Nowadays, when he and the Foo Fighters aren’t busy performing for Democratic presidents (the band played their hit “Times Like These” during the Biden-Harris inauguration special “Celebrating America” on Jan. 20) they’re preparing to release their latest album, Medicine at Midnight, in the midst of a global pandemic. Grohl revealed in the interview that the band was initially told releasing their 10th studio album while the coronavirus has much of the world shut down wasn’t the greatest idea. But an unexpected experience convinced him otherwise — his drum-off with 10-year-old Nandi Bushell. “When the videos went viral, I realized that the only purpose of the band is to bring joy. That’s it. Right?” Grohl shared. “The b...
The Tainy-produced track, which translates to “Dance With Me,” arrived two weeks after “De Una Vez,” a rhythmic pop song about healing and self-worth. It marked the singer’s first Spanish single in more than a decade. Both songs will appear on Gomez’s all-Spanish EP, Revelación, which is scheduled for release on March 12. Placing second on the past week’s tally with 9% of the vote was the “other” category, followed by Weezer’s latest album, OK Human, in third with almost 5% of the vote. “OK Human was made at a time when humans-playing-instruments was a thing of the past,” the rock band tweeted in mid-January when announcing its 14th album. “All we could do is look back on ancient times when humans really mattered and when th...
The Foo Fighters recently performed “Times Like These” during Joe Biden’s Celebrating America inauguration concert and played during Barack Obama’s presidency, but in the ’80s Dave Grohl was attending an event in Washington D.C. for a much different reason. During a recent interview with the Independent, he recalled getting “beaten by police and rednecks” during a “Rock Against Reagan” concert that featured bands like Bad Brains and Dead Kennedys. The rally took place “right on the mall, in front of the Lincoln Memorial, a quarter of a mile from where I would one day be invited to play at Obama’s first big ‘party’ on the South Lawn,” Grohl remembered. “They happened each Fourth of July. Hundreds of thousands of people from the suburbs would come to watch the national firework dis...
Although most of the world is preoccupied with gaming the stock market, Monstercat has broken into the lucrative realm of non-fungible tokens or NFT. For those who haven’t caught the wave, NFTs are virtual collectibles similar to items found in video games. Oftentimes digital art or audio, the collectibles are powered by blockchain technology and are exclusive to the purchaser. For their digital debut, Monstercat released two separate drops on the NFT marketplace, Nifty Gateway. Dubbed, the ORIGINS Collection and Constellations Pack, the new collectables were designed by the digital artist, Giant Swan, and soundtracked by Varien. Before they hit the market, on Twitter, the label shared a preview of the two drops, showcasing some of the sights and sounds inside. A ...
San Holo is up to something BIG. As stated by the man himself, coming this week is the “biggest announcement in San Holo history.” Across his social media pages, the bitbird founder shared teaser photos and videos preparing fans for the news. While they don’t reveal much, his chosen verbiage has led to many counting down the seconds until the news is shared. At the time of writing, he has not provided any specific details on what’s in store. This, of course, has led to massive speculation from fans. Based on the footage of the Dutch artist playing a medley of instruments, the most common theory is that a new album or recorded set is on the way. Although this seems likely, it cannot be confirmed at this time. San Holo is set to make the biggest a...
Neil Young has been sorting through his extensive catalog over the past year, sharing archival compilations of unreleased tracks from the ’70s and albums that never saw the light of day. The prolific songwriter plans to drop a collection of ’80s material called Road of Plenty sometime this year, and most recently announced another “lost” album, Johnny’s Island. The album was recorded in 1982 at Commercial Recorders in Honolulu, Hawaii with the same team that made Trans. “‘Johnny’s Island’ a complete album now being prepared for release at NYA, includes a majority of unreleased tracks including ‘Big Pearl,’ ‘Island In The Sun,’ and ‘Love Hotel,’ plus others you may have heard before,” Young wrote on his website. “it’s a beautiful record coming to you soon.” As&...

[embedded content] [embedded content] Though he’s appeared in a number of films, MGK didn’t appear in any skits. We chatted with MGK about his “unforgettable” pop-punk debut for our November cover story. “How shitty would it have been if I went in there and they were like, ‘It’s cool,’” he said in reference to playing new music for his label, Interscope. “I mean, a lot of things are cool. My breakfast was cool. I don’t want ‘cool’ I want unforgettable.” He certainly seemed to accomplish his mission: Tickets t...

After weeks of rumors surrounding a Daft Punk cameo at The Weeknd‘s Super Bowl LV halftime show, a leaked tracklist seems to have confirmed an appearance by the legendary duo. According to a report by GQ México, who shared a tweet that contains a purported tracklist for The Weeknd’s halftime performance, Daft Punk could make an appearance alongside Ariana Grande and Kendrick Lamar. It’s important to note that The Weeknd recently announced a new compilation called The Highlights, which dons an identical tracklist. However, the timing of the album’s February 5th release—two days before the Super Bowl—looks like a prescient signal of his plans to perform the record in full at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. At the time of this article’s p...
SOPHIE, “Bipp” SOPHIE’s breakthrough single resembled nothing else in contemporary pop upon its June 2013 release, but its roots were clearly in pop: all of its blips, whirs, distorted beats and tempo shifts don’t work without a vocal hook, “I can make you feel better,” that’s somehow both metallic and warm. “Bipp,” which earned rave reviews and year-end list placements in 2013, was alien and catchy as hell, challenging the DNA of pop while embracing its soul; in this way, it would serve as a North Star for the rest of SOPHIE’s career. – Jason Lipshutz SOPHIE, “Lemonade” This deceptively simple 2014 single — which would eventually land on SOPHIE’S 2015 PRODUCT compilation – is, on its surface, a sonic wind-up toy about craving the titular citrus-based beverage...

For those that didn’t already know, Eilish answered a question about the release date of her upcoming documentary, The World’s a Little Blurry: It’ll be available on Feb. 26. And when a fan asked “how many tracks approx on upcoming album,” Eilish implied there would be 16. Eilish also shared an update on her dogs and a peek at her favorite restaurant.
