Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Congratulations are in order to Cardi B for being named Billboard’s 2020 Woman of the Year. It’s no surprise that she celebrated her prestigious title with fans on social media, dedicating the smoke to all of her critics and haters for doubting her throughout her career. In a video posted on Instagram, the Bronx native delivered the sassy response bare-faced while standing in the doorway of her expansive closet peeking in the background. “Morning y’all, it’s your girl Cardi B, and yes, I am Woman of the Year. For you cry babies like, ‘What? She only got one song.’ Yeah, I got that song, b*tch,” she gloated in a silk robe with a matching scarf covering her bayang. “You know, the one that sold the most, the one tha...
Source: Dear Silas / Dear Silas Y’all ready for some good ol’ 90’s pop culture references? Well, Dear Silas is ready to give you all you can handle with his latest visuals to “Belafonté.” It’s been a minute since we’ve last heard from the Jacksonville, Mississippi artist but today (Nov. 20) he returns with some brand new work in “Belafonté” which showcases his vocal range along with faster than average rap flow. “I walked into the studio one night and my engineer Shell Enns randomly let me hear this track he had been working on. I loved it and laid down a verse immediately!,” Silas tells Hip-Hop Wired. “I wanted to do a song with no strings attached. Something that was 100% me. As far as the video, I wrote the entire treatme...
Diplo’s attorney has denied the allegations. A judge has granted a temporary restraining order to a Los Angeles woman following her accusations of grooming, emotional abuse, and intimidation—among other allegations—against Diplo. The woman’s attorney, Lisa Bloom, requested the restraining order after the plaintiff accused the famed DJ and music producer of disseminating a sexually explicit photo of her as an act of “revenge porn” that was “designed to humiliate her and to scare other women out of coming forward.” According to a report published by NBC News, the order requires Diplo to remove any explicit pictures previously posted and refrain from posting more unless he’s given written permission. Diplo’s attorney Bry...
At least someone gets to go to raves, albeit in a darkened room and a tub filled with flashing water toys. Grimes and Elon Musk gave their newborn baby one of the world’s most interesting names after welcoming little X Æ A-Xii into the world back in May 2020. After naming the child after some kind of magical potion out of a science fiction novel, it’s not surprising the pop star would have some avant-garde methods on how to raise her six-month-old son. If you look up “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom” in the dictionary, Grimes’ face would appear. Fans got a rare glimpse into the life of X Æ A-Xii earlier this week, when Grimes posted a few videos to her Instagram Stories of her son during bath time. Apparently when your mom is Grimes...
Radiohead has issued a statement regarding the recent hearing of Domenic Cugliari — the engineer responsible for approving the stage that eventually collapsed during a Radiohead concert and killed Scott Johnson, the band’s drum tech, as well as injuring three other people. The concert took place on June 16, 2012 at Toronto’s Downsview Park. As previously reported, the roof of the outdoor stage collapsed an hour before doors would open to a 40,000-person crowd. The Discipline Committee of Professional Engineers of Ontario held a hearing and investigation of Cugliari (the engineer assigned to make sure that the stage was stable) on Nov. 16, in which the now-retired engineer owned up to his faults on that day. However, Radiohead wasn’t entirely accepting of the belated apolo...
Though 2020 has proven to be a whirlwind for Megan Thee Stallion, on Friday (Nov. 20) she placed a bow on her banner year with her debut album, Good News. With two Hot 100 No. 1 records (“Savage and Cardi B’s “WAP”) in tow, the burgeoning superstar looks to maintain her rap supremacy on the 17-track collection. Though Megan experienced her share of controversies this year, including a July shooting incident involving Tory Lanez, she flips her tragedies into poetic gold, as proven on the album’s intro “Shots Fired.” With a fistful of features including Beyonce, Big Sean, SZA, 2 Chainz and more, Megan Thee Stallion does an admirable job in putting together a solid rookie effort. See how Billboard ranked her album tracks below. {“nid”:...
Taking inspiration from influences ranging from anime to Bonobo to Blade Runner to Neil deGrasse Tyson, it makes sense that Lastlings’ debut album, First Contact, is smart, deep, futuristic and a little bit celestial. Written between the brother and sister duo’s home on the Gold Coast of Australia and the Japanese fishing village where their grandparents reside, the album’s dozen tracks have a sophisticated allure, maintaining their delicacy while often growing thick with layers of synth and percussion. It’s altogether live electronic music ripe for sweaty dancefloors and packed tents, many of which the duo filled during sets at big deal festivals — including Coachella and Splendour In the Grass. Named one of Billboard Dance’s artists to watch last Novem...
Mass media conglomerate Grupo Globo is exploring a sale of Som Livre, Brazil’s largest domestic record label. Globo says the decision to try to sell the label doesn’t signal any concerns about the label’s performance in the world’s 10th-largest music market, but rather resulted from a strategic review of the assets in its portfolio. “Som Livre is an extremely solid and profitable business,” Jorge Nóbrega, Globo CEO, says in a statement. “Music remains very important in Globo’s portfolio, but we believe it is a good time to get out of the traditional label business and focus on the D2C (direct to consumer) strategy.” {“nid”:”9486080″,”type”:”post”,”title”:”Will Investors Have Faith in Believe? As Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon leads Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for an 11th week, the late rapper’s debut studio set becomes the longest-running champ in nearly a decade and posts the third-longest stay at No. 1 for a rap album in the chart’s history. Shoot for the Stars rebounds from No. 2 on the list dated Nov. 21 to capture an 11th frame in charge. The project, released July 3 (four-and-a-half months after Pop Smoke’s death on Feb. 20), debuted at No. 1 in July and has reigned for 11 of its first 19 weeks on the list. Since its arrival, Shoot has yet to fall below No. 3 on the weekly rankings. {“nid”:”9471110″,”type”:”post”,”title”:”Inside The Remarkable Success of Pop Smoke\u2...
Although Tool and Puscifer singer Maynard James Keenan battled with COVID-19 earlier this year, facing lingering symptoms for months, it hasn’t seemed to slow his prolific musical output, which now includes Puscifer’s new video for “Fake Affront.” The song is off the recently digitally released Existential Reckoning album, which was released on Oct. 30, but due to COVID-19 related manufacturing issues, the physical versions arrive on Dec. 11. The video, which premiered on SiriusXM’s Octane website, features performance footage from the band’s Oct. 30 livestream event, “Existential Reckoning: Live at Arcosanti.” A Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive of the 7-inch single features “Apocalyptical” with “Rocket Man” as a b-side. It can be purchased via indie re...
Source: Atlantic / Atlantic Last night while the Hip-Hop world had their eyes fixated on the most tense Verzuz battle ever that was Jeezy Vs. Of the four tracks on the EP, three have guest features with the likes of Lil Durk, 42 Dugg and Vory contributing bars to the quarantine cause that Meek has been working on. As for the video that accompanied the drop, Meek M...
Source: W.Wade/WENN / WENN As Donald Trump resumes to conspiracy theory spewing and does everything within his presidential power to steal the 2020 election, Joe Biden’s victory continues to be proven substantial as the great state of Georgia has confirmed what we already knew, Biden won. After unnecessarily auditing and recounting votes in Georgia to appease Trump and his enabling allies, Deadline is reporting that Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R), announced that the recount is complete and Joseph R. Biden is indeed the winner of the Peach state. Though the recount did award Donald Trump an extra 486 votes, it was not enough to catch Joe Biden’s lead of more than 12,000 and ultimately led to Biden winning by 12,284 votes. The audit showed that the highest erro...
