, it’s not every day you hear about a doctor who moonlights as a DJ. Enter DJ Bodalia, a British doctor who just so happens to mix on the side. He’s combined his passion for providing care to the public and his love of dance music in a new initiative he calls “NHSessions.” On Instagram, he shared a video explaining his story to BBC News. When speaking with The Guardian, DJ Bodalia explained what it was like working in a hospital during the early days of the pandemic. He would then go on to share how he wanted to start his livestream program in an effort to raise spirits during the tough times. Warish, the punk trio led by Riley Hawk, are set to release the new album Next to Pay on April 30th. The band is premiering the LP’s latest single, “Seeing Red”, right here at Heavy Consequence. Riley, a pro skater and son of the legendary Tony Hawk, formed Warish in 2018, but the band has undergone a lineup makeover since their first album, 2019’s Down in Flames. In addition to Riley on vocals and guitar, the trio now features bassist Alex Bassaj and drummer Justin de la Vega (although original drummer Nick “Broose” McDonnell performs on roughly half the tracks on the new album). The band’s heavy sound ranges from Misfits-like horror punk to Bleach-era Nirvana to Black Sabbath doom, with “Seeing Red” falling more into the horror punk category. Riley delivers spooky vocals over the hard-dr...
A few days after celebrating the 30th anniversary of Green Mind, Dinosaur Jr. are back with a new single, “I Ran Away.” The song comes from their forthcoming Sweep It Into Space album. The new LP arrives on April 23 on Jagjaguwar and is the lineup’s first new collection since 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. The album was co-produced by Kurt Vile, who also played the lead 12-string on “I Ran Away.” Sessions for what would become Sweep It Into Space began in late 2019, with the album originally slated for release in mid-2020. The pandemic, of course, disrupted the recording process. Instead, singer/guitarist J Mascis “ended up just mimicking a few things he’d done. I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that dueling twin-lead ...
Last week Jim Jones released his latest Harry Fraud-produced project, The Fraud Department, to much praise and respect as the OG Harlemnite is showing that he’s only getting better in the booth with every passing year in the game. We getting a new Dip Set album anytime soon or nah? Speaking of rap OG’s, Sheek Louch is still out here being one of the hardest rappers in the game and for his black-and-white clip to “Spirit of Griselda” links up with Benny The Butcher and let some thick young women twerk, cut up product and count stacks of paper. We ever getting a Griselda and Lox album? We want answers today! Che...
