First Spin: The Week’s Best New Dance Tracks From Alok, Mikey Lion, TroyBoi & More

Brazilian phenom Alok drops “Kids On Whizz,” his rework of 2020’s “Charlie” by the UK duo (and brothers) Everyone You Know. Rife with “Can’t Feel My Face”-level euphemisms about a certain white substance historically popular in clubland, the already alluring track goes even deeper on this edit. Alok kicks up the BPM and adds a few slight layers to the already heady tropically-laden deep house production, while leaving the standout hook — which the producer says initially drew him to the song — in tact. “When we released ‘Charlie’ we never in a million years thought someone with as much weight and clout as Alok would reach out to rework the track,” the Everyone You Know bros gush in a statement. “It’s quite s...

As spotted on Hip Hop N More T.I. and Tiny Harris are having a very rough week online. On Tuesday, January 26 Sabrina Peterson claimed the “Swagger Like Us” rapper had once held a gun to her head years back. According to her she was “beating up his female assistant that was treating @majorgirl like a slave.” Soon after Tip’s wife came through to refute the allegations. While Tiny’s receipts of them all being cordial just two years ago seemed to quell all the speculation, Peterson came back with more receipts; a lot of them. Johnson & Johnson’s Single-Dose COVID-19 Vaccine Is 66% Effective Against The Virus

Source: SOPA Images / Getty A new weapon in the fight against COVID-19 is on the way. Also, unlike Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna’s vaccine, which takes a genetic sample of the virus and inserts it into an oily bubble, Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine uses a gene from a snippe...

Chris Tucker Says He Was Paid $10K For ‘Friday,’ Casts Doubt On Smokey’s Return

Source: Laurent KOFFEL / Getty Everyone knows that Ice Cube’s comedy classic, Friday, is responsible for helping launch the career of Chris Tucker into another stratosphere, and though Tucker gave a million dollar performance as “Smokey,” his actual payday for the role was barely enough to pay the rent for a few months in LA. During an interview with Shannon Sharpe for Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay, Tucker revealed that he was paid peanuts and almonds for his breakout role in the 90’s cannabis cult classic. Gleefully reminiscing on his days filming the movie, Tucker explained that not only was the movie shot in less than a month, but that he only got 10 stacks for his iconic performance. “It’s one of those things — it was just a small movie. We filmed it in 20 days. I got about $10K for ...

System of a Down’s John Dolmayan Says He’s Been ‘Blacklisted’ Due to Right-Wing Views, Rips Black Lives Matter

While his System of a Down bandmates have been out promoting their new music and discussing the future of the group, drummer John Dolmayan continues to spew right-wing rhetoric that seems to stray from the political band’s typical views. As a guest on the podcast Cancelled with Rob Rosen and Desma Simon (which invites people who have been “canceled” by society for one reason or another to tell their side of the story), Dolmayan doubled down on his controversial views after being a somewhat surprising voice of reason in the fallout of the insurrection at the Capitol earlier this month. According to Dolmayan, he and his various non-System creative projects have been “blacklisted” due to his political views. “I’ve already been a victim of this, and it’s no different and no bett...

It wasn’t just an ordinary evening stroll with her dog. Under a “wolf moon,” Hayley Williams snuck up to superfan Carly Butler’s Nashville home and slipped the unreleased song “My Limb” into her mailbox — and gave Butler permission to “leak” it. The gobsmacked fan of the Paramore singer tweeted, “Did Hayley Williams drive to your house and drop off a candle and a CD with her new song on it or are you having a normal night.” Williams chronicled the delivery on Instagram Stories video, joking that “Murder Postmates” was her new service. “Okay, we’re going to drop off a Sanctuary candle and a burnt copy of one of the songs to Carly in Nashville right now. I hope she doesn’t think I’m coming to murder her if she looks out her window at just the right time. Or I hope she does, I don’t know...

Where the Money Resides: Rita Ora Offered Restaurant $7K To Break Covid Rules For 30th B-Day Party

Source: KIKA/WENN.com / WENN Rita Ora was dragged for her over-capacity birthday party in London last November, but now it appears that the singer not only knew she was breaking the rules from the beginning but allegedly paid to do so. According to The U.K. Sun, the unauthorized gathering was actually planned by Ora and her camp, who called ahead to the restaurant, Casa Cruz, and reportedly offered the London posh spot $7,000 to break the country’s Covid social distancing rules. Police claim a rep for Ora called restaurant Casa Cruz and offered the boss, Scottie Bhattarai, £5,000, or $6,829, to provide “drinks and nibbles” for a party. Despite most of the restaurant’s staff being furloughed due to the pandemic, Bhattarai agreed, stating that he wanted to “facilitate” before admitting he wa...
