The bar for DJ streams and performances has always been high, but since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, these heights have become quite literal. We’ve seen artists take to the skies via hot air balloons or atop massive skyscrapers, but this next daring feat may take the top the prize for the wildest set ever. Enter the Mobile Music Krew, a pair of DJs who are truly pushing the boundaries with a goal to mix the hottest tracks from the most epic locations. One of their latest adventures saw member Your Dad trek his portable deck up the entire Angels Landing hike in Zion National Park, Utah. If hiking the trail, which is rated one of the most dangerous hikes in the United States, wasn’t impressive enough, did we mention he was mixing the entire time? Throu...

“Nurture” will arrive on April 23. Spring is often considered a hopeful time, and Porter Robinson is looking to make the most of the season. On Wednesday (Jan. 27), the producer announced that his much-anticipated sophomore album, Nurture, will drop April 23 via Mom + Pop. The album is Robinson’s first under his own name in seven years. The news comes alongside Nurture‘s fourth single, “Look at the Sky.” The shimmering, propulsive and ultimately joyful track was written during a moment of personal crisis for the North Carolina-based producer, who has dealt with crippling anxiety since he blew up upon the release of his 2014 hit debut album Worlds, and whose personal challenges multiplied when his brother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer...
Directed by Erika Cohn, Belly of the Beast chronicles the near-decade-long fight to shed light on the forced sterilization of women’s prison inmates in California. The film highlights this reproductive injustice with personal accounts from formerly incarcerated individuals. The early lyric, “The world can decide if a caged bird flies,” is a reference to Maya Angelou’s seminal autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, in which the poet describes the racism and trauma that have impacted her life. The song culminates with Blige singing the line, “It ain’t over till it’s over,” accompanied by images of protestors, Dillon and her legal team in a courtroom, with shackles falling to the ground. The song takes the perspective of the survivors of this underreported i...
In December, Death Cab For Cutie released The Georgia EP, serving up covers of bands including R.E.M., Cat Power and TLC, and last night (Jan. 26), they turned in a tender socially-distanced live version of a song from that record – TLC’s “Waterfalls” — on Jimmy Kimmel Live! A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, many bands are now performing together in one room, but in a flashback to 2020, frontman Ben Gibbard and the band played remotely from their own homes and studios. TLC’s 1995 hit “Waterfalls,” has been covered live and on albums by Eve 6, Bette Midler, Meshell Ndegeocello and even parodied by “Weird Al” Yankovic as “Phony Calls.” Check out the performance below. Oakland, California-based duo tUnE-yArDs have shared a new song and animated video for “hold yourself,” off their just-announced fifth studio album, sketchy. The 11-track record, which includes last year’s single “nowhere, man,” arrives March 26 on 4AD. “This song is about feeling really betrayed, by my parents’ generation, and at the same time, really seeing how we are betraying the future,” the band’s Merrill Garbus explains in a statement. The new music was initially inspired by the Beastie Boys Book and Questlove’s Creative Quest and created with Merrill on drums and Nate Brennan on bass. “I started remembering that people come to us to be entertained, to move, to feel joy. And together, I think, we can wake up,” Garbus stated. Check out “Hold Yourself” below. [emb...
