A new Eddie Van Halen coffee-table photo book by renowned rock photographer Ross Halfin is arriving in June via Rufus Publications. The 356-page book, titled Edward Van Halen, will retrace the career of the late guitar legend through the lens of one of rock’s most storied photogs. Halfin’s photo credit can be spotted next to some of the most iconic images in the genre’s history, having also worked with Black Sabbath, Metallica, and more over the years. Like with many of the great band’s of their era, Van Halen were often the subject of Halfin’s visual documentation. His shots of the group are the definitive images of their career, and the pictures of Eddie perfectly captured the virtuoso’s kinetic guitar skills on film. According to the publisher, the book includes classic and unseen photo...
Courtney Love isn’t just the lead singer of Hole; she’s a Golden Globe-nominated actress. Or, at least she was, as the multi-hyphenate has largely stepped back from mainstream film roles since the early aughts. In a new Instagram post, she revealed why, and it’s unfortunately not terribly surprising: #MeToo. “One day I might talk about it. I love acting,” Love captioned an image of herself attending the Golden Globes. “I stopped being capable of it after a bunch of #metoos. No one would believe me, and it wouldn’t stop. So I left, and it left. And I’m good with it. Maybe, in my next life I’ll be stronger & able to endure it .. I tip my hat to those who can.” Love was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress Golden Globe for her role in Milos Forman’s 1996 classic The People vs....
DijahSB has announced the new album Head Above the Waters. It’s out in April, and the rising rapper is offering a preview with the single “By Myself” featuring Harrison. Based in Toronto, DijahSB first made waves with the deceptively-titled EP 2020 the Album. Unsurprisingly for an artist known for “Frontin’ Like Pharrell”, they rap over toe-tapping percussion accented with funk and disco vibes. The new eight-track effort features contributions from Ray HMND, Chris Castello, and Harrison, and it boasts one of the grooviest tracks of 2021 in “Throw That Back”. Anyone who’s been paying attention knows DijahSB can play lord of the dance, but with “By Myself”, the MC is offering a change of pace. Produced by Harrison, “By Myself” slows things down with glittering keyboards and a funky bass line...
Once again, The Simpsons predicted the future decades before it happened. As several Twitter users have pointed out, Ted Cruz’s recent vacation getaway to Mexico while Texas suffered a catastrophic emergency echoed the scene in a 1993 episode of The Simpsons where Mayor Quimby essentially does the exact same thing. In the clip, which is taken from the episode “Marge in Chains” that originally aired back on May 6th, 1993, Mayor Quimby can be seen addressing his constituents during a press conference on TV. “People of Springfield, because of the epidemic, I have canceled my vacation to the Bahamas. I shall not leave the city,” he says, decked out in a suit and tie in front of his office backdrop. But then, a guy playing the steel drum walks in front of the camera, revealing that Quimby ...
Disney+ is bringing back a few familiar faces in March. With WandaVision wrapping up, Marvel Studios will pivot to their next highly anticipated spinoff series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. As the title suggests, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan return as — you guessed it — The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Right behind those Marvel heroes is everyone’s favorite hockey coach Gordon Bombay. Yes, Emilio Estevez will return to the ice with The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which should give Mouse House their own Cobra Kai if there’s enough Zamboni power. Beyond those two blockbusters, National Geographic will unveil new documentary Own the Room, MCU fans in need of a refresher can tune into Marvel Studios: Legends, and for $30 extra bucks will get you Raya and the Last Dragon. Elsewhere...
An alternate spelling suggests an invasion of alternative facts in South Park’s just-announced one-hour episode, the “South ParQ Vaccination Special”. It airs Wednesday, March 10th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. This isn’t the first time the cartoon denizens have wrestled with COVID-19. Last September, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone kicked off Season 24 with “The Pandemic Special”, in which Cartman flourished in isolation while Randy began to suspect he had personally created the novel coronavirus. Now it’s time for the townspeople to protect themselves, but there’s a catch. According to the official description, “The citizens of South ParQ are clamoring for the COVID-19 vaccine. A hilarious new militant group tries to stop the boys from getting their teacher vaccinated.” Militant grou...
